Edited by: Spruillo on 06/12/2010 19:58:54 Hello Im starting out in FW and want to get my feet wet by running missions which as I understand it combines the pvp by being in enemy space
So my first idea is running a keres with main, and a retribution with alt The problem I see with this (not that I have any experience) is that first the keres will be on dscan/seen jumping into systems anyway, anyone raiding my mission will/should be prepared to deal with it
The second is I doubt the keres will help much with mission it will be dead weight unless someone shows and I need to lock them down for the retri. What level missions can I comfortably handle with a retri anyway?
Are these valid enough issues to **** on my parade? What other combo would yall suggest if so.
Alt is perfect energy turret gunnery/zero missile skills amarr hulls 5 up to BC. Main can do Gallente cov ops/ stealth bomber/ elec att. frig. but could fly assault or interceptors soon and has decent scout drone skills.

The tired and true method of FW mission running is with an Interceptor and Stealth Bomber. The Interceptor grabs aggro and speed tanks everything while the Stealth Bomber kills the main target(s). If any hostiles come in, the SB cloaks and the Inty burns off. Later, if you get good enough, you can actually ditch the Interceptor and solo the mission in an AB-fit Stealth Bomber.
Other people have used the Caracal/Cerberus, Sentry-fit Ishtar, or a medium range Zealot/Muninn to complete their missions as well. However, using such larger ships makes you a bit more vulnerable to roaming gangs and smaller ships. _______________________

Stealth Bomber / Inty combo is the way to go. As long as you're paying attention you're basically invincible. It's really quite broken and one of the many things I don't like about FW in general, but that's the way it is. Might as well farm the easy LPs if you can.

The problems with using a Daredevil are that 1) you'll have a bullseye on your head (more so than usual) and 2) Daredevil setups usually employ close range weaponry which requires you to go into the thick of the rat horde (increasing the odds that you will be 'locked down' by the NPCs).
No, 'range' and 'high DPS' are your friends. _______________________

Not to argue but your being a little unfair on the DD first if faction missions are blitzable no prob even with rails and iridium for range still decent DPS Ive solo'd DED lv 3 and 4 sites, and even did a few lv 4 missions with them leading out frigs dealing with them then culling out faster cruisers chewing them up dipping out of range to pulse the faction rep then angling back in and then spending half hour taking out the BS's last and what I read is I gotta kill a cruiser or something, no prob with a DD.
And I have 1 DD loss burning back to gate out of bubble in 00 and not quite making it out of literally 100's hours in lo/nul/wspace in the past year ppl in lo/nul want to kill ANYTHING when they get the chance whether it's a DD or a rookie ship or a tengu and your gonna get called an idiot when you loose out no matter what you fly or how it's fit, f-them all I fly what works for me
Daredevils rock im gonna give it a go

To each his own. But I do foresee problems for you as FW missions are not like DED plexes. You usually have 1 or two BIG targets that you have to take out in such missions** before more faction rats spawn and/or War Targets and/or pirates come in. This is why the Stealth Bomber is preferred as it does significant damage vs. large targets thus allowing you to clear the mission faster and mitigate 'exposure' to hostiles (it takes less than 5 minutes for someone to come and interfere with your mission).
** FW missions are more akin to 'assassination' missions; one BIG, tanked target like a battleship, tower, or industrial(s) and all the other rats are just there to 'protect' it (i.e. they are not necessary to complete the mission).
edit: also, FW rats do not like to drift very far from where they started, drag them too far out and they will break off and burn back to their starting area. _______________________
