Topic!
Do I need a pos or something? Got this char who would probably own at this, no reason NOT to use him.

You need to build a research lab. They can only be built in 0.0 or lowsec. Head down to your nearest 0.0 or lowsec with all the stufs that you need to build an Advanced Mobile Lab in a std hauler.

Sounds safe. And that is my only option?

Well, a std hauler might be a litle unsafe to gatecamps.
I highly recommend using blockade runner. It'll be a walk in the park with one of these.
P.S You can also buy one straight off from the market for convenience, albeit at a higher cost.

stations with labs will work just as well [well apart from the wait and time] --

If you don't wish to put a POS in low sec you can put one in highsec if you have a good enough faction standing with that empire. You will need a standing of 5.00 for a 0.5 system 6.00 for a 0.6 and 7.00 for a 0.7. -------------------------------------------------- "There is no such thing as an effective segment of totality." - Bruce Lee |

Sturmwolke doesn't know what he is talking about. Labs can be anchored with a POS in high sec. Or you can use a public lab in high sec which will have a wait of approximately a month. Less wait at a low sec public lab but you 'run the gauntlet' then. Use a shuttle or a fast ship fitted with warp stabilisers.

Ah, the school of hard knocks
Then again we want these players to stick around in EVE so we can enjoy killing them more

Erm... umm... I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not.
After reading post #2 I was gonna post #3 stating that Sturmwolke was obviously being naughty to catch-up for having been good for Christmas (I'm sure he was beginning to get an uncontrollable tick), but the forum login timer struck and I wasn't in the mood to login again. So I let it pass.
Anyways, I was sure that somebody else would respond, and I see I wasn't wrong.
