I've been doing hi sec exploration for some time. I know its not all that profitable but it is something to do that is relatively safe.
My question is this:
Have you ever gotten an escalation from say the Guristas Den, Refuge or Hideaway. I have literally done hundreds of these without a single escalation so I am wondering if they still have a small chance at escalating or if it is just reserved for sites like Watch and Vigil.

I have had a Hideaway escalate into Gurista Scout Outpost. It was in low sec though.

Im thinking that should not make a difference. Scout OPs show up in hi sec too, so it should be able to escalate to one.

I think you are right, im guessing its just a very small chance of escalation and you have been unlucky, I just asked someone else i know that runs these things regularly, and he says he is sure he has had one escalte also.

Yea, I've read that both Den and Hideaway can escalate.....not sure on Refuge but i do that one for the occasional faction spawn. I am actually trying to get a more definate idea of how oftern these escalate so I can publish a resource for hi sec explorers. Thanks for your input.

My personal experience has been that Hideaways escalate to the 4/10 (at least for Gurista).
Based on a sample size of a little over 400 hideaways run (not counting the named ones), I'd put the escalation chance around 5%. I'm no expert on prob and stats but I'd imagine there is a bit of deviation there.
Chance for faction spawn is much higher, something like 10%. These are definitely worth doing if you explore in high sec and are probing down a signature.

i did about 16 hideaways today with 2 faction spawns...still no escalation
also did about 12 dens....seems a faction cruiser can spawn here, I got that twice but no escalation

Please stop confusing Cosmic Anomalies and Cosmic Signatures, they are not the same thing and have totally different mechanics. Anomalies, the ones you can get with just the onboard scanner, or without having to scan them down, have a 1-2% chance to escalate. Yes, you can do literally hundreds without having an escalation.
Cosmic Signatures, the ones you need to scan down with probes, have a much higher chance of escalation, though it does vary. Something like Gurista Base has about a 10% escalation chance, whereas Dread Guristas Fleet Staging Point is about 50%. I know these are nullsec sites, but the hisec ones work the same way.
DED rated cosmic signatures never escalate.

Hi sec anomolies = burrow, den, hideaway, refuge
hi sec sigs = vigil, watch, lookout hideout
i am trying to figure out which of the anomolies in hi sec will escalate and i know it can take hundreds as i have done that many. I know how often the sig ones escalate
and i know that DED sites dont escalate
i am not sure where you think we were confusing anything from

About two weeks ago, a friend and I were doing high sec probing in amarr space. We got one of the drone locations, it escalated five times, and we ended up finishing it in low sec. Sorry, I don't remember the names of the pockets, but one of them had two amarr dreads in it, being assembled. Got a lot of drone materials to make augmented drones, and the last special drone in low sec dropped some tech 2 salvage pieces. |

I've had the Sansha_Hideaway Anomaly in high security systems escalate to the DED rated 3/10 Sansha's_Command_Relay_Outpost expedition which is always located in low security systems.
Course that DED site can also be found in high security systems.
