This is a nightmare for Canadians. Have to book extra flights to Toronto or Halifax (~400$) plus the ticket to Iceland (900$) and then we need to BUY our tickets to FF2011 AND our hotels which is another 650 to 800$. This is not including food and drinks.
Why does the rest of the world get hotel and airfare for under 1200 and we get it for 2000$ CCP?!
I was planning on coming if it hit under 1600. I'm not coming, this isn't worth my money sorry.
Barbados here I come!

There is a minimum age limit, it is 18. CCP made this clear in their FAQ.
Interestingly, the Icelandic minimum age for drinking is 20.

Originally by: Mjana I also haven't found out where else to book the Golden Circle Express/Blue Lagoon Hangover Party. I guess the Hangover Party should still be bookable during Fanfest, but since Golden Circle tour is before Fanfest, would be nice to get the tickets in advance. I will send an Email to CCP asking about this and let you know
Got an answer from CCP about how to book the excursions when not booking a Fanfest package (or when they're not available like on German Icelandair website):
Originally by: CCP Tyr Hi Christian!
You will be able to book those on site at Fanfest and/or via a site we are working on. Stay tuned!
I will look into the German Icelandair site issue. Thank you for the feedback.
Look forward to seeing you at Fanfest,

Question regarding Sunday's Blue Lagoon Hangover event:
It is showing that they are picking people up at 10:30am (to go to the Blue Lagoon) and picking them back up a mere three hours later at 14:00.
Will there be more pickups or does CCP have the place set aside for a mere three hours?
Looking forward to hanging out in the geothermal salt water spa while have one of CCP's DJ's spinning tunes.
Thank you, .Rahm PacDragon

Well, the way I read it is that that the company who is providing the deal will turn up with a bunch of coaches to take our pickled heads to a hot place to soak them in. So, one pickup time, lots of coaches. The down side, is that there may be a limit to available seats. I'm not sure the venue can survive about 3k people decending on them in one go.
What CCP have done for us is to negotiate us a slightly lower tariff on a standard offer. Nothing more (that I can tell).
I'm not sure about you, but 2 hours in a hot spring is enough to make me roll around in the snow to reduce my core temperature. But I agree, 3H is a little on the short side to veg out somewhere warm.
CCP, any comment?

Yep, with how-ever many people all descending (at the same time) upon the venue with the turn-around time being less then three hours (not counting time used in changing into swim suits, waiting for transport, length of time getting to the spa, standing around in line, etc.) how time the average joe will have time to soak one's noggin' and/or use the facilities.
The wife put forth the question to me as I'm thinking she may want to see about using their other spa services (if they will be available and we have enough time). Otherwise she is thinking we may want to spend some extra time (a different day) at the spa. (Then again I may be over-thinking it on time needed/wanted at the spa.)

Greetings Fanfest Attendees!
We are aware of the issues with some of the Icelandair packages and are working with them and will try to solve these issues as soon as possible.
- Make France package available
- Add special CCP trips to Germany and Netherlands packages
- The reason Canadian packages from Icelandair only fly via America is because Icelandair is simply not flying from Canada during this time according to them.
Dohop.com is a great site for finding the best way to travel to Iceland. I encourage anyone that can't find an Icelandair package for them to check it out.
Cost saving tip: Norden Voyager Card
Names on Badges: Like always, you will be able to write whatever on your pass. Some EVE players for very good reasons do not want their names on the badges. They might be trying to get some Alliance leader drunk and let a secret slip or whatever
Soaking in the Blue Lagoon for more than one hour is not suggested. It can be quite hot. Those that want to stay longer can simply take a later bus back to Reykjavik on their own or grab a Taxi and make a run for the airport. The reason for the tight window is that most of us will have a huge hangover from the Party at the Top of the World and need to wake up in time for the trip and a lot of people have to be at the airport in time for their afternoon flight back home the same day.
Information and registration for the CCP special trips (Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon) will be added to the Fanfest site as soon as possible.
Links to some good sites that give information about Iceland and Reykjavfk: grapevine.is - Your essential guide to life, travel and entertainment in Iceland InspiredbyIceland.com - Get Inspired by Iceland! There is even a video clip of CCP Hellmar explaining how he/CCP is inspired by Iceland. visiticeland - Your official guide to Iceland
I also suspect that EON might have a a lot of Fanfest information in their next issue. You do not want to miss that.
For special requests regarding the age limit and still wanting to go accompanied by a parent, please send them to [email protected] or any other questions you might have regarding anything.
Hope this helps! CCP Tyr

Are the Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle parts bookable separate from icelandair as looking at a different carrier so I can fly from Gatwick. Hoping the coach/bus element for the two above items are part of the events not the icelandair package as such so I could still get dropped off at the airport afterwards. ;)

CCP are working on another section of the FanFest website that will allow people to book the CCP specific Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle items (not sure if there will be other items). I do not know when this will be available.
This will allow us to book flights independently of any CCP specific program item.

If someone is looking to save some money, we saved about 200$ per person by booking everything separately vs using the packages that were offered.
For 2 people leaving from Boston and staying at the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica from the 23rd to the 27th, we paid per person: $500 economy flight + $190 twin double room at hotel + $75 Fanfest pass + $40 Flybus with return trip = $805 vs $1001 per person with the package.

Are you really sure those $190 are for all four nights? I can only see room rates for Hilton Nordica starting at 95$ per night for a double room... Either you've got hell of a special discount that I can't find anywhere (the 95$ per night are the "Any weekend anywhere" special offer with 50% discount already) or you mixed up the daily rate for the total rate and will come up with ~1375$...

A question about room booked through the Package Deal.
It gives options (when booking for 2 adults) for either "Twin Room" or "2 X Single room".
Does the "Twin Room" hold two twin beds and the "2 x Single Room" holds only one bed (is it a double or queen?)?

I take it you are looking at Iceland Express? I used them last FF but they like to change their timetable short notice. Getting a taxi at 5am to KEF airport wasn't fun. Or cheap.

Also a tip with Hotel Cabin;
In the package is offers the single / twin room. This isn't the deluxe room - which is like ú3 more or so. I don't see the deluxe being involved in the package deal. Best advice: SHOP AROUND

I would guess from the wording that "2x single room" means "1 room with 2 single beds", and "twin room" means "1 room with 1 double bed". Don't quote me on it though.

O.K Great thread but I have some very important questions that haven't been asked yet.
1) Who's picking me up at the airport? (I don't like to be kept waiting and they Better have a fast car to make that 40km trip fast!)
2) What forms of payment will be accepted for the sielent auction?
3) Do I need to rent a car or will staying at one of the close-by hotels get me to everything associated with fanfest? (with in walking distance?)
4) How expensive are DUI's in Iceland?
5) How's the bus system there? Does it run all night?
6) How much does a bottles of Jack or Crown cost in Iceland? Can I import them? Does anyone want to buy some?
7) No really how much do they cost and can we bring them into the country?
8) What time do Bar's open and close in Iceland? (ie) on average?
9) Can you put something in EVE with a koala bear on it so my wife will like the game and not nag me when I play too long? (If anybody from "down under" is coming can you bring my wife a koala?)
Thanks for the help! Waiting for the booze question to be answered :)

Originally by: Eelora 1) Who's picking me up at the airport? (I don't like to be kept waiting and they Better have a fast car to make that 40km trip fast!)
-Shuttle bus, usually bookable when booking the fanfest package or any other flight+hotel package with Icelandair. -Rent a car (sixt, budget, ...) There's no airport-pickup organized by CCP
Originally by: Eelora 3) Do I need to rent a car or will staying at one of the close-by hotels get me to everything associated with fanfest? (with in walking distance?) 4) How expensive are DUI's in Iceland?
3) Hilton Nordica, Park Inn, Cabin Hotel and maybe some other hotels are really close to the Fanfest location, so renting a car to get to fanfest is pretty pointless. The bars downtown are still withing "walkable" distance. (around 3-4km maybe from Fanfest location to city center) You can also use a taxi. Finding a parking space close to bars downtown is not always easy and I would say pretty much impossible on friday and satuday evenings and: 4) Drinking and driving is a bad idea in iceland.
Quote: Driving under the influence of alcohol is considered a serious offense in Iceland. The threshold blood alcohol test (BAT) level is very low. Drivers can be charged with DUI (Driving Under the Influence) with a BAT as low as .05%. Drivers stopped under suspicion of DUI are usually given a "balloon" or Breathalyzer test. If the test is positive, a blood test is routinely administered. Under Icelandic law, a blood test cannot be refused and will be administered by force if necessary. The minimum punishment for a first offense is a fine of 70,000 Icelandic Kronur (approximately 625 US Dollars) and the loss of driving privileges for two months.

Hi Eelora!
6) How much does a bottles of Jack or Crown cost in Iceland? Can I import them? Does anyone want to buy some?
This is taken from the Directorate of Customs:
Alcoholic beverages and tobaccos: In addition to goods referred to above, travelers can import duty-free alcoholic beverages and tobacco products as follows:
1 liter spirits and 1 liter wine or 3 liters wine or 1 liter spirits and 6 liters beer or 1,5 liter wine and 6 liters beer. Spirits comprise alcoholic beverages containing more than 21% alcohol; wines comprise alcoholic beverages, other than beer, containing 21% alcohol or less.
200 cigarettes or 250 g of other tobacco products The minimum age for bringing alcoholic beverages into Iceland is 20 years and 18 years for tobaccos.
So yes, you can import the stuff but only so little. You should bring as much as you can because it is expensive in Iceland. Alcohol is only available in The State Alcohol and Tobacco Company of Iceland aka Vfnb·=in. You can of course buy whatever at bars and such but then again at bar prices. There is no 7-11 with cold beers in the fridge.
A bottle of Jack from Vfnb·=in sets you back around 6300 ISK (54 USD / 40 EUR). A bottle of Jack at a bar.....Not recommended. A 0,5 liter beer at Vfnb·=in: 250 - 350 ISK A 0,5 liter beer at a bar: 600 - 900 ISK
8) What time do Bar's open and close in Iceland? (ie) on average?
They open early and close very late. Usually around 5 or 6 in the morning. Good times!
I hope this helps!
Look forward to seeing you all at Fanfest! CCP Tyr

(Copying some infos I posted on another thread, since they might be useful here)
I found and scanned the old schedules from 2008 and 2009. Maybe this will give you a better idea what's going on during Fanfest
Some random thoughts about the hotels:
Hilton Nordica: -More expensive, but pretty affordable, when you book early and get the 50% discount on room rates -Closest to Fanfest venue
Park Inn Hotel: -Medium priced -I stayed there in 2008 and 2009 and was happy with my choice -It seems most of the CSM also stayed at Park Inn Hotel. -They have paid WiFi internet BUT last year I found out that they had some special code for Fanfest-attendees for free internet. I had to ask for it tough and heard about it from some guy who heard from some guy... -Nice breakfast buffet with everything you can ask for: coffee, tea, milk, fruit juices, toastbread, some sweet bakery, bacon, scrambled eggs, slices of cheese and meat, vegetables and fruits, yogurt, cereals, ... And it was open till 10am. (not sure if it will be the same in March, since last two years Fanfest was in October) -Also pretty close to fanfest venue (just a bit further than Hilton Nordica) -Tons of parking spaces just across the road -There's a 24/7-shop really close where you can also get some microwaved pasta for example
Cabin Hotel: -Cheapest choice in Fanfest packages -From what I heard, the rooms are pretty small -As far as I remember, there's a Subway or some other kind of fastfood just across the road

I am flying to seattle and then to iceland from that point and with hotel the trip is still around 1500 CAD. so add on some spending money and come on down!
