Hi How can I work out what the best distance is for my weapon turrets? I know guns have an 'accuracy falloff' under the show info tab, but what about modifiers from skills that increase optimal distances etc? are these factored in or must i do the calculation myself?
thanks

EFT is great for tweaking ranges/optimals/falloffs of turret and ammo combos etc. I recommend that as a start point when putting together your fitments! Obviously you can also import your character via the API and the figures will be fine tuned for that particular skill set.

When showing info on a fitted module you see the effective attribute stats modified by skills and other factors.

Best distance is where you can hit him better than he can hit you. Stay within optimal or within optimal + 1*falloff range. Up to optimal range you have no range penalties. Beyond optimal + 1*falloff your range penalities become greater than 50% (on top of tracking penalties). Different ammo has an effect on your effective optimal range (show info on gun in space). EFT is your friend.
So for example if you're flying autocannon minmatar vs blaster gallente stay between your optimal and optimal + 1*falloff. You will still be able to hit him and he can't hit you at all. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

To find your turret's attributes: - Fit your ship, and load your guns - If you are using tracking computers or other active modules undock and activate those modules - Right-click on the turret - Choose 'Show Info' - The displayed attributes will include all modifiers
To ensure decent damage, make sure that your range is less than optimal + 1/2 falloff and that your effective angular velocity is less than 1/2 of your turret's tracking attribute. For excellent damage, make sure than range is less than optimal and effective angular velocity is less than 1/3 of your turret's tracking.
Your effective angular velocity is dependant on the signature radius of your target compared to the signature resolution of your guns. The smaller the target the faster it appears to be moving as far as tracking goes. General guidline is that there is a 10x difference between battleship and friate, and a 3x difference between a cruiser and a frigate or battleship.
