Doesnt it seem a little bit silly that a technology (in sense) sense the 1920's(30s) dont exist in eve. EG Radar, Sonar, automatically sending waves constantly, yet our spaceships dont have the technology to auto scan every <X> Amount of seconds?
Shouldn't there at least be an OPTION, i can understand sometimes auto d-scan wouldn't be good, but in almost all cases it would, and would benefit everybody.
Thoughts? -------

Regarding the need to D-Scan every system to find other players, have you considered creating a new class of module that will basically automate D-scanning?
I imagine that CCP Atlas would probably have me hung, drawn and quartered if I tried to implement something like that The directional scanner does not make the server particularly happy as it is.

Actually a very good idea in my opinion if you implement it like this: Make the scanner ONLY activate every x amount of seconds AND use capacitor!
In order to stay safe, you must commit capacitor energy. Also the times available should be every 10, 30, 60 secs. Clicking scan should use up something like 5 - 10% of your capacitor per use.
I need less than 10 secs (combat probes showing on your overview) to scan people down in battlecruisers in some cases; active tanks should suffer to stay relatively safe.

And if I were to come up with some crap reason that buffer tanks were cut by 1/3 when it used the D-Scan, you'd have a problem with that I assume.
Active tanks are only used by mission runners that could not survive PVP without extreme luck or failitude on the part of the ganker. You just want easier kills.
I understand that the current implementation of D-scan makes the server unhappy, but that just seems a reason to me to come up with a different better system that actually realistically serves the purpose and at the same time does not exaust the server hamsters, not simply ignore the problem.
It's idiotic for the d-scan to work the way it does now.

That is assuming D-scan being active is mandatory. It is not. I use it most often as the number of people increases in system.
