I've been told that any member with access to the POS can take from BPs from another member's lab slots. Is that true? Are there ways to mitigate this risk and ensure that this doesn't happen.

Edited by: Dasola on 10/11/2010 11:11:07 Only way to limit access is give each member hes own hanger division, but then again corporation cant grow much (only 7 hangers available).
Even if you can protect your bpo/bpc this way somewhat, they can still cancel your jobs, etc.... (lose of materials used) if they can use labs, assembly arrays, etc...
And of course if ceo/real director desides to go roque, nothing is safe. One flip in pos settings and corp members cant access pos shield no more -> cant get close enough to labs, etc... to remove your stuff.
Thats why my indy corp only has my toons in it with highsec pos, no need to all that pain in my head.
Really wish ccp would do something about pos mechanics. But i quess its one of those soon(tm) things since no devs really play this game so they would get irritated bu them.

Could have sworn I answered this just the other day: Basic POS Question (post #8)
So no, your BPO are not at risk if you do remote manufacturing & research.

Just keep in mind that anyone with Factory Manager role can cancel jobs.
Also, I was under the impression that you're not just limited to 7 hangars but if you have 2 office and you assign one person one of the hangar at one of the office and assign his base as one of the office, he shouldn't be able to access the same hangar at the other office right?

You can set access for Headquarters, Based At, and Other (includes POS).
Never tried what you are suggesting, but might be possible if you do not allow access under Other.

you can password protect the pos so noone without password can go inside the forcefield of that pos where you have your labs.

This is very poor security, as passwords do get out. I don't recommend it.

There's couple of issues with this idea:
1. It prevents those who are responsible for fuel the pos not being able to get in to do their job. Leave that task to someone you really trust.
2. It prevent those who needs access to the lab in order to retrieve BPC or drop off material needed for invention, copying or manufacturing.
In addition to what Tau has already mentioned in another thread, anyone who uses the lab or manufacturing arrays requires the role of Factory Manager. That role is probably the biggest problem since factory manager can easily cancel all jobs, resulting in the loss of materials used for invention, copying and manufacturing.
A fair amount of trust is needed. ATM, there isn't really a game mechanism that prevent anyone from doing harm on the industry side for corps.
