Edited by: Karma on 27/01/2011 23:29:36 Tenchi Muyo OVA 1, 2 and Ryou-Ohki is always good. Heroic Age. Sci-fi with lots of space-battles. and If you want good and lighthearted movies (sort of the disney of anime) you might want to try pretty much anything by Studio Ghibli (Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind). Munto. Awesomeness. Bakemonogatari (pure sexy weirdness) Kara no Kyoukai (not for the faint of heart) Onegai Teacher (love-story, comedy, sci-fi) Stellvia of the Universe. Scryed. Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko. Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works might be worth checking out too. after you've seen it, you can play the games too for even more awesome. ;)
I've left out the drama- and slice-of-life-series...
PS: failing at read-comprehension ... some of these prolly wont be on netflix. (especially unlimited blade works... or the ghibli stuff.. but the latter is very easy to find regardless).

Originally by: Roxanna Kell I want to start watching animes too. I want something based in space, and also land. but with no aliens in it. at least no humanoid aliens, as they suck imo. except the mumbari in Babylon 5, as they had good explnation to why.
Anyawys, soemthing like firefly but anime would be nice.
Cowboy Bebop. comes immediately to mind. and then I thought a bit about Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED destiny. a bit long, and a bit emo at times, perhaps.
oh yeah.. Mars daybreak was also kind of nice.
and you can never go wrong with some Zone of the Enders.. space, land, no aliens. giant mecha though.

Originally by: Corcyrus Endymion I don't think I can recommend Juuni Kokki. Not because the anime itself isn't any good ( it is ), but because the anime just stops at a random place in the story! It's even worse at that than Rurouni kenshi and D.grayman.
yeah... you know why? Youko isn't the main character in the rest of the story... they tried for two-three story-arcs to keep her as the main lead, by having others tell the rest of the stories to her... but that stopped being viable when the story goes back to earth... so they stopped making the anime. Stupid thing is, most fans seem to like Yuka more than Youko. she's a richer character.
Just as stupid as the American company that edited Card Captor Sakura to make Syaoran the main character because they didn't think the west was ready for a girl to be the hero :P
Think they did the same with Escaflowne too, turned Van into the hero... for the same reason.
either way, the Juuni Kokki books are available properly translated... I'm only missing Book 2 myself.
PS Oh right, Card Captor Sakura and Escaflowne should probably be on the list of awesome animes too.
