Well - I wanna buy a new PC (my current is 5 years old)
Bugdet is Ç2000-Ç2500, so money is not the problem. But i have a large problem with all this CPUs and Mainboards.
I want :
2x 1 Tb harddrives 8 GB ram 1 DVD 1 Standard Soundcard is fine
And now my problems start whats the diffents between Intel & AMD today. I think about the AMD 6 core maybe. Grafixcard go the same. I use NVida for like 20 years. What the diffent to Radeon ? What Rams are good. What mainboard is good. I doesnt need a DvD burner coz i have one and never used in 5 years. a UPS stick do the same job for me.
Some technicall update would be fine. ;-)

mobos, if going intel cpu's, it will depend on the gfx card. if going amd, I think they can run NV's, but run better with ATI.
ATI has good price/performance, same goes for cpu.
so if going intel cpu -> NV chipset mobo if Nvidia card or Intel chipset mobo if going ATI card. ---

Spend about half of that on hardware, and the other half of 30" lcd monitor.

1. What will you be using the computer for?
2. What range computer do you want? Mid, mid-high, high, ridiculously high? Because buying a Ç2000 every 5 years isn't as price/performance efficient as buying a machine, upgrading it with newer tech down the road, and buying a new one, etc... But again, if you don't care, whatever.
In terms of price-performance, AMD kicks the pants off Nvidia just about every time. If you want raw performance out of a single card with absolutely no regards to the price, then Nvidia is better, but two 5870s are probably a better bet.
Intel vs AMD is a pretty moot point. If you don't know if you're using multithreading or not, you DO NOT need more cores. Read: AMD 6 core is going to perform worse than a lesser cored processor.
Intels recent line of processors are pretty kickass, but IMO, for single core performance (MOST applications and games), AMD might be a better choice. This point is debatable as it's hard to find data on single core performance.
If you just want to buy an expensive processor, go with Intel.
I can provide specific components, if you want.

I would say high and memory for the next 5 years. so 8 GB and a graficcard with lots of mememory.

So AMD with ATI is a good way. In need this 2 TB on hard-draive but not sure if in 1x 2Tb ot is 2 x1TB better.

I'd go with an AMD 1055 hex core CPU... they are cheap and fast.
Get a semi decent 890 FX based motherboard as well.
spend a little to get semi decent ram, 4 x 2GB Dimms.
Have a look at the new 6870 video card from ATI, they are pretty nice, especially if you want to get another to run in Crossfire. NVidias new cards are really good too.
Spend most of your money on a monitor though, 30" or 27". Try to go for a 16x10 aspect ratio (2560 x 1600 OR 1920 x 1200). Dell have really good monitors.
Get a 2TB hard drive, and a 120GB SSD drive. They make booting up REALLY fast.

If I was to buy a gaming system for myself:
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-1000HX 1000W
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Mainboard: MSI 890FXA-GD70 RAM: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 Video: MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5 1536MB PCI-E x16 Hard Drives: Corsair Force CSSD-F120GB2 SATA II SSD and Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB SATA III 6Gb/s DVD: Lite-On iHDS118-04 (the DVD burner you already have should work fine as a DVD player too)
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30" 2560x1600 LCD Keyboard: Logitech K120 USB Mouse: Logitech MX 518 USB Gaming Mouse
Operating System: Win7 64-bit Home Premium
Final price: Around $3300 US. Could save around $900 by going with a 27" LCD.
Note: I'm perfectly happy with my Acer P235H 23" 1920x1080 LCD monitor, but somebody suggested a 30" so that's what I listed for you. ----- Ambush. Hit and run. Gank before tank. Speed is life. |

6870 is a midrange graphics card (due to AMD changing the name format), but it runs as good as the old 5850's, which are by no means a slouch. You made a good buy there! ---

well , it is 10 % slower then the best ZOTAC atm. And the 6870 is the first with the new 'Bart XT' GPU. There is no other 6000 atm. ;-(

I would definitely recommend canceling that 580W power supply and swapping it for a 750-800W. ----- Ambush. Hit and run. Gank before tank. Speed is life. |

Thats 600 W is the highest you can buy. ;-)
~150 W is the max on the CPU and the graficcard is ~150 W too. So 280 W for the rest.

Oh. You're paying somebody else to limit your choices and assemble the computer for you. Never mind then.
Too bad. Putting together your own computer is one of the most rewarding experiences a gamer can have. ----- Ambush. Hit and run. Gank before tank. Speed is life. |

Nope - the PC will need ~480 W max. The 580 W is a bit larger then needed, but it is a quiet one.
