I have to say, it would be beyond amazing if there are actual consequences for failing to repel an incursion. Consequently, it will probably not be the case.

Nullsec alliances will probably only participate if their staging systems get cynojammed by Sanshas.
In those cases expect the system to get locked down and the system quickly rid of sanshas, at which point we will bugger off and lol at the LP they give us.

There allready is a Fifth Epire faction.....The Jovians are part from the Great Concil in Yulai, Sahnsha's Nation is technically nothing less then Pirate faction / Originally started as a private Corp by Sansha Kuwakei back over 100 years in the past before Sansha Kuwakei got totally mad and Insane and reached for Empire Power builded up a Threat against the other Factions. Read back the full story about Sansha's rose and fall in the Archives and stuff.

Two questions result from reading this thread.
1. When we say mission running will be "pretty much impossible", how impossible are we talking?
2. Can players help the sanshas? If not actively by ambushing carebears doing the plexes, then passively, by not ignoring the incursion?
What about underhanded schemes? If Jita is incursioned and missions there deactivated, could a fleet of pirates prevent carebears 'unlocking' the system, by bumping & targetting carebears en masse, while salvaging their wrecks or something? -omg-

Unless they are pushed back, they just stay in the affected constellation, blocking all cynos and pretty much making missioning impossible.
This just got EPIC!
would be superepic if the incursion effects (but no sites) slowly expanded throughout the region if the sansha weren't defeated. Imagine a lowsec incursion into somewhere like The Forge slowly consuming carebear missionhubs and alliance logistics points. Best lowsec boost ever, imho
I am intrigued by your ideas, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. ----------

From the dev blog on Incursions Originally by: "Dev Blog" In addition, systems invaded by Sanshas will receive certain system wide effects that affect all players inside them:
+ Reduction of all shield/armor resistances
+ Reduction of turret, missile, drone and smartbomb damage
+ Jamming of cynosural fields throughout the system
+ Reduction of 50% on all NPC bounties

They won't be for sale, they'll be handed to the next batch of borg sansha turns out. As for all the hopes it will turn epic and world changing, this is one carebear who thinks it should if they are going to do it at all. Of course, I also think we should be allowed to pod anyone helping sansha out, but hey, if you are going to pipe dream, smoke the good stuff. I'll have to do more reading and research before I know if I will enjoy this "update" or no. When all is said and done, there is usually more said than done. |

I would like to see the political landscape of the universe change more. I believe this to be a good start.
After the Sansha incursion is pushed back and we pod pilots destroy the wormhole that holds all the Sansha power, i would love to see the other empires try this same thing.
Yes FW tried this, but it was way to weak of an attempt. Hopefully this next patch will pave the way.

Edited by: Ghost Hunter on 22/11/2010 07:51:55 As far as Incursion mechanics go, I'm pretty sure after the week is over they pack up and leave. Perhaps a memo gets released with whatever objective they want being completed.
As far as storyline goes, couple different routes for that. Utilizing the power of knowledge of EVE not seemingly ending any time soon: the Sansha will not achieve "world ending" results. The hyper-cliche and cop out route would be for the Empires to discover some asinine weakness the Sansha possess, attack it, and undo a century of work over a downtime event. Another possibility is the Sansha achieve some objective that does not entail the destruction/enslavement of the Empires and return to their sovereign space for one reason or another. Third possibility is that the empires find a way to turn the incursions into a stalemate, keeping Sansha out of high security but not being able to completely decimate the new Nation.
I'm personally fond of anything except the cliche route being realized :)

1. When we say mission running will be "pretty much impossible", how impossible are we talking?
Currently on Sisi 10% less damage from the players ships, 10% more damage against the players ships in a system .
That mean that the player weapons (drone included) will do 10% less damage and that you get 10% more damage after the effect of resistances, i.e. if, outside the invaded system, the attacker is doing 100 damage and you have 90% resists you will get damaged for 10, inside a invaded system if the attacker is doing 100 damage your resists are lowered to 89% and you get 11 point of damage.
Note that if you have 30% resists against the same attack you will get damaged for 70 hp outside the invasion area and for 77 hp inside the invasion area (and your lowered resists will be 23%).
Pimped ships and players with plenty of SP will be moderately inconvenienced in missions (Sansha are another matter as they dish a lot of damage, use remote rep and so on) while young players that struggle with normal missions will have plenty of problems.
The 50% reduction of the bounties will have a larger effect in discouraging mission running in the area for experienced players.

Going by the "What CCP Promises vs. What CCP Delivers" scale, what'll end up happening is that belt rats will be replaced with Sansha rats (if they weren't already), and that's about it. Some RP posts about the formation of a few dozen interstellar treaty organizations to fight the "Sansha threat" will be made, maybe another Eve novel will be written about it, etc.
I'd be very surprised if it lived up to even 1/4 of what it's being trumped up to be.

Originally by: Dr Karsun I think they are attacking and not staying for long, they kill and purge whatever they can and move out. It can take a week, maybe more, no idea, haven't read any dev blog about maximum duration.
Especiall if with every hour there will be more and more sanshas. Or even a hostile takeover of a station in high sec? Sounds yummy.
BTW - if sanshas appear in high sec... Does concord stop to work? It would be quite obvious it would, since they don't appear to kick the sansha ass pirates, they shouldn't come to shoot any pirates.
Doesn't really make any sense as far as concord is concerned. They're able to take on anything (even super capitals), are invulnerable, you can't even target them, and can go anywhere, they can even warp into deadspace areas. Why should we worry about some pirate scum invasion when we have an invulnerable police force?

Thats the thing with scripted events - they do not win. They just idle there for a bit and eventually someone comes and kills them or they .. dunno .. wander off ? Just sit there for years doing nothing ?

Initially -- scramble mode to do them wherever they appear.
After that... Ugly.
If you can get rid of the penalties by cleaning a system, highsec systems and nullsec systems (that are staging areas or SOV) will be cleaned up. Other spots will be left alone.
To do lowsec or nullsec that isn't in "Secure" areas, you'll need patrol groups to deal with gates, stations and the pirates while other fleets are doing the complexes -- those troopers get zip for watching the complex runners backs. As such, I don't see many PvE types being all that thrilled with the idea of cleaning up system messes in lowsec and unclaimed nullsec.
No, I don't see a lot of volunteers lining up for gate/station camp duty in lowsec systems when they get nothing but "warm fuzzies" for seeing the mess is 'safely' cleaned up... They'll just move hubs and leave it go if they get nothing from complex running to clean a given system.

Typically,past incursions ended after the Sanshas harvested a few planets of a damn good portion of their inhabitants;
I wonder if that will have an effect on PI as if they kidnap the citizens, who will operate the harvesters.
