So i tricked this guy who use the "buy my items at 135mill i buy back at 150mill" marketscam (but then when you bought the overpriced item he cancel the transaction. I got these 9 tags from 30 jumps away, and when i go into the jita station and sell those tags for a nice price of 150mill each, i got the message:
"03:48:40 Info Broker found no match for your order. Others might have been before you, or your quotes might be outdated."
However my wallet startet blinkin, so i guess its some kind of BOT he used that cancled the order in the right milisecond before his isk was taken from the wallet? O.o i recorded it and can be watche on xfire (just like a youtube site) here: Linkage - Bot or what?
Now there even 15min after, his orders are sitll up (selling orders) as u can see on the pic below: Linkage - Picture of sell orders still up, so i guess he isn't active but still writes in local ^^
can anyone explain how i didnt get the sells, its like impossible that another sold them to him cus its like 0,2 sec from when i press "sell" and get the offer to i sell them :p
thx

He did it by having a high level in the Market Trading skill. When you try to fill the order, it attempts to take money from his wallet (which fails because it's empty) then cancels the order.

You cant trick them, they use game mechanics to scam ya. They have Margin Trading. For that they dont have to pay the full amount of isk in escrow. If their wallet is empty and they cant pay you for their buyorders, the buyorders can not be filled. Seen alot of those lately like ammo, buyorder 5.200.000 units for 500 each min amount 5.200.000 Then they have put up 4.000.000 for 350 each and some more. no matter where you get the ammo from, the buyorder can never be filled as the char buying em doesnt have isk to cover the total cost. If it looks like too good to be true, it prolly is.

Nice one you fool, now he has to set up his orders again. You had better not do it again (and again) as that would be griefing. ~~~

Letting players borrow money from the system is always a bad idea. CCP failed when creating that particular skill but they can't take it back now.

They could change how the skill functions, and fix this very easily. (Or just have a button next to each order saying "confirm order" and see if the order would fail)

No, but they can fix it very easily.
Every time an order fails this way, you lose a level of the trained skill.
This is already done with T3 ship skills, so it isn't breaking new ground or anything.
It won't stop it, but it will damned sure slow it down a bit, and add a little risk to the risk/reward equation.

And this is how you exploit the Margin Trade scam 1. Seller puts up tags for 50 million 2. Buy order for 75 million, very obvious that its a margin trade scam 3. You have the same item, even cheaper that you bought for 1 million. You sell for 45 million in same region. 4. ??? 5. PROFIT!!!! Either someone else buys your cheaper tags resulting with you ending up getting the isk while the scammer does the leg work or you completely ruined the scammers day because they will have to change up their scam, find a new item and loose out on market taxes.

Edited by: Chinwe Rhei on 25/02/2011 17:28:19 It's pretty dumb, not having the money to cover up your Margin Trading should put you into negative isk with all it's consequences. It's not an exploit, but it should be changed before it becomes more widespread and people start doing it with things that are not so obviously overpriced.
Scams that rely on people making mistakes are fine. This is just about guesses and hunches and the market screen lying to you.

That would work. They also *can* remove the skill as they already implemented that a while back for the learning skills.

Or they could leave the skill as is, since it works perfectly and is very useful to legitimate traders.

Then people just make alts and biomass them after putting them billions in debt and no one is the wiser, while the seller gets all kinds of free isk. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

There are some serious L2P-issues in this thread.
This is Eve. The knowledge you need to succeed in this game is what makes it good. What would be the point of winning if there was no chance of loss and failure?
I'd recommend Star trek online if you want a newbie friendly game.
