I just found out that the average age of a WoW player is 28, which surprised me a lot. Where does this place the average age of Eve players? 35? 40?
I'm guessing the number 28 might be lying a bit though, depending on if they get the age from the account creator (which may very well be a parent). I'm also suspecting the mean value might be quite lower...

I would not be one bit surprised if the age of just about any paid-for game would vary by as little as plus/minus one year across all such games. It's the video game generation, people up to 35 or even 40 have been growing up with SOME form of video game since they were very little.
If anything, due to the PLEX/GTC system, it's much more likely for average age of EVE players to be lower, since it's easier for younger (and therefore cash-poor, time-rich) people to keep an active account. Then again, EVE is a bit more... ahem... unforgiving, which should more than negate that aspect.
I'd guess something around 29 old on average for EVE. _

the mean value is the average value. If you suspect the statistic is wrong it is implied you think the mean is wrong.

Judging by the forum threads I would say the average age is four!

Studies have consistently shown the average gamers age to be 33-35, which seems to be pretty well represented by the EVE community. It also has a much higher amount of people in their 40's and even 50's playing than you'd find in your usual online games.

As of October 2006, the average age of an Eve Online player was 27, of which 95% were male and 5% were female. The average weekly playtime is 17 hours, or just under 2.5 hours per day on average.[26]

We don't have pretty clothes and ponies, that's why...
I would hazard a guess that EvE probably has some of the older gamers as well as some of the youngest, the age range being quite wide. If memory serves wasn't there a chap in his 70s playing at some point, until he... erm... 'died in a fire'... |

If we could have signatures, I'd make this mine just as a point and laugh at all the people who keep making fun of WoW, for whatever reason they do. As if internet spaceships is somehow superior to internet ponies and elves.

I think both of those points support younger players, if I have a lot of time then it means taking a hard hit on a "unforgiving" game means I will most likely be able to work it back fast. However if I only able to fit a few hours a week in due to heavy work load then I doubt I would keep playing if I had to spend weeks making back a loss each time.
Eve seems to be diverse enough to encourage all ages to play however I honestly think the sub 20 category would be the most populated due to excessive amounts of free time to pay for plex and/or grind.

13 million is a rather large number to average.
Also when taking age into account dont they take the range when asking rather than the specific number? EG: How old are you? 18-22, 23-26? etc etc
Not that it really matters, but it is interesting.

I started a corp about 5 years ago, I was roughly 21 years old and for a while I was the youngest member of the corp (until another member got his younger brother to join up). The oldest member was in his early 60's but I think the majority of the members were between 30's and 40's. Many of my contacts in Eve have been in their 30's and over, and it's not uncommon to meet people in their 50's and 60's.

With WoW I'd be betting that they're talking about the average age of the person paying for the account with their credit card, rather than the person actually playing. (Though I haven't read the linked article.)
My limited time in WoW was among people in their mid-30s, which is maybe why I lasted as long as I did. When they all went and got involved with other things, I realised that I REALLY didn't like most of the other WoW players - and a lot of them were barely out of diapers, either physically or mentally - and came back to Eve.
PvP in WoW is all about the twitch-skills - which I don't have. PvP in Eve tends to be all about the rat-bastard-cunning - which I do.
