There are references to the Sleeper AI coming to missions in the coming multi-patches.
It doesn't say what missions and just how many or what significance the new AI will have.
It could just be the Sansha incursion missions, but it could also be across all missions!
As a drone boat mission runner this worries me.

As a drone boat sleeper killer, this makes me happy.
Sorry you can't afk billions of isk anymore. Managing drones is not hard.

Agreed. The Sleeper drone armageddon is rather over blown. I lived in a wormhole for 6 months and lost less than a dozen.

+1 to the above lads, if your awake whilst killing sleepers you can return the drones to your bay in time.

It is a byproduct of Sleepers having some actual AI changing targets to test out all aggressors. This means in low/null sec, jumping mission runners might actually be a challenge. Sure, I can spam d-scan all day prepared to run with my tail between my legs, but if visitors shared some of the aggro*, then I'd fit a point and run missions with my GAME FACE on! RAWWWRrr[cough][wheeze] (Anyone have a lozenge?)
*Hell if they took all the aggro at first it might be fair, the rats have already been beating on me for who-knows-how-long.

I haven't dealt with sleepers yet you see, I was worried that drones would just get targetted and fired on when you launch them making it near to impossible to use them in missions and I find rails have a narrow kill range. Small ones don't kill big things, but large ones can't track little things.

Do you have source to claim up that sleeper AI is implemented in normal missions as well in this patch ? As far as I'm aware normal missions are not changed in this patch in any way (other than system wide effects for resists and damage). Only the new sansha incursion complexses have the Sleeper AI as far as I'm aware.

I'm going to assume that afk runners are a minority, and that to the people who actively run missions it will be an annoyance and make the experience less enjoyable.
as for afk running the income is pretty poor, not really something that needs nerfing. and if anything afk running so you can instead watch a movie or read a book instead of play eve is a pretty good indicator of missions are boring and not enjoyable.

right cuz I'm sure no one ever gets ganked running sites in w-space
and they will probably use sufficient numbers that a little npc aggro really isn't any trouble at all.

I don't think it actually said "There will be sleeper AI in missions", but the following might have triggered me to suspect it is either coming in Sansha Incursions or maybe soon after...
""This content will have its own line of NPCs too that are tailored especially for it. They're going to have the standard Sleeper AI (no matter where you meet them, even in high sec!) with some new behavior components put in. Overall, these NPCs are going to have more defined roles than NPCs previously have and be given some clever AI components to support that. Don't be surprised if you see sniper NPC battleships and bombers that do more intelligent target selection.""
The "This content" is ambiguous, but hopefully it just means just the Sansha incursion fleet rats.
Regarding this impact if it does come to normal missions. For me, I don't AFK missions, but I do often run 2 accounts. I find the current AI with the likes of Angel spawns can be taxing keeping 2 ships and 2 sets of drones while managing agro. Sleeper AI will make it near to impossible to keep both ships and both sets of drone alive for long and T2 drones are no cheap, if you lose 4 or 5 then you will find it hard pushed to more than break even after the mission.

Well of course they do, but generally you wait until there are few sleepers remaining, depending on how many friends you have of course. I've jumped people while running sites on several occasions. One time underestimated the Drake's tank and ended up having to warp out because I just couldn't handle Drake + sleeper BS damage long enough.
And of course they will bring friends. I didn't say it would be (nor would I ever want it to be) impossible to gank a mission runner, I'd just like to see it be more dynamic and less one-sided against the potential victim.

Yes and let's officially allow macro mining while we're at it , finally miners will get rid of all those annoyances... If your idea of enjoyable is to fight ******ed AI which offer 0 challenge and never do something "unexpected" which require you to react than yes it won't be enjoyable.

Just to be very clear. I only care if the sleeper AI gets into mission NPC because..
I AFK? - Nope. Because I like boring missioned where everything is predictable (and not everything is and I don't have an infalabel tank anyway for level 4s like Stop the Theif second spawn)... Nope.
But... What does worry me is..
With drones + occasional pot shots with rails/blasters when NPC are in good range I can clear a decent level 4 in 30mins.
However, if I had to pull drones with my current ship choice and set up it would take me hours and hours! I think my drone DPS is like 6 times my guns.

You only have to pull them in for a few seconds each time, until the ships target your ship again.

Depends.
I can see where people who use Sentries would be easily able to deal with this issue, as generally they are near their drones and can pull them in and put them out quickly.
Similarly with Light Drones, as they go pretty quick, and are mainly useful for frigates that like to get close anyway.
But for those of us that like Ogre II's, those things are fat and slow, and if Sleeper AI comes to missions, then the repair bill is going to get high.
I don't mind the idea of change in PvE, I'd actually love to see a great deal about it change. I'm hopeful that AI that turns standard rats into drone eating bastages will spark a long needed drone review.

Good point actually i dont often get the Ogre 2s out in there, i only really use them for smaller ships.

Well, if they bring the sleeper RR along with the target switching it'll make life interesting, specially some of the bigger rooms ( vengeance with full room RR? :p ). If they don't change mission rat weapon systems much then you can pretty much set a drone up to tank anyway.

Missions are not being updated with Sleeper AI in the Incursion expansion. Extant content will behave as expected.
Incursion sites are using new jerk-face difficult NPCs with their own AI, which are effectively the Sleeper AI's meaner cousins.

so requiring players to recall drones more frequently adds challenge.
like I said earlier, it is nothing but an annoyance.

highsec belt rats are no threats to hulks.
and if your idea of enjoyable is fighting ******ed AI that every now and then makes you recall your drones.... well imo that really doesn't add any fun to it now does it?
and sentries ftw! sit in scoop range, and have nice large hp buffers.

If it's all that it takes to be red for your entire corp then your corp standings list will be full damn fast. For example after spending 5 minutes in Jita local
As far as Sleeper AI goes, good to know the normal missions will not turn horrific deathtraps overnight. When they do - I'm sure there will be a devblog about it.

Originally by: Sader Rykane Realize that its not just "Sleeper AI" that makes sleepers more challenging than missions. The big difference between sleepers and mission NPC's is DAMAGE TYPE AND AMOUNT.
In a "solo" encounter the only difference between sleeper AI and regular AI is that sometimes they'll shoot your drones, oh and small frigates fly a S pattern when approaching you so you don't just insta pop them at range.
