Hi, So I'm running above-mentioned setup with working intel driver (direct rendering enabled). I installed using offline installer, got fonts, configured wine to use virtual desktop.
When i try to start i get Tyrannis logo, then black screen + cursor.
Wine error is:
err:winediag:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo The Mesa OpenGL driver is using software rendering, most likely your OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly fixme:d3d_caps:wined3d_guess_card No card selector available for GL vendor 4 and card vendor 0000.
Note that direct rendering works as per glxinfo. Wine version is 1.37
Any solution to this? Is eve supposed to work at all with intel GMA chips? This system should be able to run eve fine (Core2Duo 2.4Ghz, 4GB ram) I'm grateful for any information on this. Thanks in advance.

I can't find anything about that card having support for shader model 2.0, which means that it probably doesn't.
Since that's required for eve, I don't think you'll be able to make it work.
You could try playing around with the information here though.

It actually tells you what the problem is. Usually happens in 64 bit linux when an update fails to link the 32 bit libraries propperly so you might want to check that. Or it just missed the 32bit DRI libraries

Edited by: Inggroth on 21/11/2010 18:24:21 OK installing lib32-libgl (and enabling texture compression with driconf so textures are actually rendered) fixed it.
I can now login, enter game and spin ships in station. When i undock eve freezes with the following in dmesg:
Quote:
Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start 02000000 Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head forced to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start 02000000 Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring initialization failed ctl 0001f001 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start 02000000
This is probably some mesa/dri/kernel issue. Any further info on this would be appreciated, though i'll probably need to ask on intel-gfx mailing list or something...

its indeed a kernel / mesa problem You can either revert to an older kernel e.g. 2.6.32 or downgrade mesa to 7.7.1
Should be fixed in the next kernel update ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pinky: Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?
