I have a small Industry corp and getting tired of having to wait 2 weeks to 2 months for research slots. Since we are still grinding away faction status we can't set up a high sec POS yet so looking at a temp low sec research POS in the mean time. Is this a good idea? I've been stockpiling enough fuels and other stuff to keep the POS going for 2 months.

bad idea . if you have a small pos in lowsec, it'll eventually get shot down. why not just start a new corp, hire a standings guy to raise standings and have him anchor the pos in hisec. cost is like 150M-250M.
or just have your corp join a Research Alliance (saw one in the recruitment forum) and you can access their lab slots. -----------------

Hire a standings guy? Never heard of that. Where would I look for someone like that?
Thanks for the info BTW. I'm new to this part of EVE.

I often wondered why we had all three categories for roughly the same thing. anyway...

That would probably be us. We have a lot of free slots for rent in Amarr space at the moment. We're also looking for tower owners in Gallente and Minmatar space. EveMail this char if you're interested.

This is what I did and it was easy and (comparatively) cheap. I was grinding missions, but the service allowed us to POS immediately.

Don't be afraid of losec.
Just don't set up on a busy pathway - look at DOTLAN for a while, and look for a backwater system with a station, a decent number of unimportant moons, and less than 150 jumps over 24 hrs. It shouldn't be too far from hisec unless you have a good team to scout haulers in/out. Then once you have some choices, go there, and sit in local and watch traffic during the various peak times, and over a weekend. If it's quiet enough, it's probably a good spot.
Examples of places like this: Ravarin or Basgerin in Sinq Laison. Make sure you stand a couple guns up on the POS so it's at least basically defended, don't put all your eggs in there ever, and make sure it never goes offline.
I know a corp that has done this successfully for several years, so you just have to be aware.

If your not doing moon mining, its not worth putting up a pos in low sec, just use one in high sec.

Finally desided to take it down myself since got standings temporarely to anchor highsec towers. Examples of places like this: Ravarin or Basgerin in Sinq Laison. +1 for this. I had small pos for 6 months in lowsec. Basicly tower, couble labs, few guns and office in system on npc station. none ever even bothered to attack on it. Ok i usually did suplly runs for it off the peak hours, but still. Not all lowsec is equal either.
