Dammit! I actually clicked Save before I could take my screenshot.
Is there a way to return to the creator or at least get a big picture of myself now that the process is all done? The Capture Portrait button doesn't show up on SiSi.

Edited by: Magister Fenlain on 21/12/2010 04:46:50 Love the editor, made some really cool looking characters.
A few issues: Some horizontal one-pixel lines flickering above the upper lip, under the nose.
Worked fine for me, used everything on high settings on a 470 GTX and a i7-860.
You guys should totally add coloring to clothing, as well as a height option (unless I completely missed it), other than that it's awesome.

It's not bad, but you've still got a long way to go. As far as usability is concerned, I find it very clunky to browse through hair/clothes/background/whatever as it is now. There's also a severe lack in variation, which I hope and assume is due to it still being unfinished, but stuff like tattoos, different glasses, decals on clothes, cybernetic enhancements, scars and the like would be greatly appreciated.
It would also be nice if the lighting was a bit more flexible when creating portraits. Right now it's kind of annoying to mess around with it. I also find it hard to get unique facial structures within each bloodline - the faces are very rigid, and it's hard to make something new without it becoming ridiculous. I am a little worried the uniqueness of each character will be more tied to hair and hair color, than the actual face. It's still pretty good, just not perfect.
On the same note, I find it hard to fine-tune a character while it is moving around. While the animations are a nice touch, it would be nice to be able to 'pause' them. I have not found an option to do so.
Being able to choose colors for clothes and accessories would be a lot easier than having 5-6 duplicates of the same thing with different skins to choose from. Right now the scrolling process is kind of annoying, and it doesn't help when there are so many things to choose from.
Also, posing the face is a little dodgy. See this; http://imgur.com/Lq5Rm.jpg
Those blobs under her lips should clearly not be there. I assume they are from her teeth or something, they only appear when I make her smile. Long hair also has a tendency to clip through stuff, which looks pretty bad, but this is probably because it is still a WIP.
In conclusion; - Not enough variation - Clunky scrolling - Minor clipping issues
I hope this helps. Keep tweaking it.

Very true. Compared to the old/current TQ char creator where you could change the color of the lighting which also affected the background you were able to get a nice ambiance. But with the current one as the background stays static the end result can be quite disconnected. I do hope they find a better solution so that we are able to control the lights and angles / directions without having to scroll through tens or hundreds pre sets, at least give an option to go freeform. |

@CCP: Sometimes I can't get anti-aliasing to work in the character creator (works fine in the actual game), in any combination of the in-game settings, nor by forcing it with the drivers. I use a single Radeon HD5870, ati september drivers (maybe I should update), on 64bit windows 7. It's curious that sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Also, I found that most female characters created in this thread have a somewhat *****y look to them, so I made an attempt at making a cute looking one, here is the result:

I don't care much for the glittery pink etc types makeupwise, but I do like my "emo" punk-style with dreads I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I personally think that your "cute" version has a bit too much cheek and too litle cheeckbone and why so sad looking?
I like mine with the don't mess with me types and with happy faces. The latter actually reminds me a bit of a yesterdays Playboy model "Kata KSrkkSinen (Karkkainen)" (SFW).
HD5850 1GB, Win7 64bit here. I'm running 4x AA selected in game (drives set to application controlled). Anisotropic forced on the drivers at 16x. Everything set to high in game options. Haven't run into problems so far. December drivers.

- Touchscreen devices suck at running EVE. Please redesign your UI to be useable on a PC with a mouse. Yes, that might involve scroll bars and buttons. How very 90s of me to suggest something like this...
- Black. Its RGB values are (0,0,0). Shouldn't be that hard to render black hair. Feel free to contact me if you want to know which of the 3 numbers I gave you are red, green and blue.
- Clothes. Is this Second Life? The Sims Online? Or are you just kidding us? Need inspiration for more fancy clothes? Take a look at is this online spaceship game that was made by an icelandic company... NO, don't add more color options! You will have to hire a 3d artist to do the job.
- Amarrian Mohawks. They are just wrong! Yes, I'm being racist. No, this isn't real life. In a space game, there can be space jews. No one will rage about it, but players WILL rage if all races keep looking the same.
- Tattoos and piercings. They are not optional. Get them done! Reuse the models and textures from the old characters if you have to.
- Realism. You used too much of it.

Usability : - The most annoying fact for me : the "slide" function to pick up your choices is not bad in itself, it even looks cool (i am speaking about the slider where you can grab the haircuts, facial hair, etc etc). But it has its limit and when you have already 10-15 objects inside it can get quite annoying to go from the 1st one to the last one, ESPECIALLY with the backgrounds in the portrait step (75 backgrounds or so, it is absolutely awesome, but it takes ages to go from the end to the first one manually).
Try to grab below the options and make a fast "swipe" (like with touch based mobile phones), you can quickly scroll from end to end. But it would be better if the options were continious i.e. get to end xxx option and the next is the first once again. There is of course the argument that when it stops you know that you have seen all the different options and not be wondering why the options seem to be similar than the ones before, but here the numbering helps once again.
As for the background are you running everything with high? (I haven't tried anything but high settings...)
I think I was all running in high settins, yes. It is by default when you install sisi anyway ? Can't remember but it looked far too smooth for a low detail options.
Well I tried to do as you suggested for the sliders, but the way it slides is all but smooth. I sometimes have to try several times to make it move, and generally it just goes up to 3 images next maximum.
It would be so much better to be able to enable an array/table mode : click on the haircuts for example, and choose to open a windows when you can pick the more easily.

Two more attempts... True Amarrian --> Close / Full
Robes are there, only in 3 variants tho, but it would be nice to put that hood on his back on his head. And Amarrian women need robes, they don't have any except those "longer shirts"
And Minnie Brutor --> Close / Full
He seems unfinished, would like to slap a scar/tattoo or 2 in there to get the real feeling of Minmatar...
Other things are working really good, even with 8XQQ anti-aliasing and extreme detail settings on my 8800GT, no crashes at all so i'm happy with the work so far...

I can only think you're trying to grab the icon itself, try and do the "swipe" just under the icons. I can pretty much each and every time scroll the whole background / lighting range with just one or two swipes. The flow smoothly from end to end... (I think I'm keeping to mouse button pressed the whole time, not sure, have to check when I get home). |

As in all beauty contests, tastes wary, but I would definately make the orbital bone (eyebrow) smaller. Go to three quarters behind (looking from behind) and drag the brow back a bit. It's very pronounced at the moment. And if the eyes are set very deeply it will make a more manly look. |

That is a big problem. If there is one working way these things are designed to be operated, than they should tell it to the users. It never even occured to me that the best way to do that would be to do a swipe where the icons aren't even at. You can't just assume peole will somehow figure out your random unintuitive BS way of controlling things, especially since the more intuitive ways are supported too, but don't work as well. Since CCP is allowing alternative ways to use the system, those alternative ways have to be working just as smoothly.

You think she looks manly?
As you say tastes vary and I love her just the way she is . Too late to make any changes now anyway, I had to delete her as I made her on my last free slot across both accounts so now she only exists as a fond memory and a ton of screenshots on my HD.

I assure you I am doing the same. I am grabing the slide under or above the images, but it keeps doing that.
I am usually the last one to complain with the usability of the char creator and the tools released here as I am used to graphics and 3D modeling.

- Some reset option in portrait mode would be nice. I screwed up more than once doing some changes to the facial expressions ending up with an abomination I couldn't mend.
- Aging is a bit weird on some of the female models, kind of Teen->Twen->Botox
- Hair colors, pls. add more. Green, Blue, Grey, Silver. Right now it's half a dozen brown tones.
- Blind eyes are cool, but iris is still faintly visible. Not much of a deal in fullscreen, but the small renderings look like normal eyes. Guess it's caused by compression artifacts. Maybe chrome eyes? Gold?
- More formal clothes would be nice. The clothes look superb, but some look more adequate for hiking than space ship commandeering
- I'm taking a picture! Hold still d@mmit!

Agree with these.
Also I have few things:
- Many light hair colours look very unnatural. If you mix different primary and secondary colours it gives the hair a more natural colour. But it also makes hair around the temples a lot darker, which looks very unnatural, as if the hair is dyed a month ago;
- Long hair textures really clip a lot, they look quite horrible with light hair colours;
- What happened to the old editor's favourite Khanid (long sleek) and Vherokior (shoulder length) hairstyles? More variations wouldn't be too much to ask for imo;
- The pony tail folds very strangely when you see the character from the right;
- Green eyes don't look very greenish;
- I can't really give my character a pale face colour; no goths allowed or just for a few bloodlines?
- Muscular females still don't really look muscular;
- No length adjustments, one size fits all? So much for diversity!
- Portrait photo: the light effects only have influence on the character, not the background, which makes most photos look rather artificial as if the background was photoshopically added later.

Caldari Deteis test run
Hmm, feedback...
The good:
-The interface is very intuitive to use (mostly, exception see below) -The level of detail is very nice
The bad:
-It's not immediately clear that you have different shaping options from different viewing angles. E.g. I only just found out you can adjust the size of your avatar's ears. There are more things like that in there. Have a hint pop up to alleviate this, maybe?
Other: -I hope we'll be getting more clothes and/or the ability to pick the cloth color. Also, I seem to remember there were tucking options in one of the two previous versions? They'd be nice to have for better conveyance of your avatar's character (someone who's accustomed to order might tuck his shirt in whereas someone not as orderly would not, for example) - if for nothing else then for diversity. This is more of a concern for when Incarna comes out though.
More will be posted when I've had more time to play around with the character creator. I do like what I'm seeing though (racial accessories..?), keep up the good work. --- Sig will be updated shortly |

i am somewhat disappointed in the lack of futuristic/sci-fi clothing options. everything i've seen so far look too "normal" and too ordinary better belonging into some teenie series about some teenage superheroes or emo vampires.
what i'd personally like to see are tight sci-fi-/military-looking bodysuits fully covering the body of a character up to the neck with some armor plates located in appropriate places, following the bodyshape a bit.
something in the lines of following designs: http://www.abload.de/img/phantom_front-thumb-55bzhz.jpg http://www.abload.de/img/nice_ninja_by_elconsigm9lm.jpg http://www.abload.de/img/survivor_in_disguise_bfylj.jpg http://www.abload.de/img/pchat__suit_up_by_kiikql1h.png http://www.abload.de/img/ffc90bfbeefaa10d7391feya3b.jpg or these if you ignore the huge arms/shoulders/helmets and look at the torso designs: http://www.abload.de/img/29074adba5fdf940b00efdh91f.jpg http://www.abload.de/img/moe120711bodysuitgantz59n4.jpg with some more military/sci-fi looking gadgets over the entire body.
the current clothing options are really boring IMO, not fitting the image of a badass ship commander in a vast sci-fi universe. and to be very blunt: something like this + WiS/Incarna = massive influx of new players
same goes for glasses and gadgets for the head: brutors with aviator glasses are pretty iconic, so they are perfectly fine, but i'd wish there were some more visors in lines of Mass Effect designs like this one, maybe only covering one eye and bit less bright - representing the concept of "augmented reality". communicators plugged into ears and similar gadgets would be pretty cool, too(old achura style).
i understand that clothes options might be not that high on the top priority of character creation development right now, but it's my last chance to give feedback on the official forums before my account expires, so there it is.

Yeah, I'd love to see hats & goggles. Or, bits of clothing that can be warn various ways, ie goggles on the head as glasses, or those same goggles on the head, or around a hat (like that mechanic from Star Craft).
Berets, mechanic hats, soldier helmets, visors - I think it would be great to have eyewear and headwear.
Also, anyone working with the client stretched over dual monitors? Even though I have a UI offset, it still puts everything straight down the middle. I wish it would offset the login & character selection screens based on my offset.
NOT HARD CCP!!
