For those who knew him, our friend and comrade Poreuomai passed away yesterday following a long battle with cancer.
Poreuomai has been a valued part of our community for a long time and his passing brings us great sadness, he will be truly missed. For some time now he has kept a blog to keep his many friends informed of his progress and to share his experiences. It has been a privilege to be permitted to follow his progress like this and his outlook, courage and faith have been nothing less than inspirational. His blog can be found here.
Poreuomai was a keen and able role-player who over the years found great enjoyment in this aspect of the game and its community. He expressed a desire to me to see his character's story reach a conclusion, something I discussed with him several times in recent weeks. In the near future we shall be running an event in his memory to give as many as possible an opportunity to attend and celebrate our friends contribution to the community.
Please join me in wishing his family peace and pausing a moment to remember Zack. May we always remember him.
Ugleb.

Zack was a really nice guy and insanely brave in his long fight. An inspiration for all of us. He'll be greatly missed by all his corp and alliance mates.
As Ugleb said Poreuomai really enjoyed the RP side of the game and being with us in Ushra'Khan. He had great fun with the all-Matari fleet we ran with -A- in April and got the killing blow on a CVA TCU there :) When Zack attended an EVE meet in London early last year he met and got along well with the guys there, including some of our old ingame opponents from CVA.
Our thoughts are with his wife and family.
Fly safe pal.

Poreumai's courage was truly inspirational. He kept us up to date on his condition both in our forums and on the link in Ugleb's post and we all were rooting for him. In the end the cancer won but not without a hell of a fight.

I can only smile at the thought of having shared some time (even if it was virtual) with him. His dedication to life was something to behold.
Good bye friend.

I've been playing this game for so long, it feels like I have seen a dozen of these posts. Each one makes me think. They certainly help put my paltry problems into perspective. I've seen one such post start a war, and thought... if there is an afterlife, the fellow who passed away is probably getting a kick out of that. I never quite knew what to say in threads like these, or whether I should say anything, usually not knowing the person who passed on personally.

One of the things about getting older (59) ... is that you lose friends along the way. I've lost a number to cancer but others to strokes, motorcycles and house hold accidents. Mostly it was cancer though.
You miss them all and you miss them for the rest of your life.
You never forget their jokes and the laughter you shared with them ... the little quirks that made them who they were.
They were a living, breathing presence in your life ... and then they were gone.
But you will never forget them.
"Yeah ... I had this friend", you'll say and tell a story about them ... and pass on to others some part of what their life had been.
I didn't know him - but I can see he had a lot of friends.
I don't remember who it was ... but someone once said that the true worth of a man was measured in the number of his friends.
I'm sorry to hear of his loss.
May God Bless His Soul and Comfort His Family.

Many of us have been following Pores health story both on his blog and in our alliance/corp forums.
He was incredibly strong to deal with the pain of his cancer and always had a positive outlook to his life and his health.
After reading his blog last week and the sad news from his wife that he had passed away its hard find words to honour such a great guy and to convey how much we will miss him.
No more pain our dear friend, sleep well, fly free.

My sincere condolences.
No matter what side we fight on in-game, I am always thrilled to meet the players behind our avatars and am always saddened by their passing.
I have lost so...many...people to cancer in my life. It's a horrible thing to watch take hold and bring pain to them. The level of medication it takes to keep them comfortable often keeps them asleep or far from lucidity and death is their only release.
His suffering has ended and I truly, truly feel sorry for any family member who had to watch this cascade of pain unfold.
Today is my 44th birthday, and I was just going to sweep it under the rug as another one on the pile, but after reading this story, I am thankful to have it.
Fly safe, fly free, my comrade-in-games.
P.S. When you start the "Plex for Poreuomai" to benefit cancer research, I'm there. "To bring order to chaos, one must bring chaos to its knees."

After losing two of my family members in quick succession I spent some time thinking about the loss and how we treat death. As a result, I ended up writing a small piece for another site about losing someone and how it is dealt with by most. Some isn't quite applicable here, but some of it might be.
Quote: It has struck me that there's been a great loss across many western cultures. The loss of a loved one is becoming an event that's has a purely negative impact on our lives. The focus has shifted and we've lost perspective. Recently I've lost a few of my family's finest people and the impact on the family was tremendous. As a Paramedic and Soldier before it, I've become good at compartmentalization and stuffing away the stress and negative impacts of events for later perusal and handling.
This has enabled me to watch two separate and immense impact events with a cold and somewhat unbiased detachment.
These were dreary proceedings. Nothing but depression as far as the eye could see, with no end in sight. These were nothing but negative events in our lives. We all meet 'back home'. We share the grief. We go to church and sit through speeches none of us have even the slightest faith in. We carry the body to the graveyard, lower it into the ground and walk away carrying nothing but the grief and sorrow.
Would any of our loved ones want that? Would any of our loved ones desire such a fate for their families?
We have lost perspective. We have lost our focus.
We need to put the fun back into funerals.
For some unimaginable reason we have become so obsessed with that nanosecond of death that we forget the decades of life preceeding it. We mourn and grieve that one singular moment in time so much that we forget to celebrate and rejoice in the life that came before it. We deliver their bodies to the ground and we forget to leave the regrets, the sorrows, the grief and anger with it. That is what a burial is. Not an event where you are to increase your burdens. It's where you leave them all behind and keep only the joyful memories and the feelings that make your heart burst with joy as you think back.
A death is not the prelude to a time of sorrow. A death is the signal that heralds celebration.
When your loved one dies, you will grieve. You will mourn. You will show respect for the fact that a life ended... but then you will remember the life that preceeded the death. Process your loss and grieve all the way to the burial. Lower the casket holding the one you will never see again and instead of mourning that... you leave the mourning, the regret, the sorrow and grief behind under those six feet of dirt.
Then... then you celebrate. You gather all your family and loved ones and break out the cognac, the whiskey, the beer and honeyed mead. You gather around a table set for a feast and celebrate the life of the one you have lost. No grief. No sorrow. You tell the tales of joy, wonder and those hilarious moments that will set the entire room laughing with you. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not... that would be the greatest testament to the loved one's life that you could ever provide. Their own loved ones celebrating and rejoicing their life. The impacts they've had on their family. All those little things that made them great.
Let go of grief. Let go of sorrow and regret.
Remember the joys of the life. Not that one regrettable instant of death.
I never knew Pireuomai, but I look out upon the dozens of men and women struck by his passing and see something truly remarkable. A man who has reached out and truly touched so many with his ways and his personality. His actions and words. I can't console him or do anything for him, but I can extend my heart and thoughts towards you and his family. Remember his life and the things he's done to become such a grave loss when he left, not the loss itself. Honor him and all that he has done by celebrating him.
Pour yourself a drink and raise it to the skies. "Fly free."

To the people who just tried disrupting things in Pator - you're a disgrace.

To call them people is an insult to humans. I pray they die as alone and unloved as they deserve.
Rest peacefully, Brother, you are missed.

Condolences and prayers. I lose friends this way, and still have their stuff they insisted I take.
(as for the situation regarding the griefers, didn't something like that happen in WOW some years back and the guild responsible for it was KOS through that server?)

I never knew him, but I wish that I had. o7
As for the incident and those involved, well sadly you get those types everywhere they are pretty irrelevant and they know it.

You will be remembered, Rest in peace fellow traveller....
For all of you that attended the ceremony I would like a big big favour. I would like a confirmation that all the people involved in the incident in Pator are listed in this report:

He was good Peeps, and had one awesome outlook on his life. His strength was a true inspiration to me. My life was made better by his ability to handle a very tough situation.

I only read about this today. I am truly sorry about his loss, both to his family and friends and to the eve community.
Rest in peace, Zack, and may your spirit fly as freely in the beyond as it does in the community.

We all came from stars and when we die we should do so knowing that our very atoms will one day return to those beautiful fires in the sky and may one day bring life to another place. We are just star dust in the great cycle of life and death that has lasted billions of years and will continue for trillions more.
We are both fragile but also immortal, I take comfort in that, and I hope his friends can too.
