CCP Purple Tentacle understands the attachment we have to our current portraits and has set up a database allowing access to them even after the character creation update in Incursion 1.1.0. Read all about the Portrait Preservation Project in his latest dev blog.

Originally by: CCP Purple Tentacle I have spent considerable time playing with the new avatar creator and it is absolutely awesome. It is superior to the old one in every aspect
So we will be keeping Gallente facial tattoos?

Nice.
On an unrelated tangent (since I think CCP is more likely to be looking at this thread), whats the character count limit on the new forums?

Thank you very much for taking the time to preserve these. It sounds like it was a project you took on of your own accord for something that is just nice to do for us. I really appreciate it and I'm sure a lot of other people do too.
Thanks again!

Your clothing is basic and you don't have any necklace/mask/tattoos ...

Edited by: Aineko Macx on 17/01/2011 20:15:07 The existing "capture portrait" option is flawed in that it produces an overly cropped version of the portrait, unfortunately. The only way to get a full view and full res portrait capture is during character creation. So if you didn't think about print screening during that you're out of luck.
Still, a big hug for the person who put the effort into this preservation project.
EDIT: You went a bit too high with the jpg compression IMO. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Typo:
"How to use this server?
On this server you can only retrieve portraits and can do so only in one specific size: 256x256. If you know your characterID, you can directly hit http://oldportraits.eveonline.com/Characters/{your_character_id}_256.jpg and you will get your old portrait back, like this:"
Drop the "s" in "Characters" in the URL line and it works.

probably because its _512.jpg instead of _256.jpg but thought i would mention that anyway.
oh also, another way to get your char id if you dont desire to log into evegate for the moment, is to go and find the URL for your post history on these forums.
for example, mine is: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=bigshot&cid=731081081
my portrait being located at http://oldportraits.eveonline.com/Character/731081081_256.jpg

You also get a pretty good character picture by screenshotting the char selection screen, best done with biggest resolution you can use.

edit: Salvador is shown at http://oldportraits.eveonline.com/Character/3004513_256.jpg correctly, so someone made a typo on the old portrait's site
This is simply the same front page as is on the image server and that one can serve different resolutions. The old portrait server can only serve 256x256.

hopefully this indicates that the release version will include the rather superb theatrical lighting options of "the old one", as yet woefully absent on Sisi
To get a reasonably large high res pic without the cropping that occurs with 'Capture Portrait' in game, check the cache\pictures\Portraits folder (under local app data\CCP\EVE... in windows) after loading the login screen. The selected character's image in the cache folder depends on screen resolution, on a 1920 x 1080 24" monitor, the image is 764 x 764, & uncropped. Select each character in turn to get good images of all three.

Thank you,
I got home from an out of town trip with only 1 hour and 25 minutes to spare and made nice high res copies of my 12 charaters.. I never knew there was so much detail in the old pictures that I could never see in the thumb nails in game.
I might need to make a nice montage of them printed up 9 inch by 9 inch.
Your words were also very gracious about the sentimental value the pictures meant to us. I think you really touched on a key element of the pictures.. WE look at our own picture while we play a given charater.. other players picutres meant little to me,..........I knew them from their voices on ts and rarely saw their pictures... the expresions on my characters however had a significant impact on how I percieved them.
This chracter has a haughty and introspective look and I would take his persona even on these forums. A fatter character with a grin would feel different to me than a Dandy Caladari I had who' I'd think of a pansy not fit for more than having his nails don in a station (and he was a he lol)
I suppose as I'm being gracious I should be posting on another character lol thanks ... I should use Diomedes to gripe lol
