Edited by: EVEcitizen2119278 on 20/11/2010 17:31:34 I was just watching incursion testing on youtube and saw/heard the alarms which would sound in station during incursions. I think this is a neat idea, I just dislike the fact that it's an air raid siren.
It's the future, let's have klaxons like in all good sci-fi. I am also aware this is a test server, I just wanted to put it out there incase it was a final product.

The alarms exist, but only when docked.
Got to singularity and dock up in an incursion system for proof.

I think the alarms going off in station are a great idea to. I also am not fond of the air raid sirens. Klaxons would be cool though.

Again I ask this...if the stations are capable of having these alarms why can't the ships? For such an advanced culture that is supposed to reside in EvE they sure are stupid.

Klaxon alarm would be more appropriate, since EVE is a submarine simulator and klaxon is typically used in the navy and every scifi show uses a klaxon instead of a air raid siren. I also fail to see the point of using a siren, since stations have speaker and communication systems that cover all important areas. Also, when people think about alarms in a space scifi environment, it is usually a klaxon. Examples from Star wars and Star trek.
Air raid sirens have also the nasty habit of being annoying beyond belief. I know it is an alarm, but FFS test the sound before you release it by leaving it on on the test computers. If it gets annoying fast or is disruptive enough so people are forced to mute the game, it is too annoying to be included in the game. With a klaxon you can tell an alert is going on without making everyone crazy from listening to the constant howling of a siren.

doesn't seem so cool to me, probably because i can understand what those voices in the background are saying. it's czech train station announcements.
"express train number ..., direction ..., has arrived at platform 3." "please mind your personal safety and do not enter the railyard until the train has stopped."
seriously?

Reminds me of how George Lucas used a troupe of Filipino midgets to play the Ewoks, and anyone who knew Tagalog could understand their battle commentary.

I personally don't care if it's an air-raid siren, or a group of Ewoks screaming at me. Just so long as I have some warning that I'm in an incursion system, instead of undocking in a Badger and having this 'oh ****' moment when I see Nation NPCs camping the gates ... --------------------
But I've a rendezvous with Death At midnight in some flaming town ... And I to my pledged word am true, I shall not fail that rendezvous. |

i haven't tested it myself, but the video i saw on youtube the air raid effect was pretty quiet. Noticeable, but not exactly OHGODPLEASESHUTITOFF....at least over the station chatter and so forth _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |
