I've been doing something wrong and Battleclinic fits arent helpful anymore.
So could you cool Mega pilots share your best Megathron fit for doing Level 4 missions?
I do have Electronics and Engineering up to level 5.

It's a kind of odd question. It's like asking a chef what his best recipies involving concrete are. I mean sure there are people who use concrete, and i'm sure there are some chefs who'd whip up something with conrete in it if they had to but it's just not very rational. Especially not as flour is cheaper and bakes a much more delicious cake, much like the domi is a much better missionboat.
If you insist on sticking to the mega the fit shouldn't be to complex. 7x 425mm railguns, tracking computers and cap rechargers/cap booosters in mid and then a mix of armortank and damage mods in the lows. Use the rigs primarily to patch up what your skills lack, I imagine you might need an ancillercy current router here atleast. You'll probably want 4 sentry drones and 5 lights for the dronebay. Fit an afterburner if you have the option. Parrots, commence!

Edited by: TheKalila on 09/11/2010 01:43:17 Best I could do.. looks good actually, won't beat a Domi but atleast is doable. But you really need to use a cap booster fit, it just won't work anywhere near as well without a cap booster.

P.S. replace a mag stab for another hardner if need be. But it's about 300 tank for Serp, which is enough for most missions.
P.S.S. needs a 3% CPU implant, unavoidable unless you use faction mag stab/hardeners.

T2 Mega fit
Downgrade the above fit to t1 modules, though maybe some meta 4 guns and you will rock lvl 4. I fly Amarr and even on those ships Cap Booster isnt a must. Just fit some cap rechargers here and there and you should be fine. I cant understand why people keep posting t2s are needed for lvl 4s. --- I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place |

T2 Mega fit

Maybe because some of us actually have T2 skills. Why would I use T1 modules and meta 4 guns if they are worse?
Also this is just used as a baseline, you can reduce to fit down to your skills but All V should be used as a point of reference to make comparisons, otherwise making comparisons for other people is impossible since everyone has different skills. Or should I ask for someones API before I help out?
And T1 modules and meta4 guns will not "rock lvl 4". They will instead suck. If you want to fly a non-T2 fit you'd much much much better off with a Domi (well you will be better off anyway). Meta4 guns are acceptable ofcourse and even faction guns if you want more DPS and easier fitting but T1 armor and upgrade modules are just plain stupid, it's not a lot of training and should be your priority to get your tanking and DPS related upgrades to T2.
Finally, if you don't fit a cap booster you are wasting space on much more useful modules. You will have less range, less tracking and less DPS or tank (depending where you make the sacrifice for cap, usually DPS).
The Domi is one of the few BS that can get away with it and the Apoc for example, but most others are vastly inferior to their cap booster fitted counterparts.

Also I have flown an Abaddon, the ship rumoured to have the biggest cap problems, for a long time without a booster and it has worked fine without making sacrifices in either tank or DPS. --- I think violence in games only causes violence in real life if the person in question has an insufficient mental capacity to deal with the real world in the first place |

That makes no sense, why should someone post a fit with all T1 modules when most people have at least some T2 modules or shortly will at least. Also I don't think you know what baseline means. Baseline is a point of reference, you can't use T1 modules and low skills because then you would need to define that as the standard. The best standard as given by EFT, is all at V and using the optimal fit. That way you know what to aim for as well, serving two purposes rather then your fail logic.
He indicated he had fitting skills to V, but not what other skills he had and thats up to him to be more clear. Even if he mentioned guns and armor, there is still no way to know 100% that a fit will work for someone because they would have to mention support skill as well to make a good comparison.
I fly Amarr primarily on my mission running character and did fly the Abaddon for a while. I have experimented with every single possible fitting combination in practise and in EFT. You do have to make sacrifices, in tracking, range, movement speed (yes, AB helps completion times, as opposed to slow boating) and DPS. Especially if you use T2 guns and ammo for maximum DPS, which according to your demeanour you do not.
Edit: Cap booster fits are in the case of most ships superior, if you prefer to use a fit without one, that is your personal preference and has NOTHING to do with what is the optimal fit or most efficient for it's purpose.

What about Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades? Once you decide to use faction hardeners over t2 ones fitting the Mega becomes much easier. Also it begins to shine not before T2 rails and heavy drones or at least as near as much skill. If you want a BS with low skills a Dominix does it much better.
I used something like this:
[Megathron, L4] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Large Armor Repairer II Shadow Serpentis Armor Kinetic Hardener Shadow Serpentis Armor Thermic Hardener Armor Thermic Hardener II Coreli C-Type Magnetic Plating
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II

Large Ancillary Current Router I Large Hybrid Locus Coordinator I Large Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Ogre II x5
Its a rather offensive fit. Not recommended being new to level 4's. Needs AWU (see above) at 5, top energy skills and knowing the missions. When not knowing what you're doing or not having very good drone skills its strongly suggested to have 5 small and 4 heavy drones instead. Hardeners obviously need to get switched according to missions.
With less skills and T1 weaponry a power diagnostic system worked wonders (should remove the need for the grid rig) and helps with capacitor). Then you also need to stay further away you likely want a drone link (making you want the faction hardeners again) and maybe an afterburner to kite.

This is the fit i used for a while, its good if your gunnery skills are much better then your drone skills, which was the case for me at the time. It will finish a mission just as fast as a dominix, although a dominix is much more 'easy mode' (and alot more boring imo)
It is a pretty tight fit though, so you might have to up or downgrade to meta 4 or faction items to make it fit in case of lesser fitting skills.
Oh and this particular fit works even better on a Megathron navy issue
