Hello all,
I have been playing EVE for nearly 5 years now and can honestly say I have never played a better game. Even after all this time, I am still having new and fun experiences that remind me why I log in every day. There is so much to do in this game, and so many people doing each thing, that it can be hard to do something that makes you feel like you have 'lef your mark'.
To most people i guess making your mark would mean doing something that most of EVE would know of, but to me it is something that happened recently that is very small on scale of things, but made me feel like i have left a mark.
I got an eve mail from someone. The mail was a thank you. apparently a couple months previous, this person was running a low-sec annomaly and was scanned out by me and i dropped in on him and proceeded to do what I like doing. Unfortunately for me the target got away that time and I carried on and never gave it a second thought until this mail came through. To me it was just another encounter, but to the target, it was a game changing experience. He explained how that was the first ever 1v1 pvp experience, and it had completely changed how they looked at EVE. A simple encounter has shown someone a side of EVE they had not experienced, they liked it and are now going to be pursuing that side of it.
The reason i consider this as making my mark? This person may just decide pvp is not for him in the end. but if they do stick with it, every time they get a kill, it is a kill that may not have happened had i not given them the taste for it in that one random encounter.
I guess it is like the EVE trailer shows.. one small event can be a chain reaction to who knows what you just never know. and thats why i still play this game.
Have you made your mark?

It's the interaction with other players that really makes playing worthwhile. Yes its an MMO so this should be obvious but really its moments when you realise you have made a profound effect on others that makes me really feel I have achieved something. When I started out my goals were typical.... make billions, join a 0.0 alliance, fly a capital etc... but over the years I've just enjoyed dabbling here and there and (despite my forum behaviour) helping others and offering guidance.
As a solo pvper while I don't expect fair fights myself I always feel good about providing them for anyone that wants them. ~_~

Edited by: Guilliman R on 03/11/2010 11:45:31 The countless researched ammo BPO's I've sold so far. The ammo build from those eventually leak everywhere into New Eden, into deep 0.0 space. Thousands upon thousands of rounds destroy thousands and thousands of ships. Billions upon billions of isk is destroyed. All a result of the research I do in ammo bpo's, the bpo's I sell.
God I love EVE

This sounds remarkably similar to what happened to me three years ago. I had never been in lowsec, was grinding missions in my semi-pimped CNR in Aramachi. Was on verge of quitting game due to boredom, when a stabber warped in and started to take loot.
For some reason the present me cannot fathom, I engaged the stabber, who promptly scrammed me and started engaging. Two of his friends in BS (with what I assume would be RR) landed after my third volley destroyed the stabber. They were unable to do anything.
2 days later I was in low-sec with a group of pvpers. 3 years later I'm with the same group playing a complete different game to back then.
I keep meaning to send the stabber pilot a mail saying thanks. I wonder if I did whether he'd remember...
