Weird movie, though I would also go totally insane if I was stuck on the moon for 3 years with no one to talk to but Kevin Spacey

Yeah, I use that excuse too.

True, however you'd be able to drive yourself sane again by talking to the voices in your head.
P.S. Great film. P.P.S. The Man from Earth is another great film with practically no budget, set in one room too!
Oh and it has the doctor guy from Enterprise, you know, the alien one.

Yeah, that is most likely why the facility is set up in the way that it is.
(trying my best not to say any spoilers)

Excellent movie and it definitely raises some ethical questions that could potentially be confronted within the next 100 years, if not sooner.

I don't care about that sort of ethics: we've given up on the idea of reproducing, but I do want a clone of myself. That would be awesome, for many different reasons.
And yes, great movie. I like Sam Rockwell, he was great too on "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind".

Just saw the film. I like this type of scifi - lonely melancholy. Though the whole totally amoral mega-corporation theme is a worn out theme.
Where are at a point now with genetics development of plant and animals where a lot of people find aspects of it objectionable. But with the Frankenstein scaremongering of it from the likes of Foxnews\Daily Mail a lot of good genetic engineering of food crops is not being utilised that could help poor agrarian based countries.

So why did the clones only last so long? I didn't get that in the film. Why wouldn't a company let the guy live out his contract and go home?
I can only assume that they couldn't find anyone to agree to the job, so they let the clones perpetually work forever, but this doesn't make sense either.
Anyways. Relax! I'm here to save the forums!!! |

Moon is an excellent movie, one of my favorites of all time. Soundtrack is top notch as well, and does it great justice.
Also, whoeveryouare reminded me of The Man From Earth - so I dug it out of the corner of my harddrive and watched it for the first time. Exceptional story. Acting was well done.

Everyone knows Zombie Strippers is the best movie of all time.
My favorite part was the part with the ping pong balls and then the pool balls

It's never really elaborated on, it could just be the lifetime of a clone to due to flaws in the tech or an engineered expiry date so they can keep recycling clones without ever having to send them home. I got the impression from the ending that what the company was doing wasn't official or strictly legal.

Technically they did, the original guy was back home on Earth alive and well, it just seems his replacements were a succession of clones who died and were replaced.
As to why, maybe it was simply cheaper (although unethical) - they never have to worry about actually paying the clones for the work they do and there's no costs involved with training and sending someone new out each time. All they have to do is claim the place is now fully automated and hope no one finds out about it.

*spoilers*
also possible that their clowning tech was flawed (as it invariably is in any movie) and the clones only live a maximum of 3 years. then you take the blood of the only sucker to agree to a contract with those terms, clone him and set the original contract to only last 3 years.
or perhaps because they were raised in a sealed environment they didn't have any immune-system... and a stray bacteria gave them the flu or a cold...
*shrugs* or it was just a plot-point so that they could introduce his replacement in a good way.

they should have cloned a couple of Jessica Albas to keep him company tbh ...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming
