"player experience". I think learning that you cant do anything you like at any given time in 0.0 is a pretty damn awesome experience I believe.

Edited by: millsy4606 on 22/12/2010 06:03:44 Edited by: millsy4606 on 22/12/2010 06:03:01 I dont quite think some people on the forum are actually understanding what is happenin here, read my first post and then understand something,
what these noobs are doing is not piracy, pirates actually kill people by any means, like blobbing, jump bridge portals stealth bombing the crap out of poor pilots. However they arent... they sit there in there little cloaked ships doing nothing, they give good honest pirates a bad name, the people that actually go out in nano ***ged vagas and kill peeps, that gank poor solo ratters in null.
and how can you carebear in null sec, im constantly got local open, DIR scan, when travelling about im looking for drag bubbles, and constant threat of being hot dropped...what system have you guys gone to where its safe to rat, please link so i can go there!

One more thing, remove local people always say that removing local would solve afk cloaker problem. Well if local would be removed, then it is situation OP would have to assume that there's bug in anomaly respawn mechanism as he wouldn't see afk cloaker, but wouldn't get new anomalies.

Defintely an exploit as it's laid out.
Being able to deny an opponent a resource? Not only fair, but sensible.
Being able to deny an opponent a resource without ANY risk to themselves? Congratulations if you can do this by normal means.
Being able to deny an opponent by abusing game mechanics without ANY risk to themselves? Exploit, clear and simple.

Figure out how to phrase it to a GM as an exploit... Try military SOV upgrade with that... Entrap (I think) path?
If it interferes with the Dominion SOV reward changes, it's liable to be seen as an exploit more readily and the devs will find it of far more interest to fix.

now this tactic is a good idea actually another way to slow down the 00 botting and encourage some of these farmers in 00 to either a) goto low sec b) wormhole space c) high sec or go ratting or move around

things are classified as exploit only by CCP and nobody else. Currently, its not.

you know what a meatshield or pet is? Probably, you are one of them(whats rather your problem, not afk cloakers). In a real (non-pet/meatshield)alliance and you can rat and carebear without any risk of hotdrop and where a red appears once a day or something and thats bad enough.
0.0 is too safe already, hence nerfing cloaks so you cant even harass pets effectively would be a step in wrong direction.

I'm an afk cloaker and I'm in the process of setting up an afk cloaking corp and then alliance. The aim, to spam 0.0 with afk cloakers.
As to the question why don't they come kill you? Why should they do what you want and expect them to do? That would be playing to your strengths and their weaknesses.
A cloaky ship is a pre-nerfed ship. Its designed to cloak, not attack alliances. Its EvE's version of the submarine. ah btw. yes, I've done afk cloaking with a bomber for a while, ganked some bears, camped other systems and such stuff. its fun.

It seems like there ought to be some way to locate and uncloak someone if you already have pretty specific knowledge about where they are. Some long-range, low strength AoE effect that has no real function beyond finding cloaked ships in a specific location.
That would allow people to stay afk-cloaked as long as no one knew where, specifically, they were. It would also allow people like the OP to flush out cloaked players that are blocking their resources.
What if there was a cumulative module that fit in high slots that increased the range of smart bombs, but decreased their damage significantly and increased their cycle time? For example, let's say that if you fit 6 of these new modules, and one smartbomb, then the bomb would deal only 1 damage but with a 100 km radius, and it would do so at a slow rate. The ship you're using to flush out the enemy can't also shoot the enemy, being the idea. You'll need to bring a friend to kill the cloaked enemy, or your enemy essentially has to be afk to suffer any consequences before they can warp out or move away and recloak.
Requiring a highly specialized fit should be enough of a deterrence to keep this from becoming a common weapon against cloakers. Cloaked ships would still be able to sneak up on enemies effectively, unless the enemy sacrifices all his combat viability. Cloaked ships would still have a chance to escape if they're found out. But there would be a countermeasure that you could employ against them.

Have 4 in corporation so far, have a few people training alts up for it, and another 3 apps to approve when I log on. I'm looking at getting roughly 50-100 people.
Starting recruitment drive soon as I get some shuteye, been on holidays :)

What if a cloaked ship wouldn't stop a deathspace whatnot from despawning? Sure, it'd look a bit silly from the cloakers point of view, but it'd solve the problem... ---

+1 for that.
Maybe the OP should start a thread in the Assembly hall forum with a suggestion for some despawning mechanic that is not stopped from the presence of inactive players in the location.

I know what the Op was on about, maybe wasnt as specific as I should have been but it was going the way of another nerf cloaks thread, plus the ratting part is responding to the Op's claim that 0.0 ratting is unsafe.
As for the respawn, yeah its annoying and should be changed really.

The correct way to fix signatures not despawning is to update the code so that they will despawn regardless of player presence.
My approach would be to exclude cloaked ships from the count of "ships on grid", which will also fix some problems in faction warfare.

Go for it. The more people abuse the all but complete safety cloaks provide, the faster they'll get nerfed.
Its unlikely they'll be nerfed. If they are, unlike nullbears, we will adapt and find another way to make your 0.0 carebearing fearful.
Yeah, that's what they said about NOS and nano... It's been coming for years, you all just speed the process.
