A couple of weeks ago our corp had a hi-sec war. We set the pos up for full hardeners and ECM (24 ECM mods onlined) but no online guns.
When the WT corp warped to our pos to engage some of our pilots, our pos sat there and did nothing. Is this a normal feature of ECM? Does it only defend the pos when it's being attacked or when i set "Attack if at war" should our pos have attacked the WTs?

Edited by: Dasola on 10/12/2010 19:15:08 your pos will attack wartargets only if you set it so it does. Option you mentioned should be set active.
Pos will defend itself automaticly if its atacked.

Hmm. the option was set active.. Any idea on how long the targeting time is for pos?

E-War batteries are considered 'large' pos modules. Their targeting time is slooooooooow against anything smaller than capital ship. It's good idea to install 5-6 small guns as well. Their targeting time is roughly equal to the cruisers, so they should be able to lock even small stuff in about 30 seconds or so.
I once had low sec cyno POS, all small guns designed to do ~ 30 000 volley damage for popping cruiser sized targets that tackle the stuff jumping in and light the cyno for gankage arrival. It was able to do so in ~8 seconds after target decloaking. Real real pain to set up though. All those small guns take eternity to anchor and load with ammo. It was back when the anchoring times were a bit longer as well.
Oh and btw - all ECM POS is not so bright idea, as the attackers would hit it in sentry Domis and still reinforce it without having to really worry about the ECM. So 5-6 small guns and POS gunners to make the sentry drones 'go away' should they try it.

Edited by: MaXimUs23 on 10/12/2010 20:21:27 Rule of thumb is that small guns are cruiser and smaller, medium guns are battlecruiser and battleships, and large guns are battleship and capitol (Carriers and Dreads).
All ecm pos' are not smart, may want to rethink that and start telling some of your corp members to train up for pos gunning.

Cool, Thanks for the info.
It's not actually got a good amount of hardeners online for high resists and a fair few anchored for backup for when and if the ECM goes down. It's also in hi sec and the corp has the ability to get a small response fleet together to help with pos defense. We have a couple of pos gunners, but probably need more. I'll anchor some more small guns in preparation for the next war. However there's always a compromise, as small guns will do nothing if a pos bashing fleet were to land on it :(

Oh you just HAD to ask that didn't you...
Text equation:
T = (40000/X)/(asinh(Y)^2)
Where:
X = scan resolution of your ship Y = sig radius of the target T = the time to lock.
ECM Battery has a 50 mm scan resolution so:
25 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(25)^2) = 52 seconds 50 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(50)^2) = 37 seconds (Frigate) 75 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(75)^2) = 32 seconds 100 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(100)^2) = 28 seconds 125 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(125)^2) = 26 seconds 150 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(150)^2) = 25 seconds (Cruiser) 175 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(175)^2) = 23 seconds 200 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(200)^2) = 22 seconds 225 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(225)^2) = 21 seconds 250 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(250)^2) = 21 seconds (Battlecruiser) 275 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(275)^2) = 20 seconds 300 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(300)^2) = 20 seconds 325 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(325)^2) = 19 seconds 350 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(350)^2) = 19 seconds (Battleship) 375 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(375)^2) = 18 seconds 400 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(400)^2) = 18 seconds 500 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(500)^2) = 17 seconds 600 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(600)^2) = 16 seconds 700 m: (40000/50)/(asinh(700)^2) = 15 seconds

How do you know that the POS did nothing? AFAIK there is no graphical effect to ECM, so unless you're sitting in a ship that's actively being jammed (spies!), there is no way to visually check that. ___________

A Cruiser warped in and blew up a ship, he must have done it in a lesser amount of time the ECM takes to lock tho.
