Has any one else noticed this?
I can make a new character and the lighting is bright and they look youngish around 25 or so. I make them... you can then look at them in eve and they look just like you made them. But about 4-8 hours later the lighting is just... dark. And they look like they aged 20 years.
Mine is an example. It looked like 30ish and the back ground was light when I make him and now I am sitting in shadow and have wrinkles on my forhead and look like I'm 50.
What is up CCP?

the lighting is pretty fubar'd between the full view and the thumbnail
imo though you see the discrepancy as soon as you save the thumbnail in the character creator ________________

I dunno. I always set the light intensity pretty high, and I seem to have avoided this problem.

Fitz, I didnt encounter what you mention specifically, but when I was at the final stages I would position my chars eyes and in main they would be looking straight back at me, but the snap at the side would always show her eyes looking to the left of me. Im sure the creator isnt perfect yet, or maybe im cross-eyed. |

Actually I looked at both and they looked fine when I made them. It was after a bit (I'm not sure how long after.. it could have been even 5 minutes) it turned into what you see now. But right after I joined the game I looked at it and it looked like I had made it in the character creator. I didn't notice it went dark and old till hours later.
So yes there is something lacking in this program for sure.

This was my 2nd attempted.
I put key (back) lighting on her but didn't make the light more intense. It still went way dark and aged her about 10 years.
Word to the wise people. Make you light far brighter then you think it should. And I do hope they allow us to remake these.

I think the thumbnails are at some lower quality? That being said, the larger views of the avatars seem to be okay.

Yours seems to be fine... as your face is not in shadow at all.
I think the key is getting the other side lite up almost as bright as the main lighted side.

Edited by: Tippia on 20/01/2011 07:36:28 It's because what you first see is a local render made with the standard rendering techniques of your gfx card. This is later replaced by a server-side render that uses different techniques, most notably when it comes to the lighting and how shadows are rendered.
The latter renders stuff in much more detail than your local render (and a lot more than your live view) can produce, so you'll notice things ù wrinkles, shadows and shadings ù that didn't appear before because they'd be too processing-intense to calculate. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Edited by: DarkAegix on 20/01/2011 07:35:44 By default the character creation quality is medium, and when you click save CCP render it at the highest quality. Has anyone here set the new graphical settings to max prior to creating the character? I did, and I don't notice any unexpected changes :)

This.. light intensity on MAX for all of my avatars pictures. And then a light setup (the small grey numbers in the lower left corner of the light option) to use strong highlights.
Oh, and a background that isn't close to the coloring of the chars hair/skin-tone and gives a bit of contrast is a wise choice.

Edited by: Whitehound on 20/01/2011 09:34:32 Where do the forum avatars get rendered? I think that this happens on an EVE server and not your PC. Should you be using any sort of colour profile or just gamma correction with your graphics card/driver then perhaps try to turn it off. It may have an influence on your 3D rendering. --

Image to the left is locally rendered, with some graphics settings turned off. To the right is picture from EVE gate. Lighting made character much older.
As said before, be sure to turn on max graphics settings, and pray your hardware supports all features used.

And they look like they aged 20 years.
What I have seen during character creation, and what I still see at character selection screen:

But after I enter the game, my character looks like an old hag:
https://image.eveonline.com/Character/931237409_512.jpg
It is probably because I had to use low quality shaders. (My computer crashes at high quality settings.) Do I have any other choice than recreate my character using another computer? I would be happy with the low quality portrait.

But yes, from the examples I can see that things aren't always rendered correctly!
