I would like to avoid derailing the conversation, but I can't resist asking where exactly you picked up this piece of information.
Well--
We shouldn't be too hard on her, Boma. It's true that she speaks without knowing, probably based on the laws of the State, but it's not as though any of the sects I can think of propose an Amarrian-style conquest. In the stories, the one doing the enslaving is usually a monster or bandit or something.
Of course, those who sin against the heavens may be bound into service for their crimes, but that's usually something that happens on the spiritual plane....
Can you think of any "earthly" exceptions?

Besides some Baatsu customs I cannot think of anything. It wasn't a jab, I was just curious if she had found something confirming the fact. Baatsu females could surely be considered slaves by most, as could a lot of traditionally raised Achur youth while in certain forms of training.
You know me, and I am not going to miss out on any Achur cultural information that may be out there. So apologies if it seemed like a snarky challenge.

Boma:
Ah. I see you gave her more credit than I did. Apologies.
You're quite right about a woman's traditional place; it's not just in Baatsu. I was going to make a crack about that when I started that last post, but it sort of slipped my mind as I went.
But ... slavery, as practiced by the Amarr or the Cartel ... mmh. Not so much. A wife may, traditionally, be property, but there are few respectable persons who think you can sell her, "compensation" to her parents aside. Likewise, selling an apprentice would probably be frowned on.

Edited by: Boma Airaken on 02/01/2011 20:42:33 Edited by: Boma Airaken on 02/01/2011 20:38:57 I am not always so grumpy in my old age. Just most of the time. Anyways, like I said Aria, I wish you good luck and great fortune with your newfound kyaraban, and as always, please keep in touch. In these times everyone is just a fluid router away, but that is no substitute for a drink and discussion over a hearty meal at home, face to face.
As far as the detractors, let them blow all the hot air they want and show their true colors. As a baatsu Achur, I am getting my share of it for flying with EoM and studying the teachings of Ocilan. Which you should look into sometime. Very interesting from an Achur perspective. But I have learned that those who question and denounce care quite a bit less than they let on, and the benefit they feel they reap is quite often the opposite. Pay them no mind.

"Path of choice". Has a beautiful ring to it. Shame how so many in the universe don't think there actually is one.

I had hoped you would find a balance with the two, but I trust you will land on your feet, Pilot Jenneth, if you have not already done that.
We still owe each other talk over tea.

Mm. "Path of choice" ... well, perhaps. It looks to me more like the path placed before me; I merely "choose" to walk it.
Incidentally, one thing I must disagree with ...
Originally by: Boma Airaken And remember this. The friends you made over time, who cannot see past your political loyalties, were never your friends in the first place.
No ...
Political loyalties are often deeply personal things. They reflect deep beliefs about life and the ways in which people should relate to one another. Some friendships are built in spite of, or even grounded on, profound disagreements in this area. Some, however, are built on mutual agreement and understanding in political matters, or otherwise will not survive a major breach.
One is not more "real" than the other.
If I have lost Vikarion's friendship, that is a genuine loss, and I will not minimize it by saying I have lost nothing.
That is not regret; it is merely recognition of a price paid.

Aria, I am glad that you've finally found peace between your two loyalties. Good luck to you, and hopefully we can work together more. --

I cannot disagree more. I believe one cannot serve more than three, and this is paramount to Achur faith.
