After testing out the new char generator for a number of times now, over different SiSi versions, i still have two main problems:
1. long hair options are severely limited. Currently there are 2 long hair styles, one of them is rastafarian which looks good, but is not what 'conventional' longhair fans want, while the other one looks like some pedophile guy to me for some reason. I'd really like to have true long hair styles (that is, longer then shoulder length), something like what the Intaki/Khanid males had in old char generator.
2. for final release it would need way more clothing options. Right now there are basically 5-6 kinds of uniforms and that's it. It doesnt even make much sense to mix and match them around, because most look best with their respective topouter/bottom pairings used together.

Ok have messed around a bit further. The female Jin-Mei model has had quite a change, the old Dominique can no longer be recreated. This was as close as I could get.
We really need to be able to adjust the intensity of the freckles, not just the amount of them.
The old shirt "bug" where the belly was visible will be missed. Can we get an option for short tops?
The new base model of the Achura female is very nice, as is the fix of the hair that before ended up by far too high. As you can see in that picture there are some minor clipping issues though as the hair vanish into the cheek.
Can we also have a few more eyebrow options and/or intensity slider?
As the glasses are available for all races, can we please have the metal skull implants "unlocked" as well?
Speaking of glasses, can we get like 2-3 base shapes and then just have a colour selector for the tint? I would love something like this.

OK I've tried to play around with the CC and here is my feedback. I'll separate it by usability and content, so if you know the current content is lacking you can easily ignore that part. I won't go in to details with the content, since you aren't looking feedback on it. I'm also focusing on negatives, so don't think the CC is crap just because I don't give complements on the good parts.
USABILITY
- The dark background makes it very hard to distinguish any details with dark parts like hair and clothes. You can change it later, but you need to be able to change it immediately, especially since there is no indication you can alter it later and it doesn't actually do much good to be able to change it for the better after you have finished creating the character.
- I would like to see an indication what selection I'm scrolling at. For example 4/25 would be nice to see, since the pictures are very similar at times, so it is hard to tell if I moved it or selected the same one twice and sometimes the pics don't correspond at all to the actual models.
- THE WHEEL SELECTION DOESN'T WORK!!! At all during lighting selection and badly with all other options. From experimenting it seems, that it works relatively fine if you wait for the selection animation to finish before you try to scroll forward. But if you dare to actually scroll through the selection at your own pace it gets stuck or repeats the selection it was already at. Point is that it sucks donkey balls and makes browsing the options a painful chore.
- Why does the selection wheels start at the middle? People will want to go through all the options, especially since the little pics don't correspond to how the actual model will look like, so it makes no sense not to start the selection at one end. Putting the selection in the middle just forces people to do loads of pointless scrolling with a srolling system that doesn't work.
- Why isn't the no eyebrow option one of the wheel options? I know there is a cross that removes them, but it isn't even a toggle. It seems like one of the normal options was given a special selection button separate from the others for no particular reason. Either make it a normal option or change the button to a on/off toggle.
- Colors in the selection don't correspond to the ones in the model. You might as well have just named them color 1, color 2, ect. if you don't make the correspond to actual changes in the model. This is a usability issue, since I have to go through all the options to see what the colors actually are, making the point of the preview system pointless and forcing me to do a huge amount of extra clicking and loading even if I already know what color I would want to select. This has to change.
- I don't like the location of the randomize buttons. You press them accidentally at times, when trying to open or close a selection tab. The CC history allows me to revert the changes quickly, but I still think you should think if you can figure out a better placement for the randomize buttons.
- Make the model stop moving when sculpting or provide a toggle to make it stop moving. Movement looks good, but makes using the CC a pain.
CONTENT
- Color options in general are very limited and boring in all areas.
- No actual scars(general scarring in the complexion option doesn't cut it), tattoos or any of the cool gadgets old portraits had.
- Model selection is very limited in almost all areas and so is the different styles of clothing. I know this is just a test system and showing all the options isn't exactly necessary, but at the moment the options available in almost all categories are weak(quality is good though) and few.

First off the new system is very good, i found it easy to sculpt once i got used to it and it gives a great feeling of customization. Aside from the issues already known i found no other problems.
Age My Toon is old, his RP is that he is old yet i found it very difficult to make an old looking Toon. The lack of White/Grey hair is one thing (easily fixed), the lack of old style hair cuts (give me a bald patch or better yet long hair with bold head! :) ) is another which i imagine would not be that hard to add. However it needs more, all the Toons look sort of 20-40 which is going to look a bit samey when we start walking about. Please have a look at the age aspect of the creations and see if there is more depth that can be added in this regard.
Weight Even as overweight as possible just seems gives a pot belly on a fit frame, much like the age issue i am concerned that we will end up looking very much the same. The difference between overweight and super skinny is too subtle, i am sure a proper fat character is much more effort but i wanted to bring up that i think there is much more scope for improvement in this regard. This would also be related to height, in previous versions we could adjust height, now we cant (or i could not find how!) and that again leads to a uniform nature that will be a bit disappointing when we start walking around. We need short fatties, we need tall skinny, etc etc. We need more scope for a larger variety of shapes to make recognizable characters and not just variations on the same theme.
On the whole all the Toons look too good, too perfect. Give us ugly, fat, overweight, asymmetrical etc etc so we can come up with some real looking Human Toons and not just a bunch of pretty boys (or girls).
Thats my 2 cents, btw i think its bloody good already but there is always scope for improvement!

Usability:
- The Char Creation UI is rather laggy, but i reckon it will be fixed when the whole thing goes live. - Scrolling through the different options (hairstyles, for example), is quite painful: different options often don't scroll at all, or get stuck after 2 or 3 styles, or the result is a zoom/dezoom on the character (rather than a scroll through customization options). Maybe it's because of the lag, i don't know. - Although it certainly gives a feeling of "life", the endless movements of the character when i try to morph it can be somewhat annoying. - Some features don't seem to be working (yet): hair color offset, for example. If they do work, then it's difficult to see an actual difference between the different values. - In portrait mode: it's currently impossible to center correctly the character in the middle of the portrait. The character always end up somewhat low on the screen, and doesn't fill the portrait at all. As a result, there's a large space above his head and the character himself only fills a small part of the picture. What's the point in designing such beautiful characters if they end up unable to be contemplated? . That one would be the one real big issue i think is remaining with this char creator. - What does that "History" bar mean?
Content:
- Morphing possibilities are huge already. Complexions bring a ton of possibilities, although it's true characters always seem somewhat young, even with age maxed out. - A few more hairstyles would be welcome, although there's already plenty. I'm thinking about the Intaki's long hair, for example. - Minmatar definitely need facial tattoos, since these are so important in their culture. - Amarr definitely need their hoods, for their slave-trading purposes. Sneaky ones. - More clothing options would be welcome, otherwise i suspect everybody's going to hang out with a t-shirt and a sleeveless jacket...
I don't know if it's meant to be implemented, but an option to switch from one of the four selected portraits for a given character would be awesome.
Overall, this character creator truly is impressive. Keep up the amazing work!

Edited by: Deliceous on 18/12/2010 16:57:37 Can you put a "Back to default" choice in each of the selections, for cloths. Like Had the guy wearing Glasses but realized the changes I did to the beard didn't look good with glass, I would like to remove glasses.
For the auto saving option is there a key I can turn it off or a key I can hold down to disable it. When I am just playing around the auto safe feature becomes annoying, Though Having it on at start is good for the first time using it but second character it becomes less desirable.
When on the pulling portion of the character ie adjusting waste size, is it possible to off to the side to show directions I can move the mouse to make changes. For example: For the waist I was moving the mouse up and down didn't get any changes, only when Moving it left or right did the stomach grow from side view or the Girth Increase from the front view.
Other wise looking good Will be interesting to be living in a world were not everyone is SEXY looking like City Or Heros or other games with advanced customization. Will make the game look more realistic. Though there are Goons who will try and stand out... I am wondering if there will the Fashion Police out there. Ie Jita Station: - No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service. - Hey the They have to Run a Civilized Station otherwise the big dollars won't come. If you want more freedom on what to wear or not to wear go to Low Sec. There they let anyone set foot on the Station.

Okay, well I went and spent about five hours on my two accounts making characters (all female of course).
Ease of use -- 7/10 I was able to do most of what it expected me to do. Granted, there were some times where I just wasn't sure what was going to happen when moving the mouse in a direction, even after doing it 100x. I'd suggest some type of dialog which explains what's going to happen for each direction you move the mouse when you're editing (holding down the mouse button) on a certain part.
Character look -- Very good. This is the character as a whole.
Portrait look -- Err, okay? My first character looked GREAT, but then her portrait was total ****, no matter what I did. It took me an extra hour of playing around to find some options that looked decent in a portrait, and since there is no WiS yet the portrait is all that currently matters.
Customization options -- 2/10. I am sure you know this (and people are working hard on it) but i'll say it anyways. More colours, clothes, jewelry, types of glasses, maybe ways to customize the hair (lengths of certain parts like front, sides, back, etc) and different primary / secondary colour patterns.
Very cool though, looking forward to this, and makes me want WiS even more.

I love the new characters, very pretty.
However, the eye-color/hair-color selectors are too tiny and hard to see what they are without clicking on them. I would also like to be able to select colors for the clothing as well. It would be nice to be able to zoom just a bit further out in portait mode, just to show off a bit more of the body of the characters. I would also like to see the crazy secondary hair colors (ie. bright red, blue, green) especially for the Gallente.
Overall, the UI is very good and very intuitive.

Imho your new Dominique lacks: - wider cheeks - wider pupils - more curved nose ridge (check from side, might need to pull nose tip out) - slightly smaller nose ridge - the old eyebrows.. I miss them too for my beauty - fuller lower lip - chin/sides more v-shaped (seen from front)
Besides that they changed the lighting options quite a bit. We lost the blue-left/bright-right highlights with the overall bright omni light.. shame
PS: might wanna check on those legs again. To me they look quite thin?

I honestly hope there's more clothing and hair options in the final release, as the amount available at the moment is an absolute joke. And as for the sunglasses, not only is there too few options but they all look the same. Not that there's really any need for shades in space....
Also, the nose on the Intaki model.... WTF? No matter what, I can't get that to look like a human nose as opposed to a scarecrow's
And the backgrounds... As if they weren't bad enough before, all the remotely passable ones seem to have vanished. Not impressed by that.
However, it's all very pretty, and it is nice to finally be able to have a torso and some limbs. So, yeah, I can't wait for this to go live, but I sincerely hope that there will be a lot more to choose from...

Originally by: Axel Strom Also, the nose on the Intaki model.... WTF? No matter what, I can't get that to look like a human nose as opposed to a scarecrow's
True, the nose is much too long for my liking, the shortest (not the thinnest) nose that somehow fits the face my current best try of Intaki male.
The previous creator had better aging effects, the current one ads too visible lines beside the eyes to my liking. That's why I'm only adding one or two steps of scarring, so that the skin won't look unnaturally smooth.
I'm fairly content only with the Brutor female.
BUT seriously, we need a key (press CTRL etc) to freeze the face when sculpting. Just when you're about the select a control point the face moves so that you select the wrong one. And when you're adjusting just a bit the viewpoint changes so that you can't quite see how the change affects the look. You need to redo it several times once awhile, frustrating experience compared to the previous version. |

I noticed that the pictures, when finally saved are a lot more pixelated and in lower quality then during the character creation. You might consider to allowing a higher resolution right now, because the picture saved to file is rather pixelated.
The second is about choosing a picture, right now 4 picture can be taken for each character. Is it planned to allow players to manually select one of the 4 or will EVE automatically use the first picture?

a)Needs more hairstyles - like afros for both men and women also dreadlocks look weird
b)More accessories besides glasses - visors, minmatar bone hairclip things, gallente helmete visor things etc. etc.
c)Explenations as to what you can do on current screen - i had no idea i can make my char smile or diff expressions in the picture taking mode -
d)Needs more backgrounds for portraits current ones would be perfect different coloured lightning and indications of what color and what side the ligh is coming, its hard to indicate from the small picture currently

Obviously a lot of great work here.
The ability to adjust skin tone is an important part of the current (old style) character editor. The tones in the new editor are often far less distinct. Many of the tones in the old editor are simply no longer possible.
This is a good way to make characters distinct without too much overhead.

That's an excellent image, and gives me good reason to drag back up something I raised in another thread -- I'd love to see a full-body character viewer incorporated into the UI (seeing as it's currently being upgraded; it might be now or never ) -- We have a viewer already, for looking at ships, so I can't see it being uber-difficult to create...
I would also agree with the poster who complained about pixelated portraits in-game. I'd love to see them rendered with the 'extreme' setting (that I just noticed, btw...) and 16xQ anti-aliasing - if they're going to be static.
I'd also love it, if the login screen had the currently selected character fully animated - but not the other two, or it'd look as busy as a bag of monkeys.
In terms of it's own UI - I +1 everyone who's asked for a 'Save Settings'/Export option. Between two of my accounts, I have a pair of 'identical twin' Minmatar PI alts. Same skills, same age, same everything (I alt tabbed when creating them; so they're seconds apart in birthdates (--> OCD Alert <--) The only real difference in their portraits at the moment, is the lighting. And I'd hate to lose that.

Hello ladies how are you? Fantastic.
Look at this
Now look at me
Back to the link,
now back at me. Does he look like me, no. Do i want him to look like me yes.
I wanted to illustrate that the intaki need more long hair styles, cause frankly, I look like some rastafarian, or brutor, or honestly i look like the grengel from bloodlines.
Other notes from playing with it today -
Facial modification - could you maybe put a selectable list on the left on which part of teh skeletal structure you want to modify? I know several parts are selectable but maybe you can put a list and when you select them you highlight that area?
Backgrounds - I agree with verone, we could use many more, especially for the RP purposes, like many pirate BG's or maybe ones with banners of the 4 empires, etc
Lighting - didn't seem to really work for me, remember those blue ebil portraits, yeah we need stronger blue and green lighting for drama.
Selecting colors - for hair color selection doesnt really work to well. I cant really see what the colors are so i don't know what I am choosing.
Tatoos - yes we need them for all characters, I don't want the new obsidian without his facial tats.
Hoods - need hoods too, I dont want to look at bald amarr men. Veils - veils are needed for true amarrians
Other hats - gallente need their clear cyber plastic goggles and what not and the minmatar women need that cool face mask that they wear.

It would be very useful if the character stopped moving(Breathing animation) while you are trying to sculpt the face. As it stands now it is hard to get the exact desired affect when sculpting, especially on the sculpts where up/down and left/right have slightly unintuitive relations to each-other.
I also notices a bit of lag when sculpting the face after I game my character hair. Maybe just pause all passive animations while sculpting is happening, (9600 GT)
