gank - to plunder (normally involves destruction )
tank - to modify your ship in such a way that it becomes very difficult to kill this applies only to armor shield or hull and normally utilizes 4 or more mods to even begin to properly tank. Eg. - 2x LG Shield Extenders 1x XL Shield Booster 4x Shield Hardeners / Amplifiers something along those lines of course i wouldnt use that particular setup but thats a basic idea of it. ----------------- *Decloaks and starts blasting your sig* Applesauce Biotch
~~~My Banner got nerfed~~~ But I still love the mods anyway
gankage is totally outdamaging an opponents ability to repair or take damage. Usually involves high-damage guns, and a setup totally devoted to dealing damage.
example:
armageddon with 7 megapulse lasers, 2xtracking computer, sensor booster and 7 heatsinks.
tanking involves setting up to be able to resist and repair damage as much as possible.
example: apocalypse with 2 large armor repairers, 3-4 hardeners and enough cap to run those hardeners indefinately.
Either method is easy as well as hard to beat, but requires specific methods and experience to overcome.
You can't win a fight without the ability to do more damage then your oponent can repair indefinatly.
Edited by: Arleonenis on 19/01/2005 00:03:47 yep as they said: gank do insane amont of damage but under fire it have survivasbility of snow ball in hell, pure dmg dealer without any defences tank is balanced setup usually more in defence way, it do normal, moderate damage and could withstand some beating, its on the repairing dmg not lots of hit points as one guy sugested ew setup is support setup, primary "offence" and "defence" are jammers, dumpers and other electronic warfare, damage dealing and tanking damage abilities are very limited
usually used: ganks in pvp, especiall blockades tanks in pve (hunting npcs) when you have multiple enemies and taking them one by one ew exclusively in pvp, as npcs are not affected by electronic warfare
there are one more type of setup: sniping one, using propulusion upgrades, sensor booster and long range weapons, its very similar to gank setup, but have lower offence and its defence is keeping outside range of enemies, usually used in npc hunting
edit: spelling
I thought that rats are affectd by EW but since they have all sensor strengths equally its rather hard to nullify them.
The only EW effect that havy any effect on NPC's is webbing and energy draining. and the latter is severly limited in effect (you get some energy, but the rat feels no effect).
Other then that, leave the EW home for NPCing. _______________________________________________
Used to be able to EW rats IIRC, but it was nerfed due to ppl exploiting it. Think about it. Anyone with an EW ship who knows what they're hunting could just jam the heck out of the NPC, and take their sweet time killing a defenseless target. Anybody could go BS hunting that way.
