Check if you are in windowed mode (might not work then... ?) or if your graphics card drivers are overwriting the program. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

You have to setup in your video graphics driver control panel and switch antialiasing for Eve to "controlled by the application" or something like that.
And yes, looks amazing.

Old NVIDIA cards don't support HDR + AA as they're set to use the same buffer space which ends up with one thing over-writing the other. This usually ends up being HDR, as AA is usually always calculated right at the end of the render pipeline. You used to be able to force it at times, but it would be messy, and could BSOD - there's just no real way to make it work unless you do rendering in a VERY unoptimised way.
All ATI cards that support HDR, can do AA at the same time due to them using different buffer registers (I can't remember off by heart, but I believe HDR is 00x48 and AA is 00x12). ---

i'm running eve on an HD5770 with core i7 920 and 6gb pc12667... eve runs great at 1680x1050 so i'm wondering how people think it will do with AA turned on?
out of any game i've ever played, it seems like Eve would benefit the most from AA, but turning it on always has such a huge impact on performance... i like things to look pretty dammit!

Got AA to work here now, with new drivers.
Hardly any performance hit and its looking much better, but minmatar ships are still jaggering on the small antenas.

Already got a topic on this but does everyone see horrible shadows now in comparison to the awesome AA? Possible they couldn't adjust the shadows for AA too? can't believe that... --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. I dont think they are related at all. They could have updated the shadow maps though... The problem is that only ccp knows how much of an impact this would have on performance.

Oops, yes of course your right, shadow maps.. guess since they haven't done it, it would indeed hit performance :( --------------------------------------------- Francis Wolcott: "I am a sinner that does not expect forgiveness. But I am not a government official."

<-- No AA ---------------- ; ---------------- Max AA ---> (click any of the tiny thumbnails for big image)
And when I say "max AA", that's using control panel settings to "enhance" the settings of the EVE client to the maximum the video card was capable of (for me, that was 32CSAA). _

You will still get some jagges due to EVE's floating camera which is constantly changing the angle on your ship and other objects. If you want to make it look really nice you need to force SSAA in your gpu but prepare for intense fps drops.

The above "max AA" screenshot (which isn't THAT much of an improvement over the no-AA one) is made with these settings:
What else other than that could you possibly want to add/alter ? No, seriously, please tell me, what other options are there that could lead to a better visual result, I am really curious to try them out.
P.S. This worked even before the in-client AA support, all I changed was from "override" to "enhance". _

Think you misunderstood me, I was making a reference to what else you could want/add. MLAA makes the text in-game hard to read due to the way it works (applied via Direct Compute during the shader compute). That's the only way you'll get better image quality (and it's only available on newer ATI cards at the moment (5 + 6 series). ---

For me, the difference in graphics is negligible. Things look a bit sharper, but it's almost imperceptible in normal gameplay, even with 1680x1050 res.
On the other hand, the FPS hit is anything but imperceptible, and just looking at a planet can drop me down to 15fps with full AA on.
Benefits don't outweigh the costs for me, I'll keep playing without it.

When you've got a GPU that can do high pass AA, you'll notice the difference - especially at high FPS (when you can see the jaggies move - MOVE!). ---

Yeah - shadows are HORRIBLE. Turn Shader Quality to low, and the shadows go away (for me at least, Geforce 9800 GT). Looks REALLY good after that. Shadows are stupid anyway.
If you really want to see the difference in the AA settings, pull out a drake, put all the settings to low (so there's less to distract you), then cycle through the AA settings, then turn the other crap back up when you're done. I settled on 8XQ - with all the other crap on high (except shader because of the shadows). - NB |

You said the same thing in another thread. But let me ask you this, do you usually shoot somebody in the head when you want to kill a fly that landed on their temple ? If you hate shadows so much, why don't you disable them from the ah-so-arcanely labeled "Shadows Enabled" checkbox instead ? _

I'm using a Macbook and (of course) I can't toggle anti-aliasing. It gives me the option of "Disabled" and nothing else. Is this because Macs just naturally suck or because my graphics card is insufficient?

Originally by: Incursions 1.0 patch notes Anti-aliasing is unfortunately disabled on the Mac client at the moment. We are working hard to get the anti-aliasing feature enabled in our Mac client in a future release.
