The only reason it wouldn't work would be if they're not using the same device, which will make me very angry as I won't sleep for a few more days trying to find out wtf.
:edit: I've also reviewed the new signature with the vendor and compared it to packet traces and we're both on the same page. The theory is sound and the one instance I've been able to see it tested in has validated its authenticity. I wish I could contribute more here but I have no insight into other people's networks so I'm doing a lot of shooting in the dark here.
Unless I logged in through a freak act of nature, it looks like WPI has applied the update and things are working again here. Thanks!

Hey guys we said the latest this should be fixed is Monday. That's when the vendor pushes the updated signatures to their clients (your schools)
ohhh didn't realise it was a push. i thought netops would have to do it themselves and they're too lazy to be bothered
*Most* of the time people running those appliances (provided they are relatively new) and other things of that nature (spam filtering appliances etc) get the equipment with a contract for updates and the updates are automatically loaded on intervals. Now a days it's pretty rare if it's a manual process.

I am on a campus network and my connection was horrible since the patch. Just horrible. I saw this post and showed it to my IT department today. I went out to the bar and just came back and my connection is perfect now. I assume they updated their "whitelist" even though they had no idea what that was. Good call Fallout.

Edited by: Josephine Kahram on 04/12/2010 02:42:18 Edited by: Josephine Kahram on 04/12/2010 02:35:51 I am not on any kind of campus network, but I am connecting from South Korea, and I am experiencing some of the same issues reported here.
Very sluggish response at times (10 seconds or so to get a scan result from directional, for example--or even no response at all from the button being pushed, warps failing to initiate, VERY slow grid loading in low-populated systems, etc, all mixed in with occasional socket closings).
These particular effects have not happened before and nothing has changed on my end. Could these be related to this particular issue, even though I'm not on a campus network? Or is it possibly something else? According to pingplotter, packets are occasionally dropping beginning at a eurorings.net hop (which is quite far from my local area) and continuing somewhat at a couple of hops closer to the server, including the final one. This makes me think perhaps something else is the issue.. |

I'm also having this issue even though I'm using my own network. It started at Incursion launch.
I'm in Sydney, Australia. Someone down the street from me is also having this problem.

For those outside the US having problems, seeing as Eve traffic was being flagged as bittorrent traffic, you might want to run this test to see if torrent traffic in general is being blocked on your network. It might help you figure out if it's because of anti-torrent filtering, or something else.

Psychosomatic.
The issues that are covered in this thread have nothing to do with normal server traffic. The issue only circled around authenticating accounts when they log in. Once the login handshake is done, nothing is really affected. It's simply the first handshake that was being blocked. If you were able to log in at all the past few days you were not being affected by these issues.
Sadly, my idiot set of tech support at my Uni won't apply a patch specifically for one student. If any one at Kent State is able to, lets flood the ResNet service with support tickets until they do... ------------------ I'm not sure if my eyes are actually bleeding, or if it's merely my brain bleeding out through my eye sockets, but either way, it hurts to read what you just wrote |

What, the tech department won't keep their network software up to date? Well then maybe you shouldn't be talking to the tech department... :) - Don't let the trolls stop you from giving a helpful reply. :) |

Can this problem also affect internet cafes in sweden? Me and some friends that play together in an internet cafe in sweden are finding the client unplayeble since patch. We cant play the game at all, it laggs massible and we get disconected from the server every hour or so. It does not mather if local is 5 or 500. sometines it responds fine and other times we have delays for minutes.

I also have a problem like this i think.
When i login it takes like 1min to go from when i have selected teh char to get in the station and see chat windows. when im in space and i jump a gate it takes like 10-20secs to load grid with only me in system and there is normal traffic in this region/system.
When i use my drones they can take up to 20sec to respond on my command, and my moduls can cycle with only 3 people in local and they dont have this "lag". and after sometime my client crashs with socket error.
Today it did it when i tried to undock, then it crashed.
i live in sweden and my internet provider is bahnhof. My fps is 60 on best performence settings and i have a high end pc. Reinstalled the clients and related folders two times have not changed a thing.
I have made a petition to see if the problem can be resolved in some way or just some helpfull pointers, guess the problem is my internet provider and ccp server connection between those two. If someone have the ip address maybe i can ping it to see?

So is this problem only limited to schools? I'm using my own internet provider (AT&T - Bellsouth) near Asheville, NC and having socket closing problems. I can log into both TQ and Singularity just fine, however all my clients on separate computers are crashing at the same time every 5 minutes or so. It seemed very strange to me as my internet has been working very well otherwise.

Edited by: Mingus Insano on 05/12/2010 08:53:01 Well I take back what I said. When I came back and it was running fine--I believe that was because everyone on my campus was gone (briefcase school), thus not using the network. I am close to Silverfox861's location (WCU) in case there's a locational issue to note. Otherwise, I'm waiting until Monday rolls around to see if the IT "update" occurs.
I also wanted to mention that when these issues started to occur, I attempted to reinstall Eve. That's when I found out that the automatic installer will not work due to connection issues. I then tried the full manual install, which due to other issues did not work either. It downloaded but crashed at the end of the install, so I manually extracted it with WinRAR...

Yeah, I know. They have stated that they will do one of two things:
1) not update a server for one person when it's working for everyone else 2) they will update it, but they need to "Thoroughly test" the emergency patch. Which will take a few weeks.
I've given up on their bull**** excuses. I'm going to server support tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, petitioning for housing grievance. ------------------ I'm not sure if my eyes are actually bleeding, or if it's merely my brain bleeding out through my eye sockets, but either way, it hurts to read what you just wrote |

Dear CCP.
It is totally unplayable now.
It doesn't matter how the fantastic update you have done, but quite a few people cannot keep playing as before.
If you cannot sort out this problem with incursion I am still fine with previous Tyrannis patch.

Not a college guy here, on personal network (virgin is ISP), but get issues others have mentioned... closed sockets, huge system load times, unresponsive drones/mods/warp requests. It could be virgin ofc, they have really gone down the toilet recently, but it does seem like a coincidence. IDK, wil try to figure out who's end is screwing up and why.
Good to see CCP sreegs doing his best to get it sorted for the guys in Uni.. could you find out if recent patch has chaged the way regular ISP are regarding Eve traffic too ? After you've got to sleep at some point you poor bugger :)

See if this works - Open your client, and just let it sit there for 10 minutes, then log in. So far, it's worked every time for me, even though if I try to log in immediatly after starting the client, it fails every time.
Don't ask me to explain it, I only know that it works for me.

I have contacted bahnhof and it seems they are indeed running a DPI. Since CCP don't want to mention the name of that filter for certain reasons, i will not do it either, but the name starts with "Pr" if that can help CCP identify this. I guess this is the one CCP found? I have asked bahnhof to update their filter and i'm awaiting results. It seems these updates are released every second monday, and last one was 22 november, so the next regular update should be today anyway. I have checked the download site and at the time of writing, the new filter update is not yet available for download. The out-of-cycle update is not publically available on their site. Because of time-zone differences, it's possible they don't get the update until tuesday if they are to do it within normal working hours.

Seriously, we don't need incursion if we can't play normally. 1 week has passed and there is nothing change.
If you can't fix this CCP, can you just roll back to Tyrannis please? Or you are just going to ignore these quite a few player? |

I'm playing from Brunei, and I too have the socket is closed problem. It does indeed have something to do with it being flagged as BiTorrent data because my ISP only allows it past midnight my time. So at least I can play late at night, but I prefer the option to play the game earlier, or at all times.
I'm sure it is Tuesday for the traffic shapers you mentioned. Have they updated their systems?
If no, can you give us an update when they do that? Then if we still get problems, we can rule this out and see what else could be causing us problems.
