In short, when you buy a character, you have to give away your account name to the seller in order to complete the deal. This opens up doors for hackers. (Oh noes, now I told them how to do it, so now you have to implement it anyway! o.O)
If you could instead give a numerical code of like 30 digits much like the API-key, that would eliminate the "giving away of half your login credentials"-issue. |

They could in fact instead of the account name use the account number - e.g. the same number as the first part of your API key. That at least would be better then the name just like that.

I agree! CCP should either replace account name with API code, or generate a character sale token which the seller gives to the winning bidder, who then uses that token to transfer the character to its new account.

This. There's no reason for us to use the name on the account except to make it easy on the GMs moving the characters. I mean really they say never give out your account information! (Unless you are selling a char!)

Character sale token sounds like alot of work for a little thing. But yeah. Safety-wise, to be a 21st century MMO, you should expect some form of safe handling of character transfer.. A service you even pay extra for. |

There's a pretty simple solution. It's already available. Don't buy/sell a character if you don't like the risks.

+1 CCP take a lot of measures for player account security yet this one outright requires you to give your account name to someone else. And Toric, risks taken with in-game assets and information are resonable (and part of eve) but risking the security of your actual account...Alongside personal information (Your real name, your exact address, etc.) There is also listed your credit card details if you pay by that method. These are risks which are just unaceptable yet are seemingly required for legal character exchange. Personally I'd say the account ID option. So far as I know you can't identify the actual account name from that but it's still quick and doesn't require much effort on the part of either party.
