either ship has a lot of potential to make people back off. I think many Bship pilots would approach either of those ships with caution. I guess the Deimos is a more agile ship, what with the lack of MWD fitting penalty...
Oh, and I think the deimos can maintain a better armor tank than the cerberus could hope to match, with shields OR armor really, but the cerb probably has more damage overall.

Edited by: Neon Genesis on 14/01/2005 00:23:37 Well Diemos is insanely powerful, its quite possible to throw out blasterthron-like dmg and maintain a nice cap and tank.
Sumthing about the cerberus appeals to me tho, looks pretty nasty
I'm tryin to make the same choice myself __
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread

If you fit out the Deimos with a balanced setup, and liberal doses of T2 equipment, it's a terrifying ship. Basically, anything that doesn't use missiles (Raven) or cap-killers (Dominix) is in serious danger, because under 10Km its signature radius and speed make it very, very hard to hit with BS-class weapons, even blasters (especially thanks to it kinetic/thermal resistances).
As for anything smaller than a HAS or BS, you can pretty much kiss your ass goodbye if you let one get close, because they'll out-tank you and chew you to pieces. I'd go for the Deimos

I would suggest the Cerberus for solo pvp - especially if you are going up against BS. Fit yourself to sit at around 25 - 30km (yes, get a good warp disruptor), and do not get within Nosferatu range.
My reasoning:
Heavy assaults have capacitor as their main weakness. They have high resistances and loads of damage potential, but if they are hit with a couple of Nosferatus they will die.
A corpmate of mine in a Sacrilege went up against a Tempest running 6 x 800mm Tech2 guns. He was able to tank the damage ok, but when the Tempest started with 2 x Heavy Nos the fight was over - the Sacrilege would have died very quickly as it was out of cap.
My experience in a Scorpion vs an Ishtar was much the same. He tanked my damage (4 x siege) ok, but after 20 or 30 seconds my 2 Nosses had him out of cap. Dead Ishtar.
So if you want to go solo against battleships in a HAC, keep at range, and watch out for Nos -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

My Cerberus has large 'peroxide' cap battery in mids and can MWD (especially with Domination 10Mn) indefinitely while dealing pretty much the full amount of damage it is capable of, and it's faster than a Deimos, too. Replace that MWD with AB, with two kinetic hardeners on, and a medium shield booster running nonstop (it can), and this thing will take a lot of punishment before going down, at least from those ships that only deal kinetic and thermal dmg. Oh, and don't forget that medium nosfer it can fit in that utility slot.

I believe that cerberus is heavier than deimos.....so with the mwd/ab on the deimos will be faster, imo.

True - but then the Deimos can just turn around and run the other way and warp out, or any moderately fast ship for that matter!
I prefer the Deimos because, with all blaster-rigs, if you pick your targets carefully and engage - it's not getting away. I must admit though, I do really like the Cerberus too - and if it didn't take another month to train, I'd get one to compliment the close-range ability of my Deimos. But when you crash into your target with everything blazing, watching them dissolve before your eyes is very satisfying!

OK this might be a sacriligious idea but I am going to throw it out anyways. Why not use rails on a deimos? You still get the insane damage mod and that way you can stay out of nos range too. And to make sure that they cant get to you have a mwd on board. I havent tried fitting on all this stuff as I am still looking for a decent deal on a deimos to buy.

No, it's perfectly valid - I know of people who use Rails with the massive falloff bonuses, but if you're gonna want to fit something meaty like 250mm IIs and a MWD in the med-slots, you're low-slots won't be as tough - and if a close-range Deimos catches you, quite obviously you've had your chips! The blaster-rigged Deimos setups usually have high enough cap-recharge rates to run the MWD forever, so if they come chasing after you with you firing guns and burning MWD - you're in trouble!
It's certainly something to consider if just for PvE, but in general a lot of fights I'm involved in take place at close range anyway, so the blaster-rigged Deimos works perfectly well.

Hehe - I was thinking more along the lines of a Deimos Vs a Cerberus. But yes I'll admit flying a blaster-boat is high risk, but when has it been any different?

Have you considered the Ishtar.
I have both a Deimos and a Ishtar and i put my deimos up against a corp m8's Ishtar and lets put it this way i was in a lot of **** very fast. As a result i went out and found myself a ishtar for myself.
With 3 Tech 2 250mm rails and 15 Heavy drones you are looking at some pretty nice damage and you can have a totally awsome tank. On top of this you dont have to get in nos range at all
I still love my Deimos but i find myself picking my ishtar to fly over my diemos

id take the diemos, since its dmg output with t2 ions is about 2,4x the cereberus with arabalest heavy launchers and max skills. --------------------------

by the time i have the reqs, T2 Missile stuff will be out. something to think about. so definately training cal cruiser V
cerebus with 5x bcs, hac V and launcher op V has RoF +60% and missile speed +90%. you could warp in at 60km and have so many missiles in the air by the time anyone reaches you... RoF is so hot
couple that with bcs T2 and heavy launcher T2 and you're spitting out 5 missiles every 8 seconds or less.

most frigates can outrun heavy missiles even with 50% speed boost. You can carry a webber, then you'll get a few missiles in, the enemy will get out of range for a while to dodge missiles.
If you are jumped by 2 frigates, your cerberus would be really in trouble. You may be able to tank them for a while but you'll run out of cap eventually. You could try fitting 2 webs and use both on same frigate to hold it down long enough for missiles to kill.
Damage wise, 5 launchers aren't that powerful, you'll have trouble against other HACs if you get in their optimal range.

If the fights are in familiar territory (where you've got bookmarks strategically placed), I'd simply go with an Eagle. Look at its bonuses -- plus the insane ranges it can lob Antimatter with 250mm II's.

Deimos is probably a better ship. Not only does it's damage potential with T2 guns look scary, but it also has room for drones. The Cerberus doesn't have any drone space, which is a bit unbalanced, and unless you pack it's lows with BCS's it damage output isn't amazing. On a positive note the Cerberus looks bloody cool with it's camo paint job. |

Edited by: VossKarr on 15/01/2005 07:58:37 Now let's not compare a T2 ship that is equipped with T2 guns which are getting damage bonuses from T2 skills (talking about specializations here) with another T2 ship equipped with T1 launchers. After looking at some preliminary stats and applying Cerberus' bonuses and some new (hopefuly) skills: 1 2 3 I've come to the conclusion that this ship will be a force to be reconed with for other HAC.
Edit: don't forget that a Tech2 Ballistic Control System will increase DMG output of the Cerberus, too.

cerberus also gets 10% bonus flight time per level. so at level IV HAC that's missile range of 100.8 km (higher with new skills). cerebus' base targeting range is 80km, plus long range targeting V that's 100km targeting range
warp in at 60km, start flying away, fill the air with missiles. by the time they reach you or your cap runs out, you've thrown out thousands of HP worth of damage
you guys are missing the Cerberus' range advantage

for solo cruiser PvP id go with a sacrilege. they can kill any cruiser and heavy assault cruiser, i know this cause ive fought demios and cerebus with a sac. i was able to tank the damage of a demios long enough for my missles to kill it and the cerebus just didnt do enough damage to break my tank. my tank consisted of 1 50% thermal hardener, 1 1600mm plate and a medium T2 armor rep. just dont go after BSs or some heavy tanked BCs cause you dont have the damage out put for them.

That Deimos must have had a crappy set-up (ie. only the standard 10% exp resistance etc.)... I can't see how you could kill one with three Heavy Launchers, unless you were using three med Nos on him and he was using none on you.

deimos = rail or blasters = thermal and kinetic damage
cerberus = missiles = all sort of damage
stand with ur deimos against a enemy wel tanked vs thermal and kinetic , and u are screwed ...
like vs my eagle , its thermal and kinetic are so high , that i wouldnt even feel the blasters or rails from a deimos a dominix fired upon me , he did about 10 damage each shot

Well, right now, Deimos outclasses the other HAC's in every way except the Sacrilege for its tanking, the Zealot for its long range damage, and the Cerberus for its ability to completely change the damage type.
Comparing the Deimos and the Cerberus is interesting. Overall I would pick a deimos for sheer gank power, but the Cerberus really is excellent for patrols and still does a fair amount of damage. If the two were locked in combat and they were both skilled pilots, I'd put my money on the cerberus to win due to the ability to change damage type and fight at medium or long range without gimping its setup for short range.
Of course, the fact that the Deimos has drones sure helps its damage.

im sure he thought the same thing. he did nos me but the sac thas a nice cap and recharge. also the sac is as fast enough to keep range to the demios its 5m/s faster and is only 115T heavier. it has that 10% laser optimal range bonus too, i striped its shields with my lasers then "ran out of cap for my MWD" to let him close and then we webbed each other and scrambled one another and i came out on top.

So you did have lasers too.
I wasn't saying it's impossible to kill a Deimos in a Sacri, I was saying it's impossible to kill a Deimos with just three Heavy Launchers unless it has a bad set-up (the "long enough for my missiles to kill it" bit).

both ships are just real beauties... but if u loose ur ship sometimes to unfair number you got ganked etc.. it¦s sometimes better if u choose the distance... and btw.. how long do u wait for a BIG deimos ... 2.9 years ?? and the death will find no rest |
