Most Capsuleers, if not all of them, do not know, or care that thier ships have living, breathing crews inside them. These crews are men and women just like you or me, each has a life.
And yet, each day i hear about the losses of thousands of ships every day, and admittedly, destroy many hundreds myself. I know not whether these ships crews die or whether they manage to escape, to fight or live another day. While contemplating this, i wondered how many people were on board my Mealstrom, or how many people were helping run my Hulk.
After thinking on this for a while, i decided to put up a memorial to all of the souls lost in countless wars and battles, to those lost to piracy or racial hatred, or to those lost under courageous or even criminal circumstances.
This Memorial is a group of 4 Battleships, a Rokh, a Mealstrom, a Hyperion and an Abbaddon. These ships will be flown into a private or secluded location in the system of my coice, they will then be abandoned by the crew and will be shut down. Bulkheads, doors, airlocks and pod doors will be welded shut and sealed off. These wiill effectively become free floating anchored Ghost ships.
Several Small Secure Containers will be placed around the area as well and various books and scriptures will be placed inside these containers, all filled with memorials, tomes, and books remembring those lost, where, how, why and what ship they were in when they died.
i ask you, that when you visit this site once it is completed, that you pray a moment of silence for those lost.
Also, in light of the recent unsurgence of Sansha and the rise in other pirate faction activity, another memrial, one of a single Nightmare class battleship, sealed and locked as the others, with mutliple containers circling it, will be put there. In these containers, a list of those known that were lost during the incursions, and a log containing a list of ships that were lost in the battles to stop the abductions.
Ladies and gentlemen of New Eden, i beg of you, pray silence and support me in any way you can.

Hm. A worthwhile display of sentiment, pilot. You'll naturally want to make sure these ships are stowed inside an orbital facility's force field. Otherwise, you'll have salvage teams burning out their warp drives to be the first to reach whatever system you name.

This sounds something like what we do by adding the names of our lost to a Memorial Banner of the 21st. Good luck to you sir.

And your point is?
You rely on these people. My crews also form part of my security entourage when on an unfamiliar station. I don't think showing a little respect for them is inappropriate.
Anyone who signs up for a baseline military organisation knows they are putting their life on the line but I have never heard of such an organisation that does not have some form of remeberance for it's fallen. Regards,

With a gift as great as ours comes a responsibility to honor and respect those who offer their lives in service of our goals. Whether their motives be financial security, service of country, desire for adventure, they make what we do possible and should be compensated accordingly. More capsuleers should strive to treat our crews humanely, and compensate the families of those who perish while in our service.

Spoken like a true Amarr. My crews sign a contract delineating responsibilities and services to be rendered, and with clauses that state what I am required to furnish them. It's all very cut-and-dry, including the requirement that they carry life insurance which is paid out upon the event of death. --------------------
But I've a rendezvous with Death At midnight in some flaming town ... And I to my pledged word am true, I shall not fail that rendezvous. |

Unless you are not properly tanking your vessel (shame on you!), most ship losses have a reasonable rate of survival for the crew, both your own and the folks you are shooting at.
Damage Control II installations, and the internal forcefields they provide, are usually a much appreciated module among the crew. Don't forget to fit them; it's the only thing giving your people that extra few seconds to bail.

Officially addding life insurance and damage control modules to ship based protocol. Maybe a crate or two of spiced wine for morale?
