I have done a little searching (not much mind) to see if this has come up before but does anyone think the white text on black background that many of the Eve Online webpages use is a little intense.
I have resorted to copying the text into a notepad to prevent my eyes from bleeding out my skull.
I have heard there is a new forum in the works, will this be one of the issues addressed.
Please CCP. Hear me moan!!!

I hope then that CCP have eye insurance.
Or perhaps they will do a Plex for laser corrective surgery scheme.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven that white text on black background is the least eye straining color combination possible.

Fixed. & Perhaps my eyes are not used to it then.
CCP. Change this now because I say so. I am like a big deal, don't know if you know.

I find white text on black much less strainfull on the eyes. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

I actually find very light blue on very dark gray the easiest to read without eyestrain on a monitor. But I ceased minding just about any other "regular" color scheme. Also, it helps a lot if the ROOM you're in while reading is properly illuminated.

Of course, you can just create your own "user" CSSs if you like, and you just click on the author//user mode button to toggle between original and your way.

I'd much prefer red text on a blue background, tbh. It causes the least amount of strain on your eyes when compared to other text combinations, such as white-on-black. It's what I prefer.
CCP can't do anything right. Also, it's quite obvious, that at this point in time you're sitting here reading my signature. |

As a matter of fact neither black on white or white on black is the easiest to read for most people. It's better to tone down one or the other just slightly to reduce the contrast, this counter- intuitively makes things easier to read. Dyslexics in particular have problems due to the contrast of black/white or white/black. (I'm talking about something like ffffff/0f0f0f or 000000/f0f0f0)

Edited by: Marchocias on 21/01/2011 20:00:03 I work as a developer, and always have to reconfigure visual studio to use (mostly) white on a black background, as it is less eye straining (in the case of a computer monitor).
I've tried to explain to my collegues that:
with black on white, you are trying to focus on a dim part of the screen while everything around it is backlit at full brightness, so a lot of light is entering your eye and none of it is from the actual thing you're trying to look at, whereas
with white on black, the only light you see is from the actual object you're viewing, and there is a reduction in the straining effect of a screen which is more brightly lit than its surroundings because the screen is darker overall.
Obviously, in the case of printed paper, black on white is better, as the paper isn't back lit.

Also this...
I actually use very slightly off-white, on an almost black navy-blue.
By the way... does anyone else here modify the windows command prompt look? I like: 0,255,0 Text 0,64,0 Background and 10 pt Lucida Console (Makes it look a bit like an old green monochrome screen running some terrible old version of dos) ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

I think it probably depends on the person. I find white text on a black background extremely difficult to read on a computer screen. I find that the letters burn into my retina and I can still see them when I move down a couple of lines, making the entire page blur, go out of focus and generally cause issues with my sight.
I find white on a blue-ey-grey easier to read.

I do a lot of computer programming in my line of work, and I find that setting up emacs with a dark grey/green colour (it's called dark slate grey in the program, but it looks more green to me due to a slight colour blindness) and a light yellow (wheat) font is very relaxing on the eyes.
