So ccp has effectively killed PI. After the recent patch, ccp decided to let our extractors drain planetary resources. Ok that is fine and dandy, however can anyone tell me why after setting an extraction process for 1 day 15 minutes produces dimished returns on massive scales?
Day 1. On my water planet, I got 10k water. Great better than before. Day 2. 360 water.
You notice a slight difference there? CCP can you care to explain how I can completely drain a planet made of water of its resources in a few hundred kilo radius?
Then can you explain to me why after waiting a WEEK to reset my extractors after that, I still would have seen the same low low numbers on that planet?

It is simple. CCP wants you to move your extraction setup, thereby incurring a slight ISK sink in PI, as you move your setup and build on another hotspot. A stealth nerf. SHHHH! Don't tell anybody.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. It is soo annoying how quickly planets change hotspots and as the person above me said, it does include isk which just isnt fair. If the planet should deplete, it should happen over a longer time period, perhaps weekly, not hourly!

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of this diminishing resource thing. I'm down with ECU's, but I reckon CCP should remove this diminishing factor, or cut that factor down significantly.
If they wanted to add an isk sink to my PI zen, they should up the customs costs at the customs office. 30% of the isk value exported doesn't sound that bad compared with having to sit there moving stuff around....
I don't see POS based mining laser modules having to be moved every other day to keep the extraction levels of techmoons constant.
For that matter, I don't even see moon mining depleting resources.
Its not like a miner has to buy a new ship each time he depletes a roid.....

Edited by: Panty Stocking on 30/01/2011 18:48:03 Today will be the third day in a row i have to tear a PI base down to the CC, and relocate halfway across the planet, just to support a 2 day cycle feeding 6 basic factories. the resource im extracting has about a 70% white bar on the scan report, and the heads reported an average of 266 per head. which dropped by 4 in 10 minutes. the yeild dropped from 48k/hr to less than 25k in a single 2 day cycle.
But hey, as long as the macros can't take advantage of a system that was designed to be mostly hands off and work in the absence of a characters presence online.
Congrats on punishing everyone, pi is now the biggest waste of time in eve. Good thing those poor macros always have highsec ice mining to support them.

I've been doing PI for several days now in 0.0 and I have no idea what you're talking about From what I understand, the concentration of resources (heat map) changes/shifts/moves ?
I haven't noticed this on my planets, my extractor heads are still sitting on the high-density areas I've placed them on days ago ---- <sig goes here> |

Day 3. Running out of water, crap, haven't showered today, afraid I might use it all up Day 4. Started rationing the water, don't know when I'll see another refill of the underground supplies again ~ Day 15. So... thirsty... can only afford to drink about 100ml a day. Initial supply got bacterial infection. No way to boil or purify old stock. Might need to try and move to another area to find a fresh source. ---

I haven't really noticed this on my planets either. My guess is that lowsec/0.0 planets regain lost materials faster than hisec, to the point that it's not all that noticeable except in hisec.

Sounds to me like you are most likely using long ass cycles that allow you to regenerate your precious hot spots faster than you deplete them. |

I've had some shifting areas as well. Nothing tremendous as I haven't had to move ECU's yet. I run a 2day pattern with one CC lvl 4 and two CC lvl 3 characters. I'm not pulling a large amount of resources and it doesn't bother me that the hot spots are shifting. The current system is much better then having to click through all of the extractors. I should mention I jus do PI as an extra to the game, it's not something I focus on as it's seems to dull to be a main attraction.
