I reactivated my account and though my char is not a complete noob - I am!
One thing I would like to do is be able to travel in lower sec space in relative safety while having a small amount of cargo room to carry a few goods.
So I need something fast and cheap in case I lose it. I dunno if it needs an kind of defensive modules to help it escape certain situations.
Maybe something simple that I can pilot now with basic skills and if you could give me an idea of an ideal blockade runner that I can train towards I would be very grateful

For lo-sec only?
Covops Cloak Y-T8 MWD, shield resist amps Expanded Cargohold IIs
Cargo Expander rigs
For 0.0:
Covops Cloak Y-T8 MWD, Cetus ECM burst 2x Warp Core Stabilisers, 0-2x Nanofiber IIs
Polycarb Engine Housing rigs.
Dont ever take the pure cargo rig fit in to 0.0.

Edited by: Aureus on 10/12/2010 21:49:00 covops cloak eh? sounds fun!
thats something I am going to need to work towards so thank you for that tip. can you describe how I would be using it?
what about something very simple I can use right now? whats the best frigate for this job or maybe a destroyer is better?
I would be using in low sec primarily - 0.1 - 0.4
and what are the better covops ships?

Edited by: Aureus on 11/12/2010 01:15:30 What modules help with lining up and initiating warp? Basically what helps you warp out of a place asap?
Or what skills?

Edited by: Julien Brellier on 11/12/2010 03:51:14 The modules that help align you faster are Inertia Stabilizers.
The use of a covops cloak takes timing. when you have jumped through a gate and are still under the 30 second gate cloak, click "warp to (destination)", and immediately hit the covops cloak module. With good timing, you will only appear to anyone sitting at the gate for a split second before cloaking again and warping off. Obviously, if they manage to lock you before you get your covops cloak turned on, you're pretty much toast. If you screw it up and DO get locked, this is where the previously suggested ECM burst comes in handy, to shake off any locks so you can run away.
The only ships that can use the covops cloak are Covops frigates, Blockade runners and Force Recon ships. combat recons cannot use the covert ops cloak

If you stick to low sec then the cov-ops cloak is all you need. Screw aligning. Once you cloak you're home free. They'll never decloak you in time for a lock unless you align like a carrier. Take it from a former pirate, cloaky haulers are nearly uncatchable. I say nearly uncatchable because there's the occasional slip-up where someone double clicks the module and decloaks themselves, much to my liking. Otherwise, I don't even both trying to lock them. If you create insta-undock points at the stations you use in low sec then you've covered all bases. Screw MWDs. Screw tank. Screw alignment mods and rigs. Cargo rigs, cargo lows, no mids, 1 cov ops cloak, done. Follow the golden rules of low sec and you'll survive every time(unless lag kills you, in which case no amount of mods/rigs will save you anyways).

Edited by: Culmen on 11/12/2010 08:13:31 0.0 on the other hand will require you to fit an MWD. Nothing kills more blockade runners then bubble camps.
Remeber, passive alignment is a myth. Look for the celestial that's closests to the edge of the bubble Hit-align->Cloak->MWD You'll have a second or two to engage your MWD after you activate your cloak. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

In order to warp from standing still position you need to get 75% of your max. speed in the direction to the object you warp to. This time is called "align time" in your EFT.
So, any agility mods decrease it and help you to warp out ASAP. Like inertia stabilizers, nozzle joint rigs, nanofibers, polycarbons, etc.
I use this:
[Prorator, New Setup 1] Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Medium Shield Extender II
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I
8258 m3 cargo, 4.6 sec aligh with MWD off.

I use a viator and like stated above there are two distinct fits for the runner according to usage. If in low sec you be alot more flexible and add cargo expanders rigs and in lows for more carrying space. They are pratically unatchable in low sec. I fly with no fear unless i have to undock at which point I set up a instant warp if I use the station alot. 0.0 I fit low friction nozzles for rigs that increase my warp speed ( so I can out run anything in the game if being chased, they will never catch me on the otherside of the gate with a 11.5 au warp speed and along with inertia stabilizers which doesent subtract from your cargo m3 but give you the speed and aligning boost your looking for.And lets not forget the all important MWD which is a must. Now if u do venture in 0.0 and find yourself ina buble upon jumping in look for the closest edge of bubble click a point in space immediatley hit ur cloak followed by ur mwd which will continue to boost you a complete cycle then change direction as soon as ur fully cloaked.
this technique prevent those insanly crazed interceptors with drones orbitting them from decloaking you. Because they are going to approach your last known position before you cloaked and continue outwards from there. Hope this helps

Note that inertia stabs increase your sig, thus helping you get locked and hit faster. I use nano'sfor that reason, if you are cached, you are dead, those few% hull won't help you. ------------------------------------- I like to fly around and shoot stuff.
