Originally by: Mazer Jujube Right then, for pure unadulterated speed at doing missions, triple TP golem. However I still feel the rattler is a perfectly valid option. Consider since it has drones, less isk to spend on ammo, for example.
Also, if you've already skilled up on drones and have good sentry skills, the rattlesnake is a good choice for that damage bonus. Take out targets quickly and efficiently with warriors for frigs/intys.
you can think that, it doesn't however make it right. and anyways if all your skills point to that use it, it just isn't a worthwhile long term goal. I mean the whole thread is about what is the better ship for level 4s and the answer is golem.
Originally by: KWyz Isn't a rattlesnake a much safer option for lazy/busy people? Wouldn't a ship designed for passive tanking, thus having massive amounts of shield and EHP, be very difficult to take down in a highsec gank, making it a viable alternative for known ganking systems?
A golem easily falls prey to just a few alpha BS, that's a given.
and I thought we already went over the whole rattlesnake is good for afk bit? yes the buffer tank + resists also make it much more gank resistant, but hey, no one is going to straight up gank you for 4 faction bcus, I mean if you are paranoid go for 3 and a t2.

The whole topic is about which ship is better for L4s, but not every pilot flies L4s the same way. For the people purely concerned with isk/hour, the golem is better. For several other situations, the rattlesnake is better.
It's cheaper than the golem with less skills required to fly it, it's a great choice for some people. Not everyone.

nighthawk, with command ships 5, medium missile specialization 5
NH kills BS fast, small stuff fast, medium stuff fast... and the ship moves fast by default compared to battleships. Can be fit to passive tank or active tank any L4 mission, and the ship is cheaper than a golem or rattlesnake.
I fit gisti-x type large shield booster, 1x gist a type small, boost amplifier, and two hards, usually CN invuln and 1 racial specific, with 3 x CN ballistic, and 2 power diag II's.
Tengu does more dps without training the horrendously long command ships 5 or HML spec 5, can tank more damage, and is faster. Only difference is about 200 mil isk. It only requires training off sub's 5 which is a x1 skill and missile spec 4, and you're outdamaging a perfectly skilled NH by a significant amount. Not to mention a Tengu gets a 50% missile velocity bonus on top of 25% kinetic missile damage, and 37.5% rof bonus.

Fixed it for you: 5 tp loadout
(Not to imply that I've had the cajones to actually use that loadout.)

Edited by: Rip Minner on 08/01/2011 17:33:31 Golem is a one trick pony. It's very good at it's one trick but thats all it has.
The Rattlesnake Can be tanked every possable way. From Active and Passive Shield tanked. To armor tanked. They all have there advantages and disadvantages.
Just like to Sentry Drone or not the Sentry Drone it mainly comes down to if you like siting in one place or you wish to remain moble.
I personly like being flexable.
Is it a rock? Point a Lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship? Point a Lazer at it and profit. I dont realy see any differnces here. |

Suicide gankers must love this fit. Also you have to be total masochist to use 5 target painters on your ship.

lol at that 5 TP Golem. What a crock of ****.
For the OP, until you've seen a Golem do a mission it's hard to believe just how fast it is. It's VERY hands on compared to a Rattlesnake so perhaps if you often need to do other things whilst playing Eve missions then the Golem aint for you.
I run with an XL booster, cap booster and 2 TP on mine, and some cruisers can take up to 4 volleys which can be a PITA considering some BS can be 2 shot'd. Maybe I should have a rethink with my fit... I used to have a Pithum A-Type medium booster on my Tengu, and I'm regretting selling it now, because the XL booster on the Tengu gives 2500dps omni tank (perfect for plex or WH) and the medium booster on the Golem makes it cap stable meaning I could drop the cap booster for another TP and give that a try..

Use a Domi for AFKing lvl4's. Rattlesnakes are for lvl5's.

This is something I'm looking at too. EFT warrior'ing with faction shield boosters can create a pretty damn good stable tank and still get 3 tp in, which is the aim. Rattlesnake has the bonuses for a great passive tank, but it takes too many slots I think.

Omni-passive drake with T2 HML and T2 light drones. 70k EHP 154shield/s 70-ish resists around. Dont need 400-600mil ships for lv4s. And i've done missions with golem for long time. Drake get the job done pretty fast, consider you've payed the ship/fit cost after 1-2 mission :)

you don't need them, but they get the job done faster than a drake. so there comes a point where you pay the ship off and have made more isk than the drake pilot
lets see
for the faction ship -600m+50m*h for the drake -60m+20m*h
so after 18 hours both are at the same income level, after that the faction ship just keeps making more. okay the numbers were a bit made up, but the point stands, there will be a point where using an awesome ship is just better than using a cheap ass drake. and that point is pretty low.

20m*h with drake? Well that aint me for sure.I do somewhere between 30-40. depending what missions i would get in that hour. So its not a valid point. Some days you can get **** missions all the time. Some days all you get are the good ones. And ofc it depends on ur SP / where you put the skills. i have both Marauder 5, and BC 5. For your curiosity - G-T

Cruise Rattlesnake yes? Why bother. Use the CNR (or any other good Minmatar gunboats). Quoting EFT ranges with disregard to damage types & falloff really looks good on paper. The Golem will always be a short-medium range boat (< 60km), that will never change.
The Rattlesnake will never beat any of the above boats in their primary roles in terms of missioning efficiency. The few reasons (non-exhaustive) why you'd use one is :
a) you love drones. b) you love taking your sweet time for the missions. c) you love how it looks. d) you love to passive tank because you miss the Drake's passive tank. e) you like to be different for the sake of being different. f) you hate how the Domi looks.
thats a scary amount of truth over there
