RIP destroyers, you no longer have use in game. you were great salvage ships but now we have a salvage ship. You have served many of us well over the years. May you rest in piece in our hangers.

So how many hours do you have to salvage to afford the new ship, let alone make a profit compared to keeping a Destroyer? Does the extra salvage speed translate in more isk per hour or just a slight convenience? To me at least it seems like in mission running its more economical to keep using the Destroyer.

I rememeber when getting your first destroyer was a milestone. Now they're just handed out. -

It depends, I guess. When I started, I leisurely went through level 1 & level 2 missions over the span of about 6 months and collected all the salvage. When I sold it all (planned on making rigs, but changed my mind), I sold it all for about 400 million isk - which I have since spent (seems to happen whenever I get any isk )
I spent quite a while getting close enough to tractor the wrecks, so use of the Noctis will be convenience & speed more than anything else. I am, however, not going to get one until they drop in price. I'll continue using my dessie for now.

i dont know about anyone else, but i am just happy to have the extra tractor beam range.
i hate having to chase down random wrecks around the grid because the NPCs decided to be a pain instead of all coming into a nice 20km bubble around me.
its not like they where going to win anyways, jerks :P
for me it was totally worth the 160mil i dropped on the ship

Don't worry! There's still use for destroyers.
Those Hulks sitting in High sec in an NPC corp... Soooo complacent. Punish them in a destroyer for.... I don't know... existing!
Fun fact, a destroyer can evade faction police, if you're sec status is at -10 I'd like to see a Battlecruiser do that as easily. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Destroyers? Hell, I've been using a Golem as a salvage ship. At least now I can sell the damn thing and buy the new salvage ship and a GTC.

Why RIP destroyers.
They were never meant as salvage boats but as anti-frig ships (although bit useless in deep 0.0). Destroyers are versatile and can be thrown in any different kind of role. There primary use will prolly be l1-2 mission runners and second step mining ships.(first being mining frigs)

IIRC Destroyers were introduced in 2006.
Doesn't change the fact that they are useless now, except maybe as a "stepping stone" towards getting a Noctis. |

R.I.P ?
I think not, nothing kills pods and tacklers better than the trusty "Fleet-Cormorant".
Defiling the Destroyer with your empire ways is nothing short of disgusting.
Get out.

The Noctis is easier to train for iircà so not even that.
Maybe a stepping stone in terms of gathering the cash to buy one, though, but that's it. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Edited by: Terrance O''Conner on 02/12/2010 13:35:35 2005 "Cold War" had dessies. Proberly introduced in that update. (joined game late 2005 during this version, and dessie was there, not sure if it existed b4 - i take it they didn't).
oh, and dessies still have a place - still very viable frig killers (just hope there's only 1 frig )

It is pathetic that nobody has managed to post the correct year/expansion that destroyers were introduced.
It was in November 2004, in the EXODUS patch. With them came battlecruisers and mining barges.
