I also am unable to get the character creator working - I tried everything i could find mentioned in the blogs and still no luck - my computer is fairly new and has no trouble running Eve itself - even at high shader settings, medium LOD, etc... - but the character creator just gets stuck and doesn't load - is it true that after a certain time we wont be able to log into Eve at all if we haven't done our character? - If that's the case I might as well just not bother paying for this next months subscription...a bit disappointing really...

What about changing bloodlines or race? Why can't we just start all over?
I offer 2 plex? ________________* - If you're in favour of a bloodline change please vote in the Assembly Hall in this thread - |

In this image, you're still missing a critical problem that makes the creation process needlessly obtuse.
That snapshot in the dialogue box needs to be much larger. Why not use the full-res local render that the camera creates? It already exists, and we can already get at it by skipping out of the client, so why not use it? Why use a far too small snapshot that doesn't tell you what the result actually looks like?
If that means blowing the dialogue up over half of people's screens, so be it. That's infinitely better than giving them a tiny, featureless, detail-less, lossy-reduced image¦ (and the render is only 512+512px, so you'd have to be on a veeeeery tiny screen to have it become too large to show).
¦ The reason I describe it as such is because I have a gut feeling that the snapshot used in that image is the full-res image, scaled down to become a thumbnail, which would mean you're actually doing more work for far less usability and effectiveness.
At first, I was annoyed as well, by the snapshot showing so small... After a while, I realized that it actually makes sense to some degree, cause what will be visible in-game, is mostly an even tinier rendition.
Look at the many in-game images, where you can't even tell there's a face in there, cause of the background or any number of other reasons.
What works at 512^ pixels can completely fall apart in a small low-rez version. So this "feature" of a very small preview might actually help some people make better portraits for themselves. ... _____________________________________ I'm Paper; Rock's fine, nerf Scissors |

Yes, agree very much:
1) given the fact that many of us chose a certain race, cause the old attribute-point presets made the race we wanted a bad choice for skill training.
2) fixed attribute presets have been removed, and any new player can choose their favorite race freely. But us old, loyal CCP customers are still stuck with characters that don't/can't look the way we'd choose, and aren't part of the race we want to be.
3) needlessly, certain clothing options that aren't really race related are not available to all races, like those really cool looking black pants, that are only available on a minmatar alt I never used or trained (because the attribute distribution was sucky).

I miss my old portrait!
This portrait looks like an action figure that is just out of the box!
I guess the old dark and rusty Blade Runner inspiration is lost in translation somewhere! +_÷

Edited by: BeanBagKing on 28/02/2011 03:21:20 So on Jan 19th there was this dev blog,
Quote: We currently plan for the grace period to last for about a month from the initial deployment.
and a quote by CCP Fallout...
Quote: The month long grace period we advertised refers to the period during which you can log into the game without a character portrait.
It's now Feb 27th. Now, they never specified that it would be exactly a month, no more, and then they were cutting everyone off! But they did say there would be plenty of warning. I'm more concerned with this last part. Either A) They just forgot about the grace period and are going to let things keep going like this for a long time or B) they just forgot about the grace period and are going to suddenly remember and cut off the grace period with no warning.
Personally I'm tired of my lazy corp mates logging in with no picture :P *nudge nudge CCP* what's going on here?

Some of us who have not done our character portrait are not "lazy" - we haven't done the portrait because the new character creator doesn't work on our computers - I for one am not going to go out and purchase an expensive new machine just because CCP's new gimmick doesn't work on the perfectly good machine I already have - i just finished a level 4 mission and earned over 45 million from it while running the graphics at full shaders and good LOD - my computer is barely 2 years old and runs EVE itself just beautifully. So to put it simply, the day CCP "remembers" its cut off date will likely be my last day in EVE.
What I would like CCP to do is have a button on log in for all of us (and there are many) who cant get the character creator to work that gives us the option of "accept random character" and have it just give us some default avi so we can keep playing without dealing with the character creator and getting getting locked out of the game that some of us have paid for 6 months in advance.
