+1 Although i quite like mine and wont be changing it, its always good to have the option i suppose. There are too many chars that look too much alike and in some cases identical, there desperatly needs to be more diversity.
Btw ccp the char creator started fine for me then as it went along it started to lag slideshow like.

Thinking about it further, character portrait swaps should now be free and automated permanently. The reason being we're already gonna get dinged for tattoos and new clothes and accessories and god knows what other microtransactions await us in Incarna. If CCP wants us to buy all that stuff, they ought to be tempting us with the ability to show it off in our portraits.

Had to petition yesterday already because the server rendered images are so buggy. Of course no response yet, so just automate it. --

As I understand it, we're supposed to petition for a portrait swap if we're not happy with the current pic. Of course, who knows how long it will take for the petition to get any attention.

Originally by: CCP Caedmon As Bella Bee already confirmed there will be a grace period of around one month. The end-date will be announced when we know it and with enough notice for players to react. During the grace period players will be able to log into the game without having to go through the new character creator. As Bella Bee also pointed out, for those of you with alts whose appearance doesn't matter to you, there is the randomize option to allow you to speed through the process.
On the topic of more options, we really wanted to have tattoos out in this release but for various reasons we had to postpone them. Work is now underway to get tattoos as well as scars, piercings and more glasses in the game. In the next release we plan to introduce the option to re-customize your character from within the game to take advantage of all the new options. Expect to see more and more options coming in future releases. We have a lot of things we would love to see and we will be using feedback from this and other threads to help us make decisions on what we put in and when.
Maybe it's not so bad after all?

I must admit to being a bit vexed by the canned response this thread got a few pages back.
They seem to implying that they are more willing to sort through thousands and thousands of petitions rather than providing a one shot solution to the problem that would make everyone happy.
This is not a dumb community. I may be wrong but I don't recall seing threadnaughts like this one regarding the recent changes in skill allocation and the free neural remap. It was generally understood that it was a one shot deal, and while I'm sure they got their fair share of pettions I suspect it was nowhere near what's going on here.
The way the sticky is worded is a bit insulting actually. It implies on the one hand that anyone that goes through the effort of filing a petition will be granted a re-do, provided they aren't filing for all of their characters over multiple accounts.
Fair enough.
Yet on the other hand they throw in language that make those of us on the fence about how our characters came out feel guilty about wasting their time, when it is quite clear that they share in the blame for this misunderstanding due to poor UI design, inadequate documentation and ambiguous wording in the dev blog regarding our ability to "tweak" our characters. Here in America we understand "tweak" to mean modify/ adjust....not "practice".
In looking around at some of people's creations I have to say on the whole this was a fantastic idea. I have thought for a long time that too many of the characters in Eve looked like virtual clones. In looking around at most of the responses I would say most people feel the same way.
Why then would they taint the entire experience by making the customer base jump through hoops to get the end result they really wanted?
Worse, why would they insist on a solution that only makes more work for both the customers and the developers?
I really don't get that.

Well, hopefully, their petition queue is now swamped with roughly 50,000 "omgz, change my picture" petitions, which will make them understand that this is not a viable solution to the problem and that they need to step up and prioritise (and release early) some kind of functionality that lets us go back, in-game, and adjust our looksà
Fallout asked us kindly not to abuse this option, but I have a distinct feeling that it's to late for that, and, quite frankly, that this abuse will be a good thing because it makes them directly feel how bad a design decision it was to have a one-shot/no-warnings/live-with-it-forever editor. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Edited by: HeIIfire11 on 19/01/2011 13:33:41 I think one of the main problems is that the 4 snapshots you can take are too small. You really cant see what the eyes are doing or if the character is looking strange.
That and that he moves while taking the picture at all.Whats the point in being able to move the eyes to where you want them to look when they move?
And although it shows almost as small in game it shows bigger in the forum and you see the flop.
If not for this I'd say tough **** for the people asking do have them redone.Sure you have a lot of time and what not but because of these few reasons I can understand how a unwanted pic can happen. So for what its worth I'll give this a thumbs up.

Hi,
signed for a global portrait reset for all who want to take this opportunity.
sadly, the new char creator is basically cool, but the documentation was pretty much zero.. play around with snapshots, you think youre happy.. press save.. oops... no way back... :(
i messed up my main this way... practised with 2 alts and got slowly familiar with the creator, but still... if i had the chance i'd reset all of them and start from scratch with the "little" practise i got now - really.
remember.. not all of us are regular sisi users who had a nice time trying the creator over and over again... and some "features" of the creator werent obvious at first, either.. like changing certain aspects differently from different view angles.
well.. anyway.. sign me up for a char reset if youre handing out some ;) otherwise at least create a way people can modify their avatars slightly easier and hopefully cheaper than in the past - even if its just once every 6 months or so. THINK ABOUT THIS OPTION...

Please refer to this thread for more information on the "grace period" for the new character creator and what to do if you are not happy with your portrait.
Yes, of course. But you'd make your poor client support guys' life easier (and that of your clients) if you just allowed everyone to re-roll at will, at least for the "grace period".
Yes, advantage can be taken. But to what end?

This was a good 1st attempt. Fell short of the mark, though. Needs more options for color, clothes, hair styles...etc
May have been rushed out.
At least give us the option for do-overs for a limited time, or free change codes to apply.
Tks
