Hi, I'm posting this in the PvP place in case there is some difference with ship EHP in PvP. I'll move it to Ships & Modules if that is more appropriate.
Anyway I'm a newb to EVE and a newb to PvP. I was flying around FW the other day with some new friends, but I wasn't in the milita so I had to wait outside the gates since the npcs would aggro me.
I had a Catalyst with a stupid fit (I had good reasons!) I made a damage profile in EFT that was 100% of my lowest (explosive) resists and 10.5k was the reported EHP. The in-game fitting tool displayed 8.7k EHP with my DCU turned on.
So I'm flying around a gate when an Incursus a Merlin and a Thrasher land. They were not part of a milita either and we had seen them earlier. Anyway this time they attack me and I managed to live long enough for my fleetmates to warp out of the plex and warp back to me and kill some of them.
It was lots of fun and I lived a lot longer than I expected. The part that concerned me is my deathmail showed I only took about 5,000 damage before exploding. Is that just a reporting error or is EFT/in-game display incorrect? I would just like to know for the future.
The rules say I can't link a killmail but it shows the same amount of damage taken as in-game. |

If im not mistaken it's a difference in calculations between ingame and EFT. EFT works out your EHP by taking the average resistances out of all 4 resistances, whereas ingame EHP is worked out by the average of highest resistance vs the lowest.
Thats why you get 2 are different answers, end of the day real world EHP is gona depend the current ammunition being used against you at the time, vs what resistances you currently have to counter that damage spread. |

Your lowest resist is not explosive I would bet. Unless you added em resistive rigs or shield mods, you have a almost no em shield resist. If you had no armor plate or trimark rigs, your shield HP is almost the same as your armor HP.
No clue why eft both in and out of game show higher amounts. I find my kestrels take less damage then they should to. Still, i woukd ask in ships and mods as that would be a better forum. This forum is more for the guys that killed you to boast about it. In fact, you basically just walked into the worst biker/redneck/hillbilly/gangster/you-ain't-from-around-here bar singing the barney theme song. Just back away, back away. LOL |

EVE's fitting window uses the lowest resist for each defense level. So for a raw T1 ship, the EHP calculator uses the EM resist for shields and the EXP resist for armor (and any resist for hull since they are 0).
Your actual EHP will be higher, depending on what guns hit you.
EFT uses an average of all four for each defense level. So it will always give a higher number than EVE, but your actual EHP can be higher or lower, depending on damage type being taken. |

Corina's right.
EVE's fitting window EHP display calculates the lowest possible EHP (lowest shield resist*shield HP, lowest armor resist, etc)
The Killmails, I believe, display raw HP damage you took, i.e. what you get when you add up all the damage notifications, so it'll be the same as your raw HP (+amt repped), since your resists apply before you take damage.
EFT's default is a balanced damage profile of equal damage of all types, buy you can also set custom damage profiles (know you're facing Hellcats, load up a Scorch profile). EvE: Everyone vs Everyone

Yeah, Pipa's right - the difference is because killmails show raw damage taken, which is after resists and so has no correlation to EHP. Corina is right about the EFT/ingame EHP differences though. |

Tamiya is right. I have a lover, her name is EVE. I see her every night and all she asks in return is that I have a pilot's license. |

One other thing, Pyfa allows you to set up ammo types so you can see EHP against different types of ammo. |

I am both shocked and disappointed that this thread was handled in the right way. Some of you C&P Supahstars are gettin soft methinks.
To the OP as to stay on topic. This sounds like one of your first runs at PVP, And sounds like you had a ton of fun. Good luck in your further adventures. Lets hope it takes you down the right path. Please do not point out alt-posting, CCP considers that trolling and will take action. |
