Saw this in the Market forum, where someone inquired on a way to do market transactions via the Iphone. Someone recommended LogMeIn so I looked it up. It apparently has a free version so I wanted to see if anyone has used this for EVE? It's a way to remotely control another computer (theoretically one that is running EVE at home!!!!!!)
If so, how well does it work for those that have used it? Feedback? Pros, cons? Better alternatives? Is something like this allowed from CCP's perspective (I THINK it would be?)?

I have tried VNC and other remote viewer\control applications for PC's to see if I could remote control EVE on my games PC by my laptop across the internet. It's not viable at all. Trying to transmit every frame of a EVE client with its complex graphics requires a lot of bandwith.
I would like to be proven wrong on this. So I could use my olde laptop to remove view EVE on my games PC.

Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be allowed. I occasionally do this from work. There are probably better alternatives (VNC maybe, I've never tried using it to interact with a game), but logmein is probably the easiest to set up, with no network configuration required. It can obviously be slow, depending on your connection at both ends. Reducing both the colour depth and resolution helps. For market transactions, you don't really need colour at all. -

I did this with an Iphone 2g about a year ago. Used the free VNC, and also a paid version, I forget the name.
I was able to log into eve and mess about with the market/skillque.
I suspect a 3gs or better would give better performance with its bigger cpu over the 2g Iphone. Even so it was enough to do market shenanigans. ----------------------------------- They see me trollin... |

Installed Logmein the other day and it seems to work find from another computer, except it won't wake up the remote computer from standby mode. Is there an alternative program that does wake it up from standby?

Look into Wake On Lan Guide. By sending a special data packet to your PC across the internet you can turn it on. Then wait a bit then use your remote viewing application. You will also need to configure your internet router. I think your forward port 9. Here is a utillity to do wake on lan.
I have used Wake On Lan to turn on PC's in a remote office when I need to work on them.
