Hi,
My friend was banned and doesn't know why and CCP isn't replying to his petition. What's up with that?
The reason given was "Eula violation" which is *very* vague since it's such a massive document, it could be anything!
Thanks.

I have had an account banned before for something I didn't do. They claimed I bought isk online from an RMT but I didn't. I sold an item to someone who apparently had. They did their research and lifted the ban with an apology (as shallow as it was).
So mistakes do happen. Be patient with the petition. If your friend is innocent they will find out and the ban will be released. If he is guilty...then the ban is justified no matter what he says.

His "friend" does not. Hewas sitting in somers lotto channel chatting away with us and poof, gone. Came back a little later on a trial alt saying he got a 3 day ban on all his toons and it doesn't give any detail saying for what.

What Iella said. The person chats away in the Somer Lotteries chan about their industry projects. Last I remembered chatting in channels and doing Eve Industry stuff wasn't an eula violation.

Geez, people, you're worse than dogs. As in, if you don't spank them the moment they poop on the carpet, they don't know why you spank them and they never learn to stop pooping on the carpet. He might have been banned for something he did a week or a month or half a year ago. _

So he talked in a channel? Why he didn't talk in local? Sounds like he has something to hide. -- please consider to visit our w-space system, cake will be served immediately. |

There might of been more interesting people in the channel verses local. xD

Because he's always talking in Somer Lotteries the channel, and local is full of trolls and ******s?
I can't claim to know what he did or didn't do, but the GMs definitely need to be less vague about reasons for bans.

"Industry projects" would be the most likely explanation tbh. Does this person also happen to have a healthy blink habit?

He used to iirc. He stopped playing blink a while back.

Edited by: Moonlight Express on 20/12/2010 21:05:51 To ban someone with giving a reason is bull ****. CCP has a history of mistakes with bans and keeps strong arming their paying customers like that. 3 day ban is hardly a major violation of EULA. Most likely he was taping in to a GMs toon's industry product and like many times before, the GM banned him for his personal benefit without telling him what he did wrong. It should be reported and the petition escalated to a senior GM. There should never be any bans without explanation. If he was talking in channel that he was not allowed to talk, he should be given a warning before any ban.

You should ask the GM that did the banning the same question.

A 3 day ban for an EULA violation is like a slap on the hand. Fact is, when you violate the EULA CCP usually just hands out warnings. A ban is something that CCP actually felt warranted a temp ban. So, looking at it that way, what's this guy got to complain about? He got off easy! And, if he ever did ANYTHING to modify the EULA, he will know.

Since it's just a 3 day ban I'd take a shoot at that he said something less polite in a channel or local. Like the c-word, the f-word, the n-word, the l-word, the b-word, the p-word or the xptob-word. Real life threats are usually longer, and hacking the client is a life long ban.

You get an e-mail sent and a description of the ban when you log in.
Chances are your 'friend' (most likely your alt) exploited or sold ISK because tbh that is really the only thing people get banned for.
My case lasted like 3 hours and was so unique it was pretty comical and was more of a GMs way of telling me to STFU

One of the most infamous life-bans was Ginger Magician, for a RL threat. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I have a friend who got banned for posting a link in Jita local to some "questionable" internet content.
Ok ok...it was Futinari **** that he meant to post in his corp chat and accidentally posted in local but it was still funny as hell and I get to laugh at him about it from time to time.

a reason should be given at the time of the ban IMHO.
that way he/she/it has time to think about it while they cool there heels.
if you are a paying customer which we all are, we at least deserve a reason we cant get into a game we pay for other than a vague eula violation description.
as a paying customer we at least deserve that.
just my 2 cents

Edited by: Myxx on 21/12/2010 02:43:42 your friend might of done several things to build up for it, example -
someone decided to harrass a few corp mates of mine and friends of our corp, even made a real life threat to one of us, we called him on it and group petitioned.
he was given a warning for it.
comes back a week later and spams our public channel with profanity, along with spam mailing us - again we group report it, he was given a three day ban with the implication of being permanently banned from the game if he were to continue or do it again.
definition of profanity in the above example being sexist/racist comments and overall general hate speech.
in other words, the person in question most definitely knows what they did to deserve it, even if it was in another channel entirely. --
