The three that are particularly awkward IMO are PDU (Power Diagnostic System), BCU (Ballistic Control System), and CNR (Raven Navy Issue). I don't think EVE has a linguistic equivalent of JGC's "Turkey", though...

Doesn't matter. That's what they stand for. Heavy Assault Cruiser doesn't exist either.

90% certain the PDU used to be the PDU, it was changed somewhere along the patches to PDS. The rest, not so sure of.

It was, and the CNR really was called the Caldari Navy Raven once upon a time. All the faction ships were streamlined into "X - Y Issue" later.
The rest (like HAC) are mainly due to the fatal error of not running names through Marketing before announcement. Case in point is why Starbases are "lovingly" called POS. CCP actually coined the term first and it never went away.

Don't know about anyone else, but I have always referred to Imperial Navy Multis as "AN Multis" as in "Amarr Navy".
And a "Plex" will always be a deadspace complex and not a method for paupers to play EVE, imho. Pretty sure this is moar popular than "IM" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HAC is another one in the same mould. They're all particularly tricky for newer players IME, because the acronym doesn't match the ingame item name. As a relative newbie, you can probably figure out "RCU" on your own, eventually. With "PDU", someone has to tell you what it means.

We like to refer to that as Disco time! Side note: fitting disco means a battleship with its highs full of smartbombs. ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

Smartbombs are often called "smarties" (which are, in Germany, a kind of sweet like M&M's).
Damage Controls are sometimes referred as "Band Aids" because of the picture. "Rats" ar NPC pirates, while pirates are players scouring the Low Sec systems. "To pop a cyno" means to open what military experts call "a cynosural field" . Supercarriers are often still referred as "Moms" or "MILF" (Mothershiip I Like to Fly). "Carebears" are all people who engage in non-PvP activities and are generally despised by people who engage in PvP activities for not doing so.
I think of more.

Alot of confusion comes from when they changed the name
For example
Mom= Super Carrier They used to be called Motherships.
CNR = Raven Navy Issue They used to be called Caldari Navy Ravens. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

As a rule of thumb, given two names for something, I tend to pick the less stupid one, regardless of what common usage is.
Thus, I say starbase instead of POS, heavy assault ship instead of heavy assault cruiser (there is no such thing as a light assault cruiser, so it makes no sense), and, most importantly, character instead of t**n. Yes, I self-censored. That's how much I hate it.
Also, I prefer naval abbreviations for ships. Thus, BB for battleship, DD for destroyer, FF for frigate, CC, CA or CG for cruisers, CV for carriers, etc. I usually just type the word out, though, since I know how to type and thus a few extra letters aren't a big deal. -----SIGNATURE-----
Originally by: CCP Ginger Ships have crews, most pod controlled frigates do not, above that they have crews of varying sizes. Hope that helps.
