This is about CCP, so you can save your bitter "don't change my EVE" for the other threads.
Do you think it would be a wise idea to change the game so your ship was magically moved to a starbase when it was blown up? Should all of Eve be highsec? No, that's another game (probably with huge shoulderpads in it). Nothing bitter about it, just that if you think Eve should be more of a flightsim/wow/Sims/chess/polo game or something else, maybe there's another game out there that suit your need better.
As a likeness, if you want your car to accelerate quickly, move swift and only travel on two wheels... maybe you should really bought a motorcycle.
You're (again) confusing the company with the product.
That's why people say "EVE is laggy" and not "CCP is laggy" or "EVE is a spaceship game" and not "CCP is a spaceship game" or "EVE requires some thinking" and not "CCP requires some thinking".
See, even if I think Ford is a horrible company that cares way too less about their customers, the environment and their employees, I can still think that Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 is a great product and even drive one!!

Because of the way they will harshly ban you if you aren't one of them if its your word against say, someone who met one of the GMs without blinking an eye. All the stupid coding mistakes they have made which have in the past have even destroyed people's computers. Missteps in development, greed, being full of themselves despite all of this.
I think that covers most the reasons I've heard about why people hate CCP. I think, there's probably more.

Edited by: Seul Manus on 09/01/2011 19:37:00 CCP does more support then Infinity Ward, and CCP doesn't have the leech Robert Kotick on its board. So high five for CCP.
As for the game, big things are supposed to be coming to Eve, so I'm giving Eve 3 years, as in my previous stated 2 years plus another 1 years grace before I'll decide if its worth sticking around.

I don't know why that post is "interesting". It's written by some obviously antisocial developer with little appreciation for players and other people's opinions and no confidence in his own abililty to stay out of flamewars.
There are many games out there that have gained a lot of momentum by involving the player community, allowing them to participate in improving the game. CCP is certainly one of them.
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

As an 12 year old boy I was an obsessive player of the game Elite on my BBC B computer. The game literally sucked me in until I was hardly aware of the room around me and the passage of time in the real world. To me, the months I played the game were not a waste. I had been priveledged to inhabit a world that had been created by strangers for my enjoyment and in that world I had experienced real emotion, elation and struggle. Despite the virtual nature of the world I moved through my experiences were unmistakably real.
I'm now 37 and in the intervening years I discovered drink, drugs, music, women, sport, cinema and many other things that would bring wonder and pleasure into my life. But it wasn't until I discovered Eve that I would feel that same sense of magic and immersion that I had felt all those years ago.
Perhaps it is not a case of loyalty but a case of appreciation for the individuals who have created something significant. A collection of codes that can touch human beings on a visceral and emotion level. That is a significant achievement.

I started playing just after RMR and I've always liked EVE.
I liked both the Revelation expansions and I think they contributed much to the game. I was a new pilot though and I played a lot and I had lot of things I hadn't tried yet.
Trinity with its new graphics engine and new ships blew my balls off. Allthough trinity wasn't my favorite expansion I had the best time of my EVE time during trinity. I could already fly a wide variety of ships and had learned a lot.
Empyrean Age was a good expansion too. I think FW was implemented then (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and while I didn't try it until 2009, it was a good thing especially for newbie pilots.
Once Quantum Rise came with its certificate system and orca, I wasn't so happy about it. If I remember correctly CCP was struggling with FW lag (again, correct me if I'm wrong). Many players, including me, wondered why implement new things while there is so many other things to rebalance. However I was excited when I saw the fanfest videos, t3, wormholes etc.
Apocrypha hit. My balls were blown off again. This time I didn't care that much if old things weren't rebalanced, I was too busy exploring WH's. Skill queue made training my new alt much easier. Best expansion IMO.
Before I watched the Fanfest 2009 videos I really didn't know what to expect. First I was happy to hear the sov mechanic change, but after it was implemented it didn't change fleet stuff that much, in my perspective. IGB change was welcome. CCP struggled with the lag again. Besides sov mechanic, I wondered why not stop coming up with new things and fix some of the old. I think this is where I started to lose my loyality.
I knew PI was coming out in the next expansion, but after seeing the "excellence" -shi.. video, and hearing the words of CCP Hammerhead saying "were not done (with EVE)" in the fanfest videos multiple times I was thinking: "Surely CCP is going to revisit some of the old things in EVE. There's a huge list of them to be revisited." Some of the players felt the same way.
Tyrannis came and went. Lag was still there. PI was new and appeared to be a clickfest. CCP claimed they have other plans for the next 18 months, than to fix something old. Forum rage began.
Now Incursion is almost fully out. Am I happy? Not really. Once again we're getting new stuff, while still leaving half-assed features, ships, modules, rigs, subsystems and drones in the game. I fear without plex I wouldn't be playing anymore. I do love EVE, but not CCP.

Originally by: TimMc I would say I love CCP. Funny, interactive, free expansions and with vision.
Only bad thing is their GM department, but having harsh GMs with little interest/power to reimburse is just the price of serious business pvp.
I think the opposite. I do think they do a good job managing EVE overall, but they don't work nearly hard enough on fixing bugs and polishing new features. Supposedly they're trying to improve this so hopefully this will be a nonissue same time next year.
I have been very consistently impressed with the GM department. I've never really seen anything bad from 'em. Petitions that actually matter are processed very quickly (your ship exploding doesn't count) and I've found them consistently helpful and able to solve my problems. Haven't had a bad experience yet.

That article was a interresting read, but also fails to point out that lack of interraction with their community gives the devs a very narrow field of view on their own game, with the more often then not result in the game dieing/becomes uninterresting after a very short time. To evolve a game requires ideas or the game gets stuck in its current form, so to spend the time to dig for the realy good ideas is well worth it if the dev can filter them out. This especially applies on a subscription based game like eve where keeping the game interresting is key to keep the playerbase in addition to getting new ones. This is where eve stands out I must say. GJ CCP

Love CCP.
When (not IF) they will release a new game, I will buy it / pay the first month subscription without reading reviews or hesitation because I know it'll be a good, or even next to perfect product.
I feel they are the future of computer gaming for adults, they found a niche of people who want something different than WOW-like gaming.
With a bit of luck - WOD will be totally the best vampire game ever made and I will buy it the moment it comes out (hopefully in 2012), without waiting for anything said about it.

I have fallen in and out of love with Eve a few times, but I have always had the greatest respect for CCP and what they have accomplished.
Even if I have had a few "heated discussions" with them in the past I have never lost that faith in them as developers.
Do I <3 CCP?
Maybe not in the same way as I did BackInTheDayÖ, but probably still as much.
I miss the relationship between CCP and the players back then .. but I guess both sides were much smaller groups :)
I would like to make an additional point. CCP may be cool, but the community is pretty special too .. except those ones who owe me drinks.

3 things I don't like about ccp:
1. Inconsistent customer support 2. Deciding not releasing Dust 514 on PC (my most heated point so far) 3. The slowdown in new features/changes/improvements since Apocrypha
3 things I like about ccp:
1. Allowing a body like the Council of Interstellar Management to exist 2. The consistent stream of Dev Blogs 3. Their Recent dedication to the reduction of lag and fixing "under the hood" problems (however successful)
the last point (Lag reduction) has had mixed results as I understand it... From what I've heard, the technology simply needs a LOT of investment... 2000 people connecting to 1 node, with each person having multiple variables being communicated to the server in "real time" on such a huge scale, is an unbelievable technological feat, and I don't know if there's any game servers in the world which undergo this type of battering... and for ccp to attempt it? and not limit amount of people in systems/fleets... kudos -------

I can understand your first two points but I disagree with the third. I think there are too many new features and not enough work done on the older stuff, like a reworking of POS's (that old horse again), corp interface and roles and mining which is long overdue for a look into.
Edit: that's not to say I don't like the new stuff, but would it kill them to take a look into the rest of the game?
