Hi I am playing for five days a Gallente character with an Atron and I am doing some fighting to get the hang of it. I loaded a Hornet drone into my cargo hold and launch it, if i meet the pirates. Sometimes it just starts fighting on its own, but most of the time it is idle. Then I give the attack command expecting to attack but nothing happens while I get shot up by the pirates (in a blockade mission). What am I missing. Where do I find a guide to drones? I searched google via the "site:myeve.eve-online.com" function but could not find anything Might somebody point me in the right direction?

You should select the NPCtarget first :). When you have locked the pirate, select it (just click on the image) and then use the 'attack' function.

Well I have locked the Pirate and my two Blasters are happily firing at it. The image has the 'locked and selected' grafic blinking and I choose the 'attack' option of the drone. It stays idle. Does range play a role?

You bet it does! The Scout drone skill helps increase the base range of the drones (20km) incrementally by +5000m per level. This is important to level up if you want to be able to attack from longer ranges. Also, if the target your drones are supposed to attack is too far away, EVE should give you a message that the drone is unable to complete that command.

if your drone is launched before the pirate fires on you, it will attack. If you launch after your attacked it has to be told to attack by right clicking the drones in space area.

Is that really a bug? I just came back from another fight, now with two idle drones while I lost 10K worth of armor But wait. I saw those drones orbiting my ship in a distance of about 2,000 m while I shot at the Pirates from 10,000 m so they did not attack! I clicked the image of the pirate, I right clicked on the drone in the overview 'drone in space' and they stayed idle. This is driving me nuts :(

A bug that had me so engrosed in trying to get the damn thing to attack that I did not notice the fact my Apoc was being spanked. This helped my own stupidity loose an Apoc last night. Not happy.
Question: HOW DOES SOMETHING THIS SIMPLE GET THROUGH QA STAGE?
The only thing the Gallente should host is an invasion. Backing the Caldari bid. |

I now warp in at 30 km and launch my drones. Now they start fighting on their own and afterwards listen to my commands. Unluckily sometimes they attack useless things like Gurista bunkers

I have the same problem with mining drones - they're right there with me, 500m from the asteroid I'm locked onto and mining, and they're idle. I tell them to Mine, nothing. I tell them to Mine Repeatedly, still nothing. This happens about 60% of the time - the rest they start mining after a short delay and all is well.

Keep in mind also that your drones only have so much range. As you build your skillset you will be able to increase the range at which drones attack....

My only problem with drones thus far is the straggler. I use 4 light scout drones for most of my agent missions, and while 3 race to the target at max. velocity, there's always one that likes to take its sweet time. I find it to be a minor inconvenience, but I've never had any serious problems with my drones.

I was wondering about this bug as well, as I was trying to use some mining drones and they buzzed around with the status "(idle)". I found that if I open and closed the drone overview window, it would referesh the status (in this case, as "(mining)". Did this work properly before?
