Hi Folks.
Firstly I'll say hi to all you fellow 'macers'
I've got a Mac Pro, Intel 2x2.66 Ghz dual core processor system with 12gb ram I use for work and partly for gaming (eve).
The PC system i just got rid of had an Nvidia 9800 9800GT 512Gb ram (PNY OEM). I used to get over 80-100 fps with full detail and Interval Intermedia set in windows 7 *yuck*.
However this card is an nVidia 5300 Chipset Model:NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Type:Display Bus:PCIe Slot:Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width:x16 VRAM (Total):256 MB Vendor:NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID:0x0393 Revision ID:0x00a1 ROM Revision:3008
I wanted to get an upgrade for it so I can turn all the detail level on and get the 'full' experience, and was looking at the following cards..
ATI radeon HD 2600 XT or
ATi Radeon HD 4870 512MB
Has anyone got either of these cards and advise me what they're like ( i'm thinking of running two displays, one 20" and my 22.5" vision-master for eve.
Any advise or
(anyone got an 9800 GT nvidia working on Leopard or snow Leopard? )

That is like asking, which car is faster?
A Ferrari or a moped
The 4870 is still one of the fastest cards out there. The 2600 is HORRIBLE and alot older.
If you can't use a 5870, try a 5770, unless you have a way to get a 4870 as they haven't been available in about a year.

Go for the 4870. the 5870 probably wount work in your mac pro since it has to be a 2009 model for that card to work (something to do with the bus speed on the slot the card uses)
im currently using a dual quad core, 2,80 ghz, 32gb ram, Ati 4870 gfx running on a 30" cinema display. Getting good performance, but havent measured the fps. "Insert witty comment here" |

This thread on macrumors is a fairly decent source with more info on that: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1002692
