Hi all.
I'm a new player to EVE and so far I love it. I have some friends playing with me and recently we joined a corp with some veteran players, much willing to lend a hand and some tips of the trade to us rookies. But now it seems we might be in for a war. As a new player I can only fly frigates or cruisers and have very limited funds as well as skills. I would like to help my corp as much as I can in this, possible, struggle. But what skills, ships or items would be most helpful to higher skilled players from low skilled characters? I reckon my guns would probably just scratch the paint of combatant vehicles so that part is pretty much out of the question and I'd rather not just dig myself into a hole and hope others will do the dirty work for me.
Thanks.

Edited by: Toshiro GreyHawk on 02/01/2011 11:32:06 The usual starting PVP role is tackler.
You fit a Warp Scrambler or Disruptor and a Stasis Webbifier to your little frigate - approach your target at an angle, then when you are close enough turn on first the Scrambler/Disruptor - then the Webber.
Tackling 101.
Oh ... and plan on being destroyed. So fly a cheap ship with cheap fittings.
The other thing you can do though - is ask your corp mates what they want you to do and how they expect you to behave during their fleet ops. Mostly - you just do whatever your fleet commander says.

I'd suggest you ask them.
a griffin or blackbird would be cheap and a nice force multiplier. people just hate getting jammed
the good old trusty rifter (or just a tackling frig in general) is always nice to have around, sure it pretty much just scratches paint, but it makes it so they can't run away. web + scram them, and orbit close so they can't hit you well.

ôBut now it seems we might be in for a warö
Wars can be some great times in eve if you are prepared. If you are a new player, as mentioned above, a griffin/blackbird's ability to jam War Targets is a great choice for a low skill point characters interested in advancing into the recon role. Fast Tackle is also valuable for pinning down targets with warp Scramblers and Disruptor s. If you like shooting I recommend the Fast Tackle role, if your more of a PVP care-bear check out some of the electronic warfare frigs. When at war, listen to your Fleet Commander, and take the time to learn basic agression mechanics. And have fun.

That's patently wrong. Going into a small gang or larger fight with an EAW will almost certainly end in your exploding. Whether you contributed to the outcome of the fight before you exploded is another issue. It is certainly not a care-bear role in PvP.

Confirming that tackling and EWAR are the best for newbies with limited cashflow. In fact, I wrote an entry on my corp website on how newbies can contribute to a war by fulfilling the role of either Griffin, Blackbird, or tackler. I include some links on fittings along with basic costs as well. -----------------
