So here is the scoop, an experienced Wormhole operator was telling me that when salvaging sleeper sites that higher skills and t2 salvagers produce better salvage. Further more he stated that the smaller the ship (destroyer, cruiser) produces better salvage then larger ships (BCs). I say hes full of crap but he said he has tested this over days of salvaging in a destroyer vers. BC and contends that it really does effect salvage value.

Doesn't some salvage require T2 salvagers to actually salvage it or is that just hacking/Archaeology?

Unless that was added in, or in c5-c6 WHs. T2 salvagers should just increase the range and the success chance(success chance being finding out if there was something in the wreck or if there was nothing on the wreck. NOT increase the chance of getting salvage). Everything should be able to be salvaged with just L4 salvaging.
Analyzers and Codebreakers are only for profession sites such as some magnometric sites and radar sites. There are "cans" which require you to use the codebreaker/analyzer to access.
As for the OP sounds like your "experienced WH Operator" was either lying to you or doesn't know any better then you.

Posting to confirm a higher salvaging skill only makes it quicker, its still the same random chance to drop the good stuff. Sometimes my corp mate with level 2 salvaging will salvage our wrecks and he sometimes gets more nanoribbons that i do with a salvager 2.

The salvage parts in the wreck are pre-ordained into said wreck by the server (at random) when the wreck spawns. No amount of kicking, screaming, giving CCP the middle finger, or use of any fancy-or not-so-fancy ship will change it. Your skills and implants only make things go faster, which is very important in 4-4 when you are competing with 20 others for 1 wreck.

LOL at Torijacid's "experienced Wormhole operator".
Err...yes, and spinning around three times while chanting Nanoribbons also increases the chance of better salvage. Also, the alignment of Mars and Jupiter, and whether you've broken any mirrors in the last 7 years.
p.s. Don't the Class 5-6 Sleeper Battleships require Salvaging V, or salvage 4 + salvage tackles or implants to open the wreck?

Salvaging skill only increases the chance per cycle of successfully salvaging the wreck. The only known factor influencing what is salvaged is the type of wreck itself.

To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mission to salvage The wrecks and loots of mindless mission grinding, Or take Noctis against the sea of wrecks, And through post-mission salvage? To profit in sleep.
Salvage tackle and T2 salvagers increase salvage chance per cycle. The Noctis reduces cycle time. Ultimately you collect more salvage per unit time, but not more salvage per wreck. Salvage is chance based, which being a statistical instead of deterministic mechanism lends itself easily to reporting bias, confirmation bias, and exclusion bias.
The only way to prove that using different gear changes the quality of salvage is to salvage the same wrecks a few hundred times over.
