Edited by: Cipher Jones on 28/11/2010 23:25:09 All of New Eden is PvP on 100% of the time. There is not a single "Carebear" in this game. Oh, there are people who wish they could be a carebear, turn PvP off, and play EvE in "single player mode". But the fact of the matter is that's not how CCP designed their game. The word gets used over and over again in multiple contexts, and all derogatory. In all honesty its usually amusing to see people try to present points utilizing "carebear" as part of their argument. The other point I find amusing is that CCP publishes the QEN, and the arguements made against "carebears" relating to what section of space they live in are statistically off quite often.
Carebear this carebear that, the fact of the matter is PvP is always on in New Eden, and there is no reason whatsoever to complain about people who don't seek out Pvp when you can seek them out and kill them any time you want, ever.

PvP is always on, so according to your logic a player cannot control if they are a carebear or not. That would make it an especially ignorant usage, such as gender or racial comments.

Fair point TBH, the term is pretty much meaningless since every type of player throws it at every other type of player just because they don't like their playstyle, it's just an eve characterized expletive now.

they may not actively pvp in the traditional sense, but whatever their activities are, they are done (to a greater or lesser extent) in a pvp environment, always at risk of pvp. OP has a point IMHO

Yes they could PVP that's control. You're saying they're PVPers even though they don't PVP.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble here Sir but some of us don't play EVE for the PVP aspect of the game. I personally don't play any game for the PVP side of it and I would love some other option than joining the NPC corp to opt out of PVP. I play this game for the enjoyment of missions, mining and helping others. I like the challenge of trading and so on. PVP is just a big turn off to me in this game. I've quit before due to pvp and it really wouldn't bother me to quit again.
A pvp opt out for high sec corps with restrictions as to what they can do would be most excellent. Most games give you the option of PVP which is nice. EVE dissapoints me with no option other than leave my corp and join an NPC corp thanks to some lame corp war who wants to war dec a highsec corp for **** and giggles.
I'm sure most people would agree, the only ones who wouldn't are the ones that kill high sec miners and such for fun and take part in low sec PVP. Really hope CCP brings changes to this soon.

Stop personalizing it. If you have a character that PVP's you can have a character that's a carebear. They don't have to be pvp/carebear because "oh I'm both irl"

After reading your post it is clear that your bubble was burst, not mine.
@Jenny so only being able to control half of an aspect of something is control? In that case go drive your car using only the gas pedal and brake, but not the steering. Also, you can only control it (PvP) if you are able to attack the other player. If you had a Raven and I had a slasher you would not be able to engage me, making you a "carebear"

"Fact of the matter" is those that stay in Empire 100% of the time and do nothing but missions, mining, etc...are Carebears. Just because they are in a game where PvP can occure anywhere does not mean they are not Carebear for staying in the safest place where they are least likely to PvP and be podded.

Empire space is not the space where the least PvP takes place, however. Do you have a different argument?

If you don't seek PVP or engage in PVP or want to PVP you're not a PVPer that's like saying "People on these streets are murderers, I am on these streets, therefor I am a murderer." it's not true.

No, he's saying that they PvP, even though they're not PvPers. It might not sound like a huge difference, but it is. You can't do anything in EVE without taking part in the overall player-vs-player competition.
Originally by: Rick Jamezz I'm sorry to burst your bubble here Sir but some of us don't play EVE for the PVP aspect of the game.
That's not his bubble, and you're not bursting it. He's saying that, no matter why you play EVE, you can't escape the PvP. You may not seek it out, but that won't help you ù it seeks you out, and you can't escape it.
Quote: I play this game for the enjoyment of missions, mining and helping others.
And all of those have PvP components.
Quote: A pvp opt out for high sec corps with restrictions as to what they can do would be most excellent.
It would also be entirely impossible, and (even in the sense you mean it) detrimental to the game. Destruction of assets is one of the key drivers of the game, and if that destruction was optional, it wouldn't be enough to make the whole thing work. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Hm, did you fly around EVE recently a bit? Tbh, your post sounds so 2007/8, if not even earlier. Face it, EVE is becoming more and more of a fluffy, WoWsy and dumbed down grindfest catering to the "Farmville in Space" fanbois. Well, at least CONCORD's forum division still seems understaffed...

I like my carebear alts...keep me in ships in time of war, and make ratting a voluntary exercise when not at war. Officer/faction hunt...then kill stuff for an hour or if motivated to give the corp their tax money and all the ca ho's have claimed the good stuff. Been lucky and found many good good null sec homes, corp benefits don't pay for themselves, can give up a few million in taxes to keep stuff running (and to look like an active member tbh...no pvp going least I show up in the corp wallet logs to show I am on and doing something).
I also happen to like my pure carebear brothers and sisters. As long as they keep buying the faction fittings I know I would just lose in pvp so better off sold to buy moar ships and fittings...they can carebear as much as they want to lol.

Yes, this game is all pvp, as I've read a long time ago, all aspects of the game are pvp and not just when you are out flying your ship. When selling ships and equipment, you are competing against other players to sell your stock to other players to have it bought, and the players help determine what the going costs are for the items on the market. Without the 'carebears' making and selling everything on the market (or 'carebear' alts doing the work), the combat-focused pilots would not be able to afford the ships they fly to do what they consider as the only pvp aspect of the game. Some players get their kicks when they see big explosions in space, others get their kicks when they sell that t2 ship at Rens for a good price.. but they are all pvpers as we all compete against other players to make our way through the game.

lol...well with that logic than any game with a market to sell items is considered a PvP game. I can't say I really argue with your point but I don't think thats what people think of when you say PvP.

Yeah the term PVPer is being used extremely loosly in this thread. by the way this is going you could claim this is a PVE game because PVE is necessary to PVP... gather materials, produce/loot goods then sell them on market. So everyone is a carebear by engaging in carebearing. Pointless

Its actually being used by its definition and literal sense, which is of course Player Vs Player. Someone did mention it in a touchy-feely context once, but they have been forgiven.

I don't see why the term PvP should be strickly for combat purposes only. This game is not only combat, it is not only PVE, and it is not a build/sell on market only game.. it takes each aspect of the game to provide for the others.
I just think there should be a little more respect for other professions within the game.. well, for everyone except greifers, as respect is not what they are looking to get anyway.
